  • Good price, any idea how long it will last?

    • I bought a few over a year ago and haven't had any issues. The LEDs should last, just unsure about the wifi components.

I sort of get the feeling the above question was relating to the promotion time?

    • +2

I have one of the very first lifx kickstarter bulbs since it was sent to me and it still works a dream

    • +1

Thanks for letting me know - I've got one of the original LIFX bulbs still going strong.

Maxwellian is right, my question was about how long the promo goes for :D

    • New software has a 'dawn and dusk' feature, so mine universally turn on at dawn and have never failed to last until dusk.

  • Does it work with HomeKit yet?

    • +1

The newer bulbs (3rd gen LIFX and above) do. Click the "Expand" link on each product page to check, it will say "Apple HomeKit Compatible: Yes" or similar.

      • The old bulbs don't. Which is why I'm hesitant to buy any more LIFX bulbs, none of the old ones will be HomeKit compatible, so I may as well wait and make a clean break to another brand. The colors on LIFX bulbs are bright and deep though, very impressed with that. But HomeKit trumps all of that because not a single person in my house can be bothered using the LIFX app.

Look into Homebridge with the LIFX add-on.

All my Wemo, (old) LIFX, Milight devices have been Homekit compatible for a long time now using Homebridge. Colour change, intensity, Siri control, etc all work seemlessly as if genuinely compatible.

        • I only got my MacBook which I can’t leave st home. Do have another broken screen MacBook, but the cpu runs at half speed for some reason. Worried that the broken screen MacBook might crash a lot.

        • Woah I just set it up, very easy on Mac it turns out (just install one thing and copy and paste some command lines into terminal), and it works great. Even controlling the LIFX bulbs with the HomeKit app is way easier than the LIFX app. I should have done this ages ago.

    • All the bulbs on sale do now

  • +1

Their sale range is a bit confusing. The LIFX Mini for example seems pointless to get as it's only $4 cheaper (on sale) than the more powerful LIFX A19 at $60.

The LIFX Mini Day & Dusk seems like a good deal at $37 — personally I rarely ever use the colour features of smart bulbs, but being able to set the colour temperature and dimming is important.

You would only buy the mini if you needed to fit smaller lamps.

I agree that day/dusk looks like a great deal - but I bought the mini as it only seemed like a small step up (I'm buying only one lamp to add to my others)

Ive said it before but these seem very expensive compared to yeelight. I know LIFX globes are a lot brighter, but when i can buy 5 yeelights for the price of 1 LIFX…. P.S i own many of both types

    • +1

I think what makes them exxy is the integration with Apple which requires MFI

      • +2

LIFX bulbs have always been relatively expensive — they only added actual HomeKit support recently, in September 2017 (and only for the newer bulbs).

True for the guys in the apple ecosystem, but for the people who arent and for the people running HASS.IO, there are much cheaper options around now

    • +1

Thanks I was going to ask exactly that, are these worth the massive premium above Yeelight. I'm waiting for some yeelights to arrive from the gearbest deals. Seems from the comments these are only worth it if you need Apple integration. I don't use any Apple so will give these a miss.

      • A couple of years ago these were the best IMO, as all the brands were quite expensive, and you didnt need a bridge for LIFX, and i was big promoter of them. But with the price of the yeelight, it makes it feasible to change all your lamps in the house, if you wanted to, at a minimal cost. They are not the brightest of globes but just buy a few more!

    • There is discussion in other threads that yeelights aren't certified for use in Australia so therefore no insurance if house burns down. If this is true then a big reason to go LIFX.

      • +1

Has this "no insurance" thing ever been proven?

        • +2

Feel free to try to prove or disprove it :P

      • What if the fire accident is caused by grey imported phone?

  • I've been looking for a good quality, HomeKit enabled, non-bridge reliant Australian smart light for a while, and I believe this is the only one that exists. If I'm wrong, please link me, I still dont feel comfortable paying $50+ for a simple LED light. Thanks for the post though OP, ordered one of the Minis, will see how it does.

  • Their light strip lifx z is on special too:
    - LIFX Z 3m LED Starter Kit - 3 x 1m LED Starter Kit = $99.00 (RRP $159.99)

Cheaper if compared with Amazon, which only comes in 2m:
    - LIFX Z (Starter Kit) Wi-Fi Smart LED Light Strip (Base + 2 meters of strip) - US$70 (AU $92)
