Low-Midrange 50-55" TV for $1000

Hi all,

I find myself in a situation where I'm frustrated with my 40" Samsung Series 5 TV and want to upgrade. I don't care about bells and whistles, "Smart TV", Android etc. I hate motion smoothening / soap opera when overdone… My gripe with the current one is that it does awful jitter / jarring from my Android and LE boxes. It could be a LE issue but I need to upgrade anyway so that's beside the point. PS3 seems fine, but that's playing 25fps PAL and not 23.x film. Some people see it, some don't, but it sure annoys the hell out of me. Now I don't know much about TVs nowdays, I don't need a 200Hz FPS monster, but just something that is of good value and provides at least the following:

  • 3x HDMI, min 1080p
  • 1x optical SPDIF / 1x HDMI with ARC, prefer former
  • RCA for the PS2

Bare minimums, right? What I want is the best quality panel in the price range, I'm even considering displays without tuners as we don't watch aerial TV but they usually fall short on connectivity.

I've been trawling through pages and pages of reviews/comments/etc but I simply don't have the time to go through all of it and "go see it for yourself" … "if you can find it".

I've had my eye on the Hisense 50n7. Something like that would suit me well I think. Could you please comment on that and/or any alternatives in the price range with similar specs that isn't going to be a complete turd.

Thanks heaps!

I believe the 55" of the N7 (which is an excellent choice) is ~$950 today only at TGG, via their 20% off promo instore or online. DOn't think you'll do any better than that within your parameters. :-)

Ah confusing response ….thanks with a question mark? and you're trying not to but you posted up asking for recommendations. head scratch Glad I made the time to respond. :-/

        • Sorry, no. I appreciate your response and take value in it. The "Thanks?" Was directed at you, in jest, recommending me to buy the damn thing (which seems great value) for money I don't want to spend but will need to eventually anyway.

Random people negging the comment is… Well OzB standards I suppose. Neg away.

I appreciate your comment, sorry if it didn't come out the right way mate.

        • @decr: I appreciate the clarification - it is very easy for things to be misconstrued when in writing online from total strangers. Anyway no harm done - hope you got things resolved. :-)

FWIW the 55N7 is apparently available for just over $900 via Bing Lee's Ebay store - even better buying. :-)

        • @Nikko: I saw that… Damn. The post says $40 delivery but doesn't seem it's available. Looks like I'm stuck with TGG and such :/
