The 'Becks' that Dan Murphy's sell is terrible stuff. It is locally brewed by Lion Nathan and is pale (quality wise, not colour) compared to the original European Becks.

Same goes for the Heineken too. I have never has a problem drinking any type of beer, but these I cannot. I am unsure what the rogue ingredient is but they use it in both Becks and Heineken and I've felt sick after drinking a couple of bottles of both.

When I visit bars and restuarants, I ask to see the bottle fist before buying. If it's Aussie brewed, i send it back.

    • Nice observation. I had no idea it was locally brewed as I bought some a few weeks back (from Cellarbrations) and it's great. I can relate though, Guiness brewed in Ireland is awesome, Guiness brewed in Aus is vile. Cheers.

      • I just checked the Becks I bought 2 weeks ago at $35 from Cellarbrations. This was brewed in Germany and imported.

Binge drinking being the serious problem it is in Australia liquor deals should be banned in ozbargain

    • Jeez. Cheer up dude.

    • Why should those of us who drink responsibly be punished? Go away.

As to the OP - if it's imported, it's a bargain. If it's the locally brewed stuff, it's swill and should be avoided. Drink responsibly and enjoy! :)

Too much of the beers that Dan Murphy sells are made in Australia. Was going to get some stella artois last week, and then looked and it was made in Aus..

The imported stuff is actually cheaper AND tastes a million times better. Dont think they had it in stock lasttime though.

    • I doubt we will be seeing any original stock of Stella, Heinekein or Becks at DM's soon. They obviously get a good markup on the Aussie brewed stuff.

Personally, I think it should be made much clearer on the box / bottle. In fact, if i was a brand manager of any of these European breweries, I would have a serious concern about the poor quality of the Aussie 'brewed under licence' versions. It's terrible stuff.

      • Agreed, don't try and charge us imported prices when the beers are brewed locally (Heinikin, Becks, Stella, Kronenberg…etc, check the label to see where it's brewed). It's the water that makes the beer's flavour unique.

  • Heineken kegs are imported :)

Still got a keg from the $19.90 deal a while back.

  • Thing is I thought Dan Murphys always sold the imported version as well. Now it seems they want to push the Aussie made at rip off prices.
