It's basically a repeat of this deal but with a ~$800 phone included as well (on 24 months instead of 12 month term).

Compared to this $49/month JB BYO deal, you are paying an extra $240 over the 24 months and giving up $200 JB gift card & 5GB of data; however you are getting a $600-$900ish phone included instead.

If you value the Galaxy S8 at $800 (I think the cheapest deal we saw was $799 for Bing Lee) then you are paying $640 over 24 months for the 15GB contract = $26.66/month which seems like a great deal on the Telstra network and also no upfront cost required. That's probably the best value there since the Pixel XL and iPhone 6s are older models but they are options for Apple users or someone not wanting to go down the Samsung path.

    My tip is, do not initiate the chat.
    Go to telstra via cashreward (get 105 money back).
    Copy and paste the family and friend direct link listed in page 2.
    Wait for a few minute and you will be invited to chat - do not initiate chat.
    Tell them that you have heard about the xmas bonus of 5gb for the family and friend phone plan. They will gladly help you.

    They will tell you to complete the registration and at the end there is the order ref number that you will give him/her.

      Thanks! I did exactly what you said this morning. Transferred my Telstra prepaid to Vodafone, went into JB and signed up for the $49 BYO and got my $200 voucher. Jumped online at cash rewards and found the Telstra deal, pasted the URL for the F&F deal in the same browser, waited for Telstra to initiate the chat, asked for the 5gb of extra data and gave him my order number and a confirmation email. Chat consultant said the phone will be delivered in 3-5 business days with stock available. Also, just got an email confirming my cash rewards!

      • I am very tempted to do this but am still cautious that knowing my luck something will go wrong. Were you able to do so with no issues at all? Did the chat consultant just upgrade the $49 BYO with no fees? If so, I might do the same today!

        I have never used Cash Rewards before. Doe the approval date of MARCH 2018 look right to you? What does that mean exactly?

    Please share your experience here as I am planning to switch the Missus' number from Voda to the $49 BYO plan and then to the F&F plan so I can get the S8.

    I have asked in 2 separate live Telstra chats and they confirmed I can switch from BYO to this without incurring any charges but something is telling me I may get screwed over somewhere.

    Please help us share any related info to assist us in this process.

      Transferred from Telstra to Voda pre paid - scored the $200 gift card.

      Went online via cash rewards … went to the telstra sign on deal

      when a new browser tab opened i copy and pasted the f&f deal in the browser .

      waited for chat to be initialed . asked for a 5GB bonus.

      Completed the F&F online form .. gave the confirmation number to the person on chat .

      Scored the cash rewards . now waiting for my phone

      • Hi Matt. I'm just wondering how can chat add 5GB if you haven't signed up? or perhaps chat gives you a code which you can enter during sign up and this code gives you an extra 5GB?

        It's funny, I was going to but I decided to call my local JB to double check. The bloke I spoke to said I had to have a friend/family at Telstra OR JB to do so. It was really odd, so I just did it via live chat. Couldn't be happier though.

        • In order to get the $200 gift card you have to port out to a non-Telstra service which will require you to pay the $200+ early termination fee. So I don't think you can take advantage of the $200 card.

    • I ordered yesterday and so far received emails to confirm my email and another one for Email billing activation and tell me to setup My Account. No ETA of delivery.

          I signed up in store and was denied the extra 5gb because I only have the one service on my account (I am an existing customer) so it seems there are varying reasons for them saying no.

        No names required for relo.s. I walked in to Telstra shop on Saturday and walked out 25 min later with new s8 and 20GB. Smooth as…..now just have to get my head around the s8 after having an s5

  • Just a FYI

    Those upgrading from JB HiFi you might want to read this. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an ETC on your next bill. Because the way I see it is that they end the current contract and add in the new new contract. End dating contracts automatically applies the ETC value to the account.

      Hope thats not the case. When I signed up for the 12mth BYO plan the guy at JB specifically said that the good thing with this plan is that I can upgrade to a 24 mth plan with a handset at a later date if i decide i want a new phone.

      That's only if you break contract to either cancel your service or switch provider. Recontracting on Telstra voids the ETC and you only need to repay the device payments, which is nil on a BYO plan. You'll see that information within your Telstra my account portal.

    • There's no ETC Upgrading BYO Plans through JB in most cases as we are generally similar to Telstra stores. If Telstra doesn't charge ETCs then normally there wouldn't be any. However, the port in + gift card, then recontract may - as it's against the T&Cs of the JB Offer (not that it should be done by a JB Store). (Edit: most cases)

  • Confirming sign up @ JB-Hi-Fi Garden City QLD - They had no Telstra branded stock left so had to pick up the phone from Loganholme store.
    Got the extra 5gb as well; its literally just a check box they have to click under Promotions & Offers.

      • No gift card. They have a memo I saw which states gift card not available with F&F offer written in big bold letters.

  • Got a standard sales chat prompt during purchase (had the 5GB targeted one earlier but disappeared) and she was happy to add the additional 5GB anyway. Did tell me initially it's 20GB in total across the contract, but then updated that to 20GB a month later in the conversation… chrome failed the purchase and had to switch to IE so forgot to re-do the cashback so missed out there :(

    As suggested in the comments I went to the Telstra website though Cashrewards and pasted the direct link to this deal, waited for the chat popup and simply said I was looking at the plan with the extra 5gb. I was told to stay in chat while I completed the order and give the order number at the end. I was a bit cheeky and asked if my loyalty credit of $20 per month could stay on the account but was told "it is not part of this plan" which I was expecting anyway.

    Not sure how long it takes for Cashrewards to show the transaction but hopefully it goes through correctly (it shows in cashreward's click history)

    Telstra Hay St Mall Perth just got a bunch of S8s in. I signed up with Emily and she added an extra 5gb on both plans as I'm an existing customer.

    Now I just have to find a case ☺️

  • Looks like they randomly process orders and dont go in order. Ordered early Friday evening and still havent got my shipping notification. Calling is useless as the voice commands here order update and it sends you an sms with the order tracking page and then hangs up with no other options and the tracking page cant even find my order. Online chat just said it was processed.

  • My order was unable to be processed due to no staff ID given. The lady we were talking with said that if she tried to put it through without it they could cancel it and charge the full device payment to the account holder… I'll try Jb Hi Fi tomorrow. Fingers crossed
