Xiaomi Dafang 1080P Smart Wi-Fi IP Camera US $18.99 (AU $25) Delivered (Priority) @ GearBest

2310
DAFANG

Looks like a good price on the new XIaomi Mijia Dafang cameras released last month I believe.

Home security IP camera with 1080p video resolution, with 120 degree field of view, equipped with pan and tilt movement functions. It also has night vision, Infrared-based motion detection, two-way audio and Micro SD recording.

From past deals it appears these are similar to Xiaofang cameras but also add pan and tilt features. Connects with Mi Home app.

Pay in AUD (~$25) on GearBest as their rate is lower than the current USD > AUD rate. Must be logged in to apply code, pay by PayPal.

Ensure that you use Australia Priority Mail shipping method to get the best/quickest shipping method available at this price, thanks to Bamzero. See photo here.

24/10 5pm: Back again for US $0.10 less (thanks doweyy)
16/11: Back again for $0.99 less

  • Thank you hamza23 and bamzero.

  • how is it powered? None of the product pics show a power cord.

    • +3

All of them are micro USB powered.

    • USB to Mini-USB cable mounts onto the base, same cable as provided with the xiaofang.

FYI this cam is 3 times as tall as the xiaofang, those motors take up a lot of space.

      • Yeah I just got mine today (ordered 14th). Surprised at the size of the box compared to the Xiaofang. Let's see how sensitive it is to motion :)

  • It says total of 53 USD for 2 cameras. Thats coming to 68 AUD. Will the cashback be applied after?

    • The coupon is probably 1 per account, if you wanted a second one best to get someone else to purchase 1 for you as well to your address.

Edit: Just tested, code only gives discount on 1 item. Not sure if it's 1 per order and you can make a second order or if it's 1 per account and you'll need to get another account to purchase a second one.

      • Thanks !

  • Thanks OP - wanted to check out one of these.

  • Semi related question - just got around to setting up the smaller version of the camera, and the stream is constantly freezing when being viewed by the Mi Home app. Has anyone else had this issue?

I have 100/40 NBN, it is as if the feed is coming to me from China..

    • I had the same issue. Updated firmware, updated app - problem solved.

      • Thanks, will look into camera firmware. Just downloaded the app from Google Play, so that should be ok.

        • When you download the app from Google Play, once installed it will say through it that there is an update available.

  • Does it work in Europe? I heard some of these cameras are locked to specific regions.
Edit: In the product FAQ they say it works in Greece so hopefully it does work in Europe.

Initially read the title as "DAFAK" and was wondering why I was so surprised…

  • Does anyone know if it works with Synology Surveillance Station and/or generic IP feed?

    • Normally these cameras work only with the Mi Home app. Some of them can be hacked to access a RTSP stream but haven't seen it for this particular model.

  • can you just buy one? I couldnt buy more than one using code???

    • Yeah code only discounts 1, I'm not sure if it's 1 per transaction or 1 per account. If it's 1 per account you might need another account, ie friend or family member delivered to your address.

  • Should I be concerned using the mihome app? Would applying the hack solve?

    • There is no hack yet for this model

  • Thanks OP, ordered mine, code works. I have an existing Xiaofang which works good just got to make sure locale in mihome app set to mainland China.

  • Anyone know the cheapest way to cord these through the ceiling? There isn't long MICRO USB cables. I was thinking POE Ethernet cable then a POE Ethernet Cable to USB adaptor?

    • why don't you just connect to a few USB extension cords

  • the review is not that great.

    • I received my pre-ordered one from BangGood (which was slightly more expensive than this offer) a few days ago. The Dafang (DF) add-on in MiHome android app is not that polished (with a good mixed of English/Chinese in the menu options). The DF network connectivity compared to the Xiaofang is not as smooth (quality drops to std rather hd) and connection keeps dropping off frequently. I have updated the firmware to 5.5.1.177 but that dont seem to be of any help. Hopefully future updates will fix this.

  • COUPON has reached it's limit

    • in my case, COUPON HAS EXPIRED.

Do we apply the promotional code in GearBest site or PayPal end?

The above conclusion is based on GearBest.

      • That's was on the App

        • Yeah the deal expires anyway

  • Looks like might be a little while before we get fang hacks for this one…
    https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks/issues/234

  • How is it powered? Do we still need to run a usb cable?

  • Serious and noob question, so if I plan to mount this on the wall indoor inside either lounge room or living, how is this device powered? Do I need to run some sort of cable or is this battery powered?

    • +1

You need USB power so would need cable or power packs.

Gearbest have added 500 more uses to the coupon, available again now for anyone who missed out.

  • Are they clamping down on points? I got this: "When the order status changes to "Shipped Out", you will receive a BONUS of 0 GB points from this order!"

In the past they gave points based on the RRP, not the discounted price, guess they fixed the oversight and went a bit further, no points at all now :-(

    • Prob just an error in the email. Mine said 33 points.

Have been getting rrp points on previous coupon orders. Just haven't been able to use them since all orders after have been with coupon and I don't see the option (unless I missed it but I don't think can combine)

I think their emails have issues sometimes. A previous order for a big item with priority line shipping said order shipped but untrackable. Had to contact them for tracking number but they didn't know why email came like that.

  • Ordered one.

  • Anyone else getting expired?

    • Just tryed it now still working goin to wait it out for the outdoor one

  • Expired?

    • Looks like it has, marked expired now thanks

    • Available again with MIDAFANG (thanks doweyy)

      • Cheers, bought one

  • The code is working but cannot select Priority shipping for free :(
    Any suggestions?

    • Ah it looks like this new code doesn't give free priority shipping, only regular shipping unfortunately.

    • Still seeing free Priority Mail here..

      Is this what you get?

      • Ah it is still there, my bad. Thanks for the photo.

        • +1

yep worked for me just now. also got a targeted $3 off $10 spend on TCB to stack :D

  • Code still working.

  • code coming up expired for me..

  • "The Code you entered has expired"

    Back again with “DAFANG” :)

  • Has anyone received theirs yet? Upon setting it up in app I can't access the cameras. I have 4x Xiaofang and did exactly the same thing before and doesn't seem to work.mihome clicking on camera doesn't bring up the feed. It says online too

    • I have just got mine today.. exactly the same thing.. updated f/w still the same… what can we do to rectify this ?

      • About to jump onboard too, mine just arrived. I've got air filters in the app currently on the Singapore server.
Am I going to have to switch everything over to mainland China server to be able to add the camera?

      • +1

Update firmware on camera but delete app and reinstall the app. But when you start up the app, don't update the app itself

    • +3

What version MiHome app are you guys using? I had v4.3.15 installed, wasn't working. (I'm still on firmware 5.5.1.161, with update to 5.5.1.177 available)

However got it working with v4.3.11

Looks like might be the last working version at the moment (Playstore was giving me 4.2.5 which also worked.)

      • Legend! I downgraded to v4.3.11 and the camera now works :) Thanks for your help :)

      • I can't find the right model. Which did you select? I've tired a few and they all time out

        • +2

You need to use mainland China server or else it won't show up in the list. It's the model in Chinese with (1080p) in the title.

          Edit: Here's the screenshot

        • @bamzero: yeh switched to it and found it. Have everything else set up in the Singapore server and it won't transfer over settings :/

        • @Dezeption:

Yeah same. Doesn't seem to find them on my network once set up either, looks like I'll have to do a full reset on them to add to mainland server.

All the Mi Store advertising and half translated text on this server ain't great either.

Trying to view the camera outside of the WiFi network seems almost impossible. Sometimes get a few images when set to low, but frequently disconnects. I guess everything goes to the China server then my phone when viewing remotely, not a direct connection.

Hoping the fanghack guys have some luck with this model do can use it with Tinycam or something (and doesn't lose panning control)

@bamzero: Have issue of selecting camera. Not sure what is the message.

        • -1

@Perumal: ignore, got it. Had to update app.

      • -1

Thanks bamzero - regressed to 4.3.11 and the new camera is working well….was at 5.0 before.

        • -1

5.0 works if you set language to chinese.
but it breaks other settings things for automation.

  • +1

thanks OP, deal is still on with DAFANG code

  • +1

It is delivered today and online now. I am very surprised with the price and quality finish.

  • -3

    Looks like DAFANG is DAF**KED.

Got mine yesterday, super quick shipping. Well built, haven't installed it somewhere yet. Is this one prone to being hacked? What can I do to prevent that?

    • You can’t easily prevent it AFAIK.

Perhaps just set it up so it records to SD card and you only control it via AP mode, you’ll still have to set it up via the app and have an account etc,

another xiaomi product for the xiaomi box at home.

my mrs is so confused, she is chinese i'm an aussie and she can't figure out why i have so many xiaomi products

  • This or Xiaomi Yi 1080p?

  • Code expired

  • +2

the product is brilliant! Can't imagine such good product at this low price.

  • Back again with DAFANG but now 10c cheaper at $19.89USD (AU$25.31) still with priority shipping, might be worth a sticky Hamza :)

    • My OzBargain heart just sank.

  • Hi, I have received mine. Is there a way to get instructions in English? Also how to set up for use in Australia? Are there step by step instructions.
    Thanks !

    • +1

I wrote a few pointers here, maybe that will help?

  • Does anyone know how to stop the buffering? Mine constantly keeps saying connecting every 5 seconds.

    • I would like to know too.

  • Does this work in Australia and which locale to set in the App? Also can it let you monitor home from mobile internet?

    • Yes it does.

      Set locale to mainland.

Yes you can monitor/control it remotely via your mobile.

  • +2

dont worry, china will watch your house for you

  • Is it possible to mount this on the wall in front of house under cover?
Would you recommend this over XiaoFang? Thank you.

    • +1

im Sure it’s possible but might be a bit tricky. The XiaoFang is probably easier - lighter and has a great magnetic base.

It has a tripod screw on the base so That might be an option - you could mount it upside down. It has an option to flip the picture.

  • +3

Just received one of these. It’s suprisingly decent.

Not quite as good wifi range or image quality compared to the little one but the auto-tracking works quite well, it will follow my cat as it moves around the room.

If people are worried about privacy/security it does have a AP mode where you connect to it directly. I use this with a spare iPad. Obviously you lose the functionality to check it remotely but I don’t mind, I’ve got an SD card in there which records everything.

IMO the iOS app is better than the android one. I use google translate on my phone to check any Chinese I’m unsure about, damn that app is amazing.

  • Anyone running this off a Powerbank?
I'm curious to understand how long it will last in stand by and record - not really going to use the pan tilt options.

    • I've run the Xiaofang off a 16000mAh powerbank before. It lasted less than 2 days. So this Dafang will surely take up more juice. Not recommended to be powered with a portable battery.

      • +1

        Thanks.

        • No worries. I have no idea why someone would neg you for a genuine question but I +'d to balance it out :S

        • +1

          @CVonC:
thanks again. in truth i was hoping i could run a 20k mAh powerbank outdoors (carport) with this / xiaofang.
it was looking cheaper than other battery powered options.
but looks like i will have to wait for the cheaper chinese options to be developed.

  • Code working again

  • Coupon has expired again :(
