  • If I have registered and my girlfriend has the same card numbers but the card has her name on it, if she uses her card instead of mine will the credit work? I know the card numbers are the same but wasnt sure whether the system recognises a different name and doesn't accept it.

    • -1

Looks like you have a CBA Amex supplementary card? I believe the supp uses the same number as the main card. If that’s correct you will only be able to register and get 1x offer. Same for any of the Amex offers as well eg shopsmall etc. If you have NAB as an example, the Amex card numbers are different. Hope that helps.

Guys how does this Amex cashback work? Is it one use per card? Is there an Amex surcharge for purchases?

    • One use per card. No surcharge at Harvey

      • So would u be eligible to use the cashback offer for a different item at a different retailer?

        • The terms state this offer is only available for purchases at Harvey Norman.

You must first save this offer on your American Express card by visiting the American Express offer webpage. You will enter your name, card detail and email address.

If your purchase is successful, you will get an email immediately saying that the offer was redeemed. The $100 credit will appear in your credit card account.

  • Xbox One X launches tomorrow 649 @ HN or 549 with Amex, or 449 with two cards? Assuming they have stock in store tomorrow as you can't split pay online..

    • +1

      You can only use 2 cards when price exceeds $800, i.e. 2 x $400

      • Thanks for pointing that out didn't appreciate you had to have two lots of 400

  • Can anyone find any holes in this plan.

3 X amex cards to buy 400+ on a prepaid visa on each card in store (pending them accepting Amex for gift cards)

Use the visas at eb games (plus trading in an old console for the S) and use the remaining prepaid balance on some bills.

    • No issues with that plan. The Prepaid Visa cards work at any place that accepts Visa card.

      • Hi mate with Vpay are you able to do $400 demonimations?

        • No. They were $25, $300 and $500 for me at the HN Sunshine (VIC) I went to.

        • +4

          @danielh:
Get a $300 and $500 and then Split payment on 2 cards

        • @danielh:

Do you know what if the terminals require a pin if you use Apple Pay?

        • +1

@easternculture: Yeah, considered that but didn't want to annoy the nice girl who was processing seven of them for me. Would have possibly saved $5.95 but was not worth the grief and risk them deciding to not allow it because of the hassle.

Took 20 mins alone to do it on our side.

At the end of the day, it is a VISA card and so I could use it effectively anywhere and so having an additional $100 on these cards was not a hassle to me in the long run.

        • @nightelves: No clues on this. I do not have an ANZ account but I do know that the HN Sunshine terminal accepted ApplePay. I'm assuming you were going to do some sort of borrow a friends ApplePay thing and tap it there on their behalf?

        • @danielh:

No I'm doing it for supplementary cards and don't want to have to remember what pin each of my family member uses. It's a lot quicker also. Found out on Amex you don't need a pin. Makes paying for them a lot easier and faster as well.

        • @easternculture:

Can I please ask which store sell vpay in NSW?

        • @nightelves:
Just write the pin at the back of card.
Surely you can scramble the pin a bit which is unguessable.
Back to front. Or mix them up with other numbers in between or front and back.

          Impossible to guess

        • @lovepub:

Apple Pay you don't need pin. Much easier as some stores ask if this card is yours and want proof of ID

  • Hi everyone

just a quick check, if we have another supplementary card on the same account, will that do as well? so I can use 2x $100 on the same account pretty much?

    Thank you.

    • Huh???

You need to spend $400. Not 2*$100

      • I meant, if the item price is $1,000 and I use my card plus my wife's supplementary card.

        Will I get $200 or just $100?

        Cheers

        • Are the card numbers different? If not, as registration is by card number, you'll end up only being able to register once and get $100.

        • @ATreeFiddy:

          Yes, it is different :).

        • +1

          @cintamami:

you 'd need to register both cards or save the offers.

        • +1

          @PissLUR:

          Done!

  • Here's a $1 item for your $399 pickup goodness.
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/duracell-aa-battery-4-pack.html

    Dammit. Not available for pickup.

  • Can this be used at 4670??

  • Just got 4x $500 VISA gift cards (physical) at HN Chadstone. Lovely girl at checkout very helpful. Shame she wasn't able to get the $1000 VISA gift cards to work so had to settle for $500. 4x $5.95 activation fee instead of 2x, oh well not complaining. AMEX emails came straight through after!

Funnily enough, during that time the cashiers had a few phone calls querying physical gift cards, and had someone behind me wanting to grab the VPay gift card.

Better get in quick and early else HN may start rejecting people when they cotton on. Can't see why they would, only that you may find they'll give you more of a hard time as they'll get sick of these transactions.

Also, Nunawading and Knox only do VPay, no physical cards.

    YMMV good luck!!!

    • Do you have to ask to the cashier to get it? Was in Knox like an hour ago, but couldn't see any VPay paperpack (nor Visa cards) on the shelf

      • I'm not sure about that as I called. Guess you'll have to ask the cashier.

  • Did 3 separate orders online for $400 gift cards (2 x $200)

1 went through fine, and received vouchers. Other 2 were declined.

But got all 3 Amex credit emails so will see what happens.

    • will get credit only for one.

you can still redeem on the other 2 cards.

      • Last year I got the credits even though they refunded the orders!

        • woah!
so the credits weren't taken back

  • +1

Looks like no store in WA has any visa gift cards. One even said they were being scammed too many times. This they stopped selling them.

    • Did you notice if they have any any other gift cards? Woolworths / Coles?

      Thanks

      • +1

No go on any other gift cards.

    • Some sales just generalised it. Stores are franchised right ? So it is up to the individual store whether to sell or hide them during promotion. Not sure what do they referring to with scammed.

      • That's the dumbest thing I've heard. Selling prepaid visa gift cards is no more risky than any other product sold by HN and paid for with credit card.

        • It's more likely less to do with scams, and more to do with the minuscule profit margin on pre paid visa cards

        • +1

A lot of credit card fraud involves buying giftcards. Some cashiers get really sus when buying multiple giftcards on credit.

        • @SBOB: Business must be good when you choose to make nothing over minuscule margins.

        • +4

          @t25:

when this cashback promo is on, they would be making a loss on these kind of low profit items

Im sure their plan is that 'on average' people will buy stuff thats profitable and hopefully drive some business..
I couldnt care less about Gerry's profits, but its pretty easy to see why during these times they try and hide or reduce the sales on these pre-paid visa cards

        • @SBOB: I definitely see where you are coming from. I also see it as foot traffic is always a good thing. Keeps your shop in the shopper's mind and who knows maybe a potential sale.

  • I've posted once in reply to a comment above, but would rather have a more general response

How is buying the visa gift card through this not considered a cash advance?

It seems that this has been an issue in the past

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150255#comment

I'm happy to pay more but would rather not damage my credit score

    • I guess it is similar to paying for a gift card like the Coles Myer ones.

    • Not sure what your credit score has to do with this. Likely because you can’t use the card to withdraw cash.

  • DOES ANYONE REMEMBER IT WAS 300-100 LAST YEAR

  • Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere - but is it $100 Harvey Norman Credit or $100 cash back?

    • $100 cashback (to your credit card account)

    • It's credited to your CC account.

  • +3

Great timing. Harvey Norman have a special today for Air Con installation ($299 for a 3.5Kw system). Using 2 different cards, just got a Kelvinator 3.5 kw system for under $950 installed).

    • That is a great deal! Was this at a particular HN or was it across the board?

      • I believe it was across the board. They only had the cheap installation offer for 5 days which finished yesterday. If you're interested it may be worth checking to see whether they can extend it.

  • Are physical Visa gift cards still available at HV Chadstone ??

  • So this only works for those NSW stores in store?

Edit: guess not, I should read all these comments

  • Negative for Visa GC at HN, Broadway, Sydney.
    They only have HN GC’a.

  • Hey for those who bought prepaid Visa giftcard, have you noticed the site for checking $ balance has changed some months ago?

    Mygift2u.com.au

It now asks for username/pass or passcode which was not supplied with the card.

    • Lol the url sounds so suss

      • IKR, but that's what was printed in the inner sleeve.

    • +4

They had big fraud and compromised website many months back where legit people bought the cards and turned out they had zero balance when trying to use it especially when they themselves never used it.

      • Hey do you have details on this? Can't find any mention of it on few amex threads on ozbargain

        • +1

Happened to me. You have to email them your card details and they will give you balance details.

  • +2

For those going to Harvey Norman Oxley QLD, you may have to time your visit because the staff at the counter this morning wouldn't let me buy cards if using Amex.

She just made her own rules as she went. First it was

-'email from headoffice' forbidding it. I pointed out other HN have no such rule
-then changed story to, ooh its this franchisee's own rule

    • +1

Lol, that's poor form by her.

I called up HN Fortitude Valley and Garden City (QLD) and both said they didn't sell visa gcs and only had HN ones.

Anyone in Brisbane manage to find one?

      • +1

They lied you, I visited Garden City this morning and the lady told me she can sell me the HN gift card, but the visa card (many at the cashier) as she has no access to load the visa card. Instead, she suggested me to go to Australia Post to buy the visa card.

        • +2

Lol what a bunch of lunatics hey!

What's the point of selling the visa card if she has no access to load them? Wtf?

        • we may have spoken to the same person =)
the cashier on Garden City had Visa prepaid cards next to her but she said they've hit their activation limit even tho it was still AM.

    • +1

HN Oxley is the one to avoid even there is no promotion. Staff is rude, telling BS things and make you like an idiot in front of other customers.

      • Ditto I have avoided this store after the horrible experience last year. Would rather take the business to another store even I have to go further.

  • when i check where to use - its only showing Sydney postcodes.. can someone confirm if its available in melb?

  • When people say supplementary cards what are they talking about?

Is it my main card + my wife's card?

    • +1

Yes multiple cards on the same account. They will either have different card numbers (allowing multiple registrations) or the same number (allowing only one registration)

    • +1

That is assuming your wife got that card because you told the bank to provide an extra set of Amex/Visa cards for her but you pay the bills.

FYI. Only NAB and Amex itself give out supplementary cards which have unique numbers. The other two banks which have Amex (CBA and Westpac) do not so if you gave your wife a supplementary card via those two banks then you are out of luck as it would have the same card number.

  • just bought $1600 worth of HN gift cards in store using 4 amexes
    thanks OP

  • +1

Just a heads up also if your local HN has a Domayne next door.

Someone reported they didn't get their credit when this offer was on last year

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4139117/redir

  • What is the consensus on trying to buy the HN gift cards online from the website (and using AMEX to pay for it)?

    • Got through 2 promotions ago, didn't try the last round.

  • +1

Castle Hill is out of gift cards

store person said they sold $6K of gift cards today and will be re-stocked in about 2-3 weeks

  • +1

Qv in Melbourne said they can't sell giftcards on amex.

    • I think there might be a Domayne register issue with HN QV anyway so even if you were allowed, you would also have to check what POS terminal they did it on and hope that it was a HN one.

  • has anyone tried to split bill? E.g. an item costs $800, can i pay $400 with amex card, and $400 with Harvey norman gift card?

    • Sure, have split payments before (and in theory part payment using a gift card should be bog standard). But depends on the store as to how friendly they are about it.

      • ahh thanks for the note!

  • Was refused HN gift cards at Auburn NSW. :(

    • what was the reason ?

      • Gift cards are not allowed in Amex promotion. I tried to argue how do u know that I registered for the promotion. She wasn’t having it saying they have been instructed to not sell. So I just left.

        • +2

          Insane behaviour

        • +1

I know. There goes my iPhone X dream. :(

        • @PPrem: Why did you want to buy gift cards ? Just pre-order iphone x with them
