Cloud for Photo Storage

Hi. Just a quck question. I have loads of photos I want to store in the cloud. More than 1TB. What is the best/cheapest way of doing this? Can you store photos for free?

  • More than 1tb of photos….?? Do you require access our just in emergencies?

Check out B2 backblaze for infrequent access.

  • Google photo? Unlimited for standard quality photos

I find this service good, and the quality setting isn't a huge issue for me, but might be for people who shoot in RAW.
I keep full resolution back ups at home and work also, so Google is my disaster back up.
I would note it will take a loooooonnnngggg time to upload a terabyte of files unless you have a fast link.
It took about a week for me to upload 50Gb of my older photos, leaving the uploader ticking away in the background.
Google also have searching via EXIF and image content (e.g., you can search for all the pictures of uncle Dave) which I find a bit creepy.

Another tick for me is the ability to export all your images and delete them, as I am reluctant to use cloud services I can't get out of again in the future. (See the Smugmug debacle, for example).

      • Damn that is slow. And I have adsl2 with tpg….. And far from exchange. Too afraid to try haha

        • I think the uploader tries to use only a portion of available bandwidth, but I did notice things were slower while it was uploading.
That was with DSL getting about 8mbps/800kbps.
We have NBN at 25/5 now and I haven't noticed any slow down doing incremental back ups as I add new photos.

  • Flickr used to allow unlimited upload if you had an account. You could then let your account lapse and the photos were still accessible.

  • Amazon Prime Storage has unlimited storage for $100 a year.

    • Looked good until I saw it's for personal use only
