Networking Help for NBN - Best Router

Hi all

Currently about to transition from ADSL2 to FTTN thanks to the aussie broadband offer. I have obtained a telstra Sagemcom F@ST 5535 modem/router that i plan to use with it however it only has 2 Lan ports which isn't enough for my setup so help on the below would be appreciated

  1. use the Sagemcom F@ST 5535 in bridge mode and connect to my TP-Link TL-WR841N router (running DD-WRT) - this is what my current ADSL setup is (although i use another modem in bridge)
  2. use the Sagemcom F@ST 5535 in bridge mode and buy another recommended router (see 4 tho)
  3. use the Sagemcom F@ST 5535 and purchase a 5 port Ethernet switch - like 30 bucks
  4. recommend a modem/router - but essentially i am trying to keep the cost down unless the pros heavily outweigh it

The wifi range needs to be good tho - currently i slightly power boost the strength of my TP link which will rule out 2 if the sagemcom is worse than the TP link

  • The TG799vac's flooding eBay for ~$30 sync very well on VDSL and have 4x gigabit ports. Wifi range is also good IMO. I have the F@ST 5355 (Telstra gateway 2, don't think there's a 5535) and it syncs at 32mbps compared with 39 on the TG799.

  • I have been extremely impressed with my R7000. I have FTTP and it is far superior to the router Telstra provided. You will probably have to get the D7000 though for the modem function. Sync speed is great, performance is great and WiFi range is excellent. It's an old product now so you should be able to pick one up for pretty cheap.
