SYD/MEL/BRIS to Los Angeles Flying Air New Zealand in Business Class from $1111.74 Return @ IWTF

2250

Edit 7:50am** - Fares are all gone. Well done to all those that managed to get on board while it was live! Hopefully everyone get's their eticket and has a great trip! Hopefully won't be reading any horror stories in the forum.

Edit** 6:30am - Still heaps of tickets around the $1212 mark and some at the original price. Dates are becoming scarce though! I'm off to bed now. Mods can you please mark as expired once ALL fares have dried up?. Good luck all!!

Edit** 6am - They are slowly being gobbled up. Prices are slowly increasing but still some great bargains to be had.

Doubt these amazing fares will last long so get in quick!!!

Seems to be heaps of available dates spread out over next year.

These fares also can also be had at Expedia for a similar price, however I like supporting IWTF due to him being an active OzB member. Expedia @ $1118 (plus 0.70% cashback via cashrewards) https://imgur.com/a/N4dC8

There might still be a few random tickets left - however looks like only single tickets? Also, seems to be only available through au.myholidays - hope these guys come through.

I booked two tickets about 2min ago - individually through myholidays using two browsers - Dates: 12th July (Melb) return: 26th July. Hope the ticket comes through!

    • +1

We can have a celebratory drink on the flight together if they do come through. But sadly I hold little hope.

    • +1

Yea, me too. About an hour ago. Read horrible reviews on them after booking though. Hope it comes through!

      • They still haven't issued my ticket yet, but they are spamming me with emails. Already received two in the past 15 minutes. I'm pretty confident that it's not going to go through.

        • Same. I hope the refund process wont be a pain, which I also doubt. They do not have an Australian Hotline FML

        • Yeah same, getting nervous now.

        • +1

          I emailed them. Their response:

"Your booking is under review. We are working on it will update you soon regards this booking."

Better than nothing. At least they're alive and doing something.

        • @seanneko:

Thanks for the update. Just sent them an email as well. They also seem to have an oz number, check the email booking confirmation. Seems they operate on Helsinki time??

        • Sent them an e-mail too but just got an automated response.

  • OMG this is insane. Why is it so cheap in Z class??? Wish i had woken up earlier…

Do they often have these prices for Z class?

    • No. Never seen a Z or J or C price this cheap from Australia to LAX. Pricing error maybe that has already been ticketed for many and hopefully which will be honored.

  • +9

    Woke up just now!
OP: congrats for posting the bargain of the year
Ozbargainers who got the deal: I envy you so much haha but great stuff

  • +4

Damn. I had woken up around this time to pee but instead of checking OzBargain after peeing, I decided sleep was the better option. That will teach me for not checking OzB at every opportunity!

    • +1

I know the feels. 2hrs of extra sleep costed me the trip of a lifetime

  • +11

Just had a call from a myholidays agent asking if I knew why they had received so many bookings for Melb/syd to LAX. Hahahah.
I'll see if the etickets arrive. Still not expecting it.

    • May I ask what number you called?

      • No, they called me from Qatar.

    • How did the call finish? Yep, haven't got my etix yet

      • +4

It finished with me saying please issue the etickets asap, and him saying it may take a while due to the number of tickets they had to process.

        • +1

Certainly taking their time. I don't even really care if they do cancel it - it was an impulse purchase. I just want to know either way.

    • Waiting on two tickets, sent an email and no luck with their call center (keeps saying call back 9am - 12am). Not looking good atm

      • +2

I've stopped waiting, suggest you do the same. ;)

    • Just got through to their call center and not confirmed apprently. She offered full refund for both bookings luckily, so awaiting emaik confirmation. Unfortunate but good luck those who got the tickets!

      • +1

        Unlucky mate.

Need to get a list of those OTA's that issue eticket immediately (like Expedia) so if something like this pops up again, everyone can share in the spoils.

        • +1

Absolutely. Good work on posting the best deal ive seen so far!

  • +1

    Damn what a price!
    Thats all i can say

  • Whoa- I hope I see more of this

  • Wow, missed out but that's a spectacular deal. I booked the RTW Virgin Business a few months back, leaving in 2 weeks but this is just as good.

  • +4

I initially thought $250 Shomonk QC35 was the deal of the year, but this is the clear winner.

  • +2

Good luck to all! Hopefully they honour it!.

Congrats to OP for the amazing deal, I always see IWTF advertised with these type of specials. I wonder, how do people find these deals? Is it a matter of trial and error on websites such as IWTF? Or is it a case of finds through forums and using IWTF as the 'middle man' so to speak?

    • +2

It was posted originally on FlyerTalk then spread from there to OMATT, AFF, and here OZB. IWTF just compares the flight you are looking for with different websites to get the best price.

      • Thank you for that information! Mind I asking, what website is OMATT and AFF? I'm at work, and tried to quickly google OMATT and OMATT forum, but didn't have any luck with first few results. Urban dictionary has an interesting definition on OMATT though lol.

        • +2

One mile at a time OMAAT not OMATT
          australian frequent flyer AFF

        • @jayel: Thanks heaps for the info from yourself and spizz!

        • +1

          @jayel:

Opps correct. OMAAT. Though usually the Premium Fare Deals subforum over on FlyerTalk is where a lot of deals are usually first mentioned.

        • +1

          @Spizz:

Good to know, I always avoid Flyertalk due to the poor website layout. will have another look.

          edit:
actually i'm not sure where i got the aversion to flyertalk - its fine.
just set up a google alert for that sub-forum
"mel" or "syd" or "bris" or "akl" site:https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/premium-fare-deals-740/
so hopefully I won't miss the next rare error fare out of australia.

        • @Spizz:
@jayel: I Didn't know (but doesn't surprise me) that I could set up google alerts for this, might have to check it out!
Thanks for all the information from both of you so far =)

I'm heading to Hong Kong for 1 year next year and am definitely on the look out for cheap travels around asia and into europe (with semi decent airlines). Would the websites you've mentioned be good for finding flights out of Hong Kong too?

        • +1

@jayel: Hey Jayel, I tried setting alerts, but where does one add the keywords. I only have the option of getting alerts from the website, when setting up a google alerts thing

        • @eltito:

check out youhavebeenupgraded (in german so translate in chrome browser. maybe there is a hong kong specific blog that is on the pulse for any deals out of there.

For intra-asia I understand avios is good for short haul business class. eg HK to hanoi or taipei. you can buy these points all the time and can work out to be around $220-250 return (normally $1200aud to buy these flights outright). so keep an eye on the head for points blog for points buying deals.

        • @geeluv:

          use the google search operators.
          https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433?hl=en

alerts is basically a notification when a new site shows up in a google search. however with the operators you can have much more control over what is searched and from where.

    • +2

Excellent question, would like to know more on this too!

  • +1

    Timing is everything in life.

    • … or maybe not.

  • +1

Hope flight will come with enough fuel from NZ

  • +3

Just got an email from myholidays.

We regret to inform you that we are unable to confirm the booking fare that do not exist at airline end. It was issue that happened with our website from the airlines.
We have only pre-authorized your payment. Meaning that amount has been blocked in your account. Since we are unable to confirm the booking we will release the amount.
We are apologizing for any inconvenience caused to you.

    • +1

Mine has also been cancelled :(

      • Was yours through Myholidays as well?

        • Mine was fly far which is part of flight network I think

    • +1

      got one too

    • Damn, gutted. Sorry for your loss. Of an awesome bargain

      • I thought it was odd that myholidayss still had the fare, available when it was finished everywhere else. Their website probably doesn't ticket straight away and relies on someone calling up the airline to do the booking manually and by this time it is too late. Like Fly365 same thing.

Always best to use Expedia USA, Orbitz, or Priceline for booking these amazing fares. Someone earlier in the thread got it done via BestJet so add that to the list to.

        • Lesson learnt for next time, for both of us!

  • How did everyone go? Have you received your e-ticket. This was a unbelievable price.

    • Reading on Flyertalk that these are now being progressively cancelled.

  • +2

Not looking good… cancelling etickets as well - http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2017/09/19/air-new-ze…

  • +1

People have probably already spent hours planning and maybe even some extra money for this trip… Sucks really.

  • +2

Air New Zealand isn't honoring the fare.

    • yes, unlike last year VA, who honor all wrong fare tickets

      • And Emirates last year!
