Looks like someone is trying to rebuild their image after the recent events.

    • screw "recent events" i'll take whoever's cheapest (and comfortablest)

    • +2

Although it is Rolls Royce not Qantas who is to blame

  • SO this is like a competition right? Buying a ticket and also puts you in the draw for tickets to one of those destinations

    • No the tickets are for sale AND if you buy a ticket you might win extra flights

  • +1

    Melb - La @ $1051 with Vaustralia - similar dates…
No real bargain based on that price - maybe IF you win your flights..Qantas Frequent Flyers might be able to benefit abit more..
Is their in flight entertainment as good/better than Vaustralia? Just did trip ( Bris - La @ $1020 ) and was very impressed with in flight entertainment…

So Pepsi is cheaper than Coke. And Parker pens are more expensive than Bic Biro's so maybe we should neg all parker pen posts ;)

V is always cheaper than Qantas, And you flew from Brisbane

And you rate this without even knowing is Qantas entertainment is better than V's??

Fair suck of the sav buddy.

Also when I flew Qantas a few months ago into LA they landed at 11am vs the V flight which landed in the late afternoon. Getting out of LAX in peak hour is the pits, for $31 less - no thanks, you'd lose that in Cab fares

And if you play this comparison you can fly United for around $950 …

Might be wise to read the guidelines on negative voting

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

      • Melb - La @ $1051 with Vaustralia - similar dates… as per my post.. yes I flew bris @ less $ but to be fair to op I compared Mel price.

so can you tell me if inflight ent is better… I DID ask.. I would not + a deal based on inflight alone…

My Vaustralia landed @ 8am… so is that make it a +…

Fly United in a 20+ year old plane.. no thanx..go for it ozpete.. I think I have been fair..

I listed lower price, same departure location, same dates?

        • Don't bother arguing mate, the first rule of this site is don't disagree with a moderators opinion, and if you do well good luck because at the very minimum it'll get you nowhere. IMO You made a very valid price comparison.

        • United's 747 fleet age is around 10 to 15 years old. Qantas are still using a 747-400 that entered into service in 1989 and most are early 90's vintage. Who cares about in flight entertainment. It's so over-rated. I'd rather fly United.

        • Do you realize that saying vaustralia is cheaper than qantas is like negging a Sony TV deal because a Samsung is cheaper?

You're meant to vote on the deal, not on the product, unless it's unsafe or similar. Read the guidelines.

Some people prefer Sony over Samsung. Maybe it's the design, color, warranty service, whatever. That's no reason to neg a Sony deal.

Likewise, some people prefer Qantas. They might prefer the service, the seat design, the flight times, the entertainment system, the food, etc. They could earn qantas points too.

READ the voting guidelines. This commenting area is where you're meant to tell everyone that other airlines are cheaper - which could be completely pointless if the flight times don't suit someone who's actually interested.

        • United's MEL-LAX service is not a direct flight, it stops at SYD to pick up passengers.

        • wiz187 so its ok to neg a deal like Parker pens because Bic Biros are cheaper??

Yep flights from Brissy land at 8am those from Melbourne at 17:00 unless its one of the days it goes through Brisbane, which adds 3 hours to the flight time. Point about not +ive a deal on inflight alone, isnt same as -ive a vote if you read the guidelines.

The point is that the price difference is only 4% is that in the scheme of things that big a difference to vote this down (leave it alone is also an option) Other difference for people is baggage allowance, and with USA a shopping haven,

          V = 2 pieces 32kg total Qantas 2 pieces 46Kg both

The point is that its hard to draw an equal comparison and this depends on personal needs. Just like you AND I not liking a 20 year old plane etc.

          Lazed

          • go away, you lost a few negative votes because you were too Lazed to read the guidelines, now you highjack every thread with your inane comments about mods.

Now instead of always criticising why not spend sometime and find a deal to share with others - that way you can contribute here. 500+ comments ZERO ZIP NOUGHT posts….

Then maybe you might enjoy others giving you negative votes after you spend time sharing.

And accusations like shareholders comment is libelous - you dont know this and neither do I Cool off and come back in 3 days after you think about things

  • V Australia fan here. I do SYD>LAX a few times a year, always with them.
only really had a slow experience getting out once, every other time im out within 15-20 mins. and that time is saved by not having to check in at TBIT to come home!

Just literally flew back from LA on QF, as always i'm happy with their service. Would take advantage of this deal if my wife wouldnt kill me. Hot tip, get a flight to Las Vegas for $50 or so each way on southwest (2 bags free) and do some shopping at the las vegas factory outlets. I literally filled a suitcase with clothes for less than $300

ooo qantas.. i dont know…. but it does seems like a fair deal if the plane dont end up blowing up bits and pieces again..

    • +1

      Don't go to far bro.

I'm also part of the Qantas haters (flight crews were so rude) but! I never hope that any of our airplane go down.

      • Hey! I fly qantas too! Well.. used to… but the amount of incidents for the past few months has got me thinking twice about flying with them. these sale fare are merely to fill up their seats so they dont lose money on each flight, not saying that is bad but i am just worried that a mid air incident may not be worth the savings.

of course i hope no planes go down regardless what airlines.

        • +1

I've always wondered if qantas really has more incidents than other airlines, or if they're just reported by the press more often as it's become sensational.

        • Exactly. My confidence in Qantas as a consumer has been shaken by the recent events. I also had a customer service issue with them which I wasn't all that happy with but that's another story. Having said that, let's hope we don't see any more mishaps on Qantas as it's becoming a far too familiar sight.

        • The A380 engine incident appears to be Rolls Royce fault, Qantas was unlucky to be the first airline to hit it. That really could have been a disaster for any airline.

But I really wonder about things like smoke in the cabin, etc. Not just Qantas but also the other domestic carriers. Are service standards falling or what? Unfortunately there are no good analyses out there, just press speculation and person-in-the-street feelings.

  • Saw this post and quickly checked to see there is also a domestic sale on as well. I'm sure I signed up for their red emails too and wasn't notified :< Is there any easy way to see what days offer the sale fares? Or just have to play around with the calendar? I'm only so excited because I get ripped being in regional QLD and have Qantas as my only option ;_;

I fly domestically with qantas, and I'm going to la with v, departing Melbourne cheaper than qantas, can I neg ozpete?!?

    • No. You can only compare prices for the same company. Even if another company offers a better product and service for less money. !?? Obviously some mods are qantas shareholders

      • +1

Why did you +ve the Bulla ice cream deal when home brand ice cream is cheaper? Is Bulla better to you? Premium house brands can offer a better product for less money.

        Or is "value" subjective?

Qantas might be better to other people. Better timing, frequent flier points, service, luggage allowance, whatever.

Would you neg a Samsung TV deal because a Vivo TV is a lot cheaper?
Would you neg a cheap Coke deal because home brand cola is cheaper?

        • but i question myself considering that recently qantas seems to have a non-stop "supply" of problems up their sleeves.

cheaper/budget airline seems to have less problems in comparison..however it does not warrant a -'ve vote as it may be a good deal for others..

  • Are the cabin staff on Qantas still grumpy?

  • There is no problem in saying that you can get a better deal elsewhere. This site is replete with product and price comparisons across brands and even across product types.

However, If another deal is better there is no valid reason to neg this deal. Basically, two deals can be positive even though one deal is better than another.

Neg the deal based on reasons why the deal in and of itself should be negged and NOT based on some other deal.
