What's Your Experience with GearBest?

Just curious as to other ozbargainers experiences with gearbest….. I've seen a lot of posts come up lately stating extremely long shipping times and some "cheap" packages that never even turned up.. I thought it might just be a few unrelated cases until I myself had issues too..

This isn't a post trying to push any agenda, just an honest question of the service and shipping you've experienced when using gearbest.

        • Cheers mate!

Sounds promising that they've dealt with it as well as they have!

I've been waiting over 6 weeks for mine to even ship (in which time they have had at least 2 sales on them that I know of). I've got in touch with @gearbest store rep on here and I'm hoping that they will be able to help me understand what is going on. Especially seeing as they have them on sale again, and I've just been told that I need to keep waiting. I'll be shitty as hell if they ship me fakes after all this!

PS. Thanks for the link! Interesting reading.

Good, reasonable for a dirt cheap Chinese shop.. just don't expect much or expect the worse.. I probably wouldn't buy anything over $50 AUD from them unless I really absolutely had to.. Even then I would definitely have cold feet and second thoughts after hearing of some items not turning up.

But for the 3 transaction I had which were all under $25 AUD they all came on time about a month or more and in good condition..

  • +13

Wow, im starting to wonder if the mods should do something about what is going on here, I had no idea it was this bad… Multiple people receiving fake products, people being refused a refund for products DOA… More reports of products never being shipped.. yet there is multiple gearbest deals on the front page right now.

    • I also wonder why most of the things sold at GB says xiaomi in front when the item box which comes does not have even a word Ziaomi like the sonic toothbrushes. Few poeple stated it was funded by Xiaomi, but how to trust of they are originals?

  • I never had any issues with anything, though I always use DHL when buying from Gearbest (I hate waiting). Have spent around 1k in last 10 months on gear best. quite happy with everything I bought. Only issue I have noticed is that they usually ship things in 1-2 days but will update status in 4-5 days.

  • I ordered the Xiaomi power bank 2 but received the original power bank. I called them up and when the guy realised the mistake he said “(fk)” (lol) and said he would send through the correct order with a return envelope so I can return the one I received.

Didn’t end up receiving the correct order and I couldn’t be bothered to follow it up and call back so I just used it for a while and gave it to my brother in law because he needs it overseas when there’s a power cut.

  • +2

ordered my xiaomi 20k mah powerbank and they sent it without any padding, i think anything would have been better than nothing.

also im getting sick of their despatch times, sometimes the stuff i order doesnt get sent out for 2+ weeks.
i dont think i will order from them anymore, especially now that i have seen that they are willingly selling fake xiaomi products.

there needs to be a poll whether GearBest can stay on ozbargain or not… selling fake products should be an instant perma ban…

the links posted above by ENZA DENINO (LOL) are from 1 year ago, 6 months ago and 20days ago, and these guys are still selling fakes?

  • +2

Have only purchased Xiaomi items from them (e.g. lights, earphones) and they usually take a month to arrive. Haven't had any problems, everything has arrived exactly as described, however i'd say be prepared for long delivery times

  • i bought usb c 20000 mah power bank more than 2 weeks ago. i got notification it was shipped yesterday.

today the same item is 10 dollars cheaper so i bought another one lol.

will report when i actually get it.

    • Following the abovementioned post, today I have received an email saying it is being delivered. 2 biz days only.

      hmmm… coinciding with this thread?

i still havent received the one i ordered 2 or 3 weeks ago. i will wait.

    • Hi burningrage,we have stock for the power bank when we post deals,if you order cant be shipped within 2 days, pls contact me and let me check for you.

      • Hi Reps,

The first one took almost 2 weeks before being shipped. I am still waiting for that but conscious it's probably beyond your control.
The second one was shipped yesterday. So I am waiting for that as well. Again, conscious it's probably beyond your control.

        I will wait.

From what I've read on Ozbargain and WP the after sales service is terrible. They waste your time and then you eventually give up so as long as you hope everything goes well it's worth a shot but if it doesn't arrive or it's defective you're in big trouble!

Most the time the item will arrive and not crazy long shipping times but that's not what I'd be worried about.

So you buy a $1k laptop and have a problem with it within 30days. What are you going to do then? You think gearbest will offer you an option to send it back when it'll likely cost them $150-$200 return postage?

  • It was good but same as Aliexpress ;-0

  • +1

Ozbargain has become a dumping ground for Xiaomi products. GearBest, banggood and zapals etc are leading the charge.

    • +2

Thats ok as long as the products are quality and at a cheap price.

      • By quality I hope you mean, not fake?

  • +9

I paid for priority shipping and they took 5 weeks to ship the product, then issued me a bogus shipping number on top. Parcel arrived beat to hell via regular mail at around the week 7 mark & the purchase wasn't even wrapped with protective inner-packaging. Then the cherry on the cake was that it was a counterfeit product.

I then spent the better part of multiple further weeks trying to chase up any sort of refund or even a response from them and was eventually told to either ship it back at my expense for a partial refund, or raise a case with Paypal (I didn't even use Paypal to buy the product). I simply just called my bank's contact center and had them reverse the charge on my credit card, which put the money back on my card within 48 hours, no questions asked. I should have just done that after the product hadn't arrived within 14 days.

Anyway, ScamBest's bargain posts seem to be generating enough click revenue for the people running this site to allow them to still list their bait deals here, so obviously nothing will change.

Live and you learn, I guess. Wouldn't ever buy from them again obviously, will keep warning people about ever doing so in the future too.

What also bothers me is that they sign you up for their daily newsletter automatically and unsubscribing seems broken.

    • +2

Use GMail, add extra periods to the email address you subscribe with, (probably works with other email providers).

eg. Your email is: [email protected] subscribe with [email protected] or [email protected], they'll still come through but you can easily filter them into the trash when a site fails to unsubscribe.

      • confirmed… just tried to unsubscribe and the site doesn't connect…

      • +4

You can also use pluses and add anything you want after it.

        [email protected]

        [email protected] for example

        • Ah, that was the other one I couldn't remember, thanks :)

        • +1

Wow this is a great tip! Thanks

    • +2

I refuse to use them because of this. If you want to be a reputable reseller, and you a) subscribe people without warning to a spam list and b) don't provide a valid way off it, I don't wanna know about you.

That and no customer service, coupled with the usual 'slow boat from China' delivery, I just don't bother.

    • I too had this problem, however I fixed it by going here:
      http://edm.gearbest.com/
I no longer get spam. :)

      • Yeah, that's exactly the link that didn't work for at least a week straight. Glad fixed it finally.
Still bad style to sign up people without permission (and in Australia that would be illegal).

  • +5

Pretty shit. Order gets refunded automatically after 5 days of order. No response from them, no email if order got cancelled, and no reason why order got refunded.

So I just ignore their deal posted on ozbargain. Banggood (alternative to GearBest) has been very good so far.

  • All my powerbanks seem to be fine with priority shipping.

  • +1

The advice handed out over here is to never spend more than £15 (that's around AUD25) with companies not based in your own country, and I stick to that.
I have ordered from GearBest, Banggood and Zapals without any problems (yet) although the delivery period can be rather long and one should factor this in before placing an order. Based on what others have posted on this site I have not opted for a (so called) express delivery because, if nothing else, the product purchased then ceases to be competitively priced for me.
Unlike AliExpress, who in my experience side with the supplier in the time of a dispute (which is why I don't order through them anymore) one does have the support of Paypal with the above mentioned three companies.

  • I've received everything that I've ordered from GearBest. Some items which I ordered later ended up arriving much earlier which is a little strange, but they've been better in terms of customer support and offering refunds compared to other sites like GeekBuying. I'd put GearBest up there with Banggood as neither have failed me (so far) :)

  • +4

Ordered few kids toys with them 3 times. Never received them would avoid them in future.

    • +1

I'll be completely honest, when I first made this thread I never imagined it would blow up like this. Now that I'm finding out so many users have had such terrible experiences with this company, I guess I'm left here scratching my head wondering why their deals are allowed to keep gracing the front page every day, especially after multiple cases of fake products being sold via posted deals… when is someone going to draw the line?

      • +4

After lodging case with PayPal for refund on 2 orders. Even though the amount was trivial I still seeked for refund as I didn't want them to get away with it.

        • Hi ady211,is there anything I can do for you? Is it Possible you send me your order number for checking?

    • Hi Toretto,we are sorry for this inconvenience, have you final got your refund, could you pls pm me your order number for checking?

  • Had 50 orders from GB over the last 3.5 years. Received all with the expected late shipping. Mostly consists of those impulse $1 or cents deals with a few bigger ones (one $125, one $172, one $150, a few in the range of $20-50) with this one as my first order at the very beginning - the only order that literally took months (3?) to arrive.

  • the cheap stuff i don't really pay attention to much, but usually around the 4 week mark give take
higher priced ones i pay for priority and yep - within a week

what happens with the free shipping method is that they send a container (or multiple) through to AU, and from the distribution warehouse here they get labelled and resent out locally. the containers could be once a month or once a week etc… just depends on demand. if your order just so happens to be included with the current container then you'd get it much quicker, else your package would just be with them waiting to be sent

haven't had "bad" experiences with them, so it's done what i needed

  • +1

My last three orders from GB have all been 'refunded through Paypal' for no apparent reason (all deals from here) about a week after ordering…. Don't know what the heck is going on as there is no message anywhere just an email from Paypal and the word REFUNDED on their site.

There are so many other Chinese import site with similar prices/products so I will probably not bother with them again.

Also I can't seem to find a way to delete my account/details on their site. Does anybody know how..?

  • +2

I bought something from them, it hasn't arrived yet. The 'unsubscribe' link in their mailing list emails doesn't work.

  • Bought a couple of pairs of Xiaomi earphones and products from them. Over the course of 2 years. Have taken anywhere between 1-2 and a half weeks to get here. No missing items or problems with my orders.

  • Ordered a few things from them; free shipping took about a month, express took just over a week

  • Never had issues with packages not turning up, but some have taken 4-6 weeks.

  • +4

I have so far ordered two items from them. Nothing has been delivered for over 7 weeks.

1st item was normal post so I would expect that much delay but the second item was priority mail and it is still not delivered for 3 weeks now. I never experience this much delay using Chinese sellers on eBay. Looks like all dodgy sellers are now selling items on GB.

Mods really need to do something, we don't want this site to become GbBargain where item never arrives!

    • +1

Yeap.. no wonder gearbest has been banned before on OZB.

    • Could you pls pm me your order number for checking?

  • Received last 5/5 orders, i kinda like the long wait before i get them, it's like a suprise

  • +5

My first purchase with them was a bad experience. Bought a dashcam on Sep 15 that was on 'flash sale'; thought it was a good deal. Paid extra for tracking.

At the time, it was showing 500+ units in stock and supposed to be shipped out in 3 days.

I never got a tracking number until Sep 29 after hassling them.

The tracking status has not changed and still showing "COLLECTION GUANGZHOU" whatever that means..

It is still showing that status today.

I did not pay for express shipping so to be fair I did not expect to receive the item within 10 days. But right now, I don't think I'll ever receive my dashcam. I don't even know if the tracking number is real.

I have purchased from geekbuying, banggood, dx, lightinthebox and have never encountered problem like this..

EDIT: awesome, they apparently have 871 pieces of the G1W-CB dashcam as of right now, and ready to ship Oct 16 (today). But my order from Sep 15 is still in "COLLECTION GAUNGZHOU". Dont trust these liars.. buyers beware

    • Hi Chaluo, could you pls pm me your order number for checking?

      • Item arrived today!
        Talk about timing.
        All good now Gearbest

        • Thank you for your kind feedback!

  • All my orders has been delivered albeit with the long delivery, about a month.

I've recently got hooked into the deals on here with GearBest.

My only order was a pair of Meizu EP51's which I paid for the faster shipping on and they came pretty quick. (About a week and a half?) I've been using them since and they are great.

Since then I've probably gone a bit overboard and bought lots of little items during the deals (14 orders) as well as 2 of the Mi band 2's.

I haven't received anything yet however my first of these orders was only on 29/09 and by the sounds of things everyone seems to receive their orders in between the 4-6 week mark. Will update on if I receive everything!

  • I ordered headphones for 14 bucks, spend 1.50 extra for express shipping and it arrived after 7 days (shipping time 7-14 days).

  • +1

order now and get it in time for xmas 2018

  • I've ordered a few cheap stuff from there and they've all eventually shown up, albeit a long wait. I don't think it's a site you should use if you need something right away. It's more for those 'luxury' small items you want a spare of but not right away.

  • I dont order a lot from them, but the last order was a YeeLight which was faulty out of the box and they offered a full refund/replacement. Cant complain so far.
The long delivery is to be expected and a non-issue for me.

  • Nothing too bad. The usual delay as expected from something that's delivered from China.

  • I've had no problems with many purchases. Shipping insurance or registered post is not that expensive, well worth the $$ if your purchase is over $20. You think austPost is bad? Imagine what China Post is like. Generally shipping from any store in China especially when it's free just about always takes 4-6 weeks so you can't blast them for that.

  • +2

just hard to have a communication with them if something goes wrong. Just repeating the same answer (which basically like a template to answer anybody) without any solutions. Paypal dispute will be ended by paypal system and not from their end so they try to hold your money as long as possible.

  • randolpg
Never had any problem with gearbest. Latest Product received was Exactly 16 Days to regional NSW. Alway Good

  • products are cheap, really cheap

  • +4

I've had nothing but trouble with Gearbest, Banggood are way better in my experience, protip is to use Banggood and don't use the free postage, use one tier up from free (usually only a couple of bucks) and you get the stuff within 14 days or so everytime!

  • +3

Longer than normal China shipping times.
Gearbest just cancelled my order for three items worth about US$60 for no apparent reason.
Will not shop with GearBest again as they are GearShit.

    I will always use Banggood.

    • Hi teaBagger, could you pls pm me your order number for checking? I am only sales,I can find the reason why order department will cancel your order since we are working so hard to bring orders for GB.thanks!

  • After seeing so many people getting orgasms at the mention of xiaomi headphones, IEMs, powerbanks, etc, I decided to try gearbest. Xiaomi earphones were my first order. I am a collector of headphones and own few sennheisers and boses. I still felt they were decent at the price I paid. I then ordered a robot toy for my daughter which arrived promptly with free shipping. And the toy was sensational. It is rechargeable. I charged it only for an hour and it is still going strong after a month. The robot is also sensational. I then ordered an android tablet which seems to be have unbelievable specs at unbelievably cheap price. The order never shipped. I visited my orders page and kept clicking the ship faster link. After a few days without even me asking for it, whatever I paid for the android tablet were refunded back to me. Overall, I had a pretty positive experience with gearbest and I have no qualms referring people to use it. But from the rest of the comments, it seems to be a hit or miss case with the chinese sites

  • I've been ordering from them for years. Probably hundreds of items. Basically, if I need it and can wait for a few weeks it comes from GearBest or DealExtreme, but GearBest is my site of choice.

Generally I buy the things that I'd otherwise pay a 400-800% mark-up to get it in a blister pack in a store here (Kathmandu, Anaconda are good examples of huge margins on the same things that can be had from GearBest without the branding, they're all from the same factories).

    Also lots of Arduino bits.

I've never really had a bad experience, and never had anything go missing. I do occasionally pay insurance for more expensive items.

I did have a WiFi switch turn up not working, I tried to get a refund or replacement and they asked for a video to prove it wasn't working. That's a huge pain in the ass and I can only assume it's designed as a barrier to stop you from following through unless you really care. I didn't.

I've spent a lot with them, but they've also saved me a load on things I would have bought anyway. My wife sometimes worries that I'm spending a fortune, but the monthly GB spend is usually no more than $20 for lots of little treats arriving every few days. Like Christmas!

Yes, things take a while, but they're from China via surface mail. Just accept that it is what it is.

I would say that for many items, trying to buy local doesn't help any more. I'm sick of paying extra to Australian sellers on eBay only to receive items drop-shipped from China anyway.

  • +1

Like other sites such as Kogan and Uniquemobiles, Gearbest do not seem to have any stock on items that they don't list as ships in 24 hours, so you'll never know when they'll actually ship. My order status remained at packed for a long time but was never shipped, and eventually I had to refund via Paypal because opening a ticket just gives you a generic please wait message. It's probably a good idea to not buy anything that won't be shipped the next day (Aliexpress doesn't have an estimate but I've received all my orders from them).

  • 5 weeks for my pi3 took longer than usual for me from China. But at least it arrived!

  • +3

Throwing my opinion into the discussion because I think it's time we revisited at the Great GearBest Ban of 2015. I've order three items from Gearbest, nothing over $50AUD (I wouldn't trust them with more than that). More information on GearBest and Ozbargin's relationship can be found in our forums here.

    • (Late 2016) - With my first order I had no idea what I was in for, so I was a little more patient, however after 3 weeks I contacted them, and after another 2 weeks they admitted they sold the product without having stock but refused to refund it, claiming stock was coming "tomorrow". I took up the issue with Paypal a week later and was given my refund. My account was closed after.
    • (Early 2017) - Made another order, on a brand new account, and ran into the same issue and after 2 weeks. The item still hadn't been dispatched, and I'd paid for priority shipping. I inquired to GearBest and the response was "soon", and that they were very busy. After another week I sought a refund from Paypal. My account was closed again. I swore off GearBest.
    • (Late 2017) - A Nitecore D4 Battery Charger deal proved too much to resist so I made my third account. This time I only waited a few days before contacting them about slow shipping, and it took roughly 10 days for my item to actually be shipped (now sitting at "Origin Hub"). Since it has been shipped, it's been stuck for the past 5 days with no sign of movement. Additionally, the address they put on the consignment sheet is wrong (missing my apartment details), so I suspect I will never get this either.

I have always used priority shipping, even if it was the default one they suggested which costs more (and does nothing extra). GearBest is a risk, I wouldn't order anything your desperate for or need in any great hurry from them, not unless your willing to get a job working in their factory.

    • Hi xS415X,we are sorry for all the inconvenience, could you pls pm me your order number for checking so I can find the reason why it happened and we can better improve it.
As I have declare before, you always could find estimated Dispatch time on our product page,if you find it is too long, pls dont buy.

      • As I have declare before, you always could find estimated Dispatch time on our product page,if you find it is too long, pls dont buy.

Please don't buy? Interesting business model/customer support script you have there. Anyway…

I always check the estimated Dispatch time. However, when I purchased the Nitecore D4 dispatch was listed as the very next day (I always assume that means next two days, with timezones, working hours, processing times, etc). I'm sure RockMeLoOn can confirm this as well for the Nitecore, and since he's been impacted far worse than I have. The dispatch time has to be accurate for it to be useful as a point of reference, and that's probably where a lot of this frustration directed towards GearBest is coming from.

Truthfully waiting a week for something to be dispatched isn’t unreasonable, but it’s still disappointing when most eBay companies can do it within 2 days and dispatch was listed as next day (and still is on the Nitecore).

There may be another issue at play here too, your tracking website for AUEXPHQ (weird StarTrack that isn’t StarTrack) has been showing my delivery as “Accepted at origin hub” for ~7 days, and then magically it departed the facility, arrived in Australia, and cleared customs (all with backdated time stamps). So perhaps your tracking site/software/whatever isn’t working correctly.

I'm now Tracking it through Australia Post (StarTrack has no idea what it is, sounds like it was sent through regular parcel post not the express I was paid for, but we'll see.) since that seems more reliable. If my item doesn't turn up from here, I'll be reaching out. Otherwise I think it's best to just let it work it's way through Australia Post and hope that you guys didn't get my address wrong and the consignment sheet is simply the issue.

        • Could you pls provide me your order number for checking?

    • Additionally, the address they put on the consignment sheet is wrong (missing my apartment details), so I suspect I will never get this either.

Sitting at 3/3 from GearBest with the wrong shipping address on GearBest's order details. Had to double-check PayPal to see if it was my error but it was GB missing 2nd line of address.
Packages arrived with the correct information though so I'd say 92.35% chance you'll get your order as well ;P

      • My package finally arrived (Well, I finally took ownership of it). They had in fact missed the whole second line of the shipping details (My apartment number, etc) like I feared; so my Nitecore spent some time sitting with Building Management until we could track each other down. I think from now on I'll be setting my address as "11/20 Some Street" just to be safe.

I'd suggest anyone who lives in an apartment or similar does the same just to be safe.

    • General update on my last order. My package finally arrived about 20 days after my purchase. They had in fact missed the whole second line of the shipping details (My apartment number, etc) like I feared; so my Nitecore spent some time sitting with Building Management until we could track each other down. I think from now on I'll be setting my address as "11/20 Fake Street" just to be safe. I'd suggest anyone who lives in an apartment or similar does the same.

The actual product itself checks out and passes Nitrecore's authenticity checking service, which is a huge plus. The box it came in looked like it went a few rounds with a Kangaroo and lost, however, but everything was fine with no damage to the actual charger itself. I'm guessing the guys doing the packing probably got bored and played a quick game of Football with it.

Obviously this is a huge improvement on my last two experiences with GearBest, however there is way for them to go before I'd consider them a 100% reputable site. I'll still be taking a pessimistic attitude into any future purchases with them due to the unreliable dispatch dates and the simple mistake of getting postal addresses wrong. But, I'll be less hasty to rush a Paypal claim.

  • I have been shopping with gearbest. If shipping time is not a problem go for it. Each and every delivery has arrived for me in good condition. Made around 30 orders

Just order and forget about it. But one day you will be surprised to see item wondering had u ordered it? Haha.

  • They've been ok for me so far - Their support isn't the fastest but they do respond and they recently cancelled/refunded an order of mine before it was shipped.

  • +3

I ordered a phone and its battery died in 6 months. It took me about 6 months and about a hundred emails to try and get them to own up to fixing it for no extra money. Ended up paying for return shipping and then waiting another month for the fixed phone to be shipped back. Never purchasing electronics over a 100 bucks from them.

  • They take about 2 weeks longer than normal however I have always received products.
Ordered maybe 4 things from then with one never arriving so they sent out another but arrived 2 weeks later so they told me to keep it.

  • More than 20 orders with them this year and all have arrived. Mostly free untracked shipping, some tracked.
A few arrived quicker than expected, a few later than expected, most within the 45 calendar days.

I've had paid shipping taking quite a few days before the item was shipped, and other times when the item arrived within a week or 10 days.
In general, delivery times are very rough estimates, don't depend on it to be accurate.

For the prices they offer, I'll happily wait a bit. I don't expect Aussie delivery standards at China prices.

  • Im still waiting for the Mi Band from the 6th Sept but have received another order that I bought on the 24th September bluetooth receiver. What is the best way to deal with this? Should I get a refund from Paypal? Or what else should I do? Sorry as I am new to dealing with Gearbest and value your insights.
