    • Canberra optus 4g coverage sux goat balls.

    • You'll definitely usually have coverage around canberra, but you can also expect the data rates to be terribly slow around civic, belco and woden… "Quantity rather than quality" is the theme for pretty much every telco in ACT - even Telstra isn't that good (I frequently find myself sitting on 2 bars rather than 5, even in eye shot of Telstra Tower)

    • Thought I should weigh in. Optus is absolutely fine in Canberra, I don't know why they are talking about "Tuggeranong'not that great" or "I don't get full bars"… I'm on my phone right now, in Tuggeranong on optus 4G, I've got 3 bars but the amount of bars you're phone displays makes no difference. I just did a speed test and it was between 40-60Mb/s down. "It's not good in civic"… What? Do you even live here? You can consistently get close to 100 down in civic. The only time ever, ever, that I have dropped down to H+ or ran out was on one specific road to Belcompton or driving down the Clyde to the south coast.
Optus is fine, been with them for a year now.

Can someone show me a screenshot or link? Can't seem to find the deal on optus website at all. Can only see 7 plus.

    • Same here

      • Yes and when I called them to check this deal they simply left me waiting for like 30min and then hung up on me.
I'm chatting with online now but with no reference from their website it seemed no luck.

        • Keep finding reps online because a lot of them seem to have no idea about it, but a lot also know (I can confirm because I got this deal).

I'd recommend that you keep connecting to online chat until you find a rep that knows

      • Walked into Optus store and they knew all about it

  • +1

Anyone can confirm the phone is non-lease or lease?

  • I've been on "Please wait while we connect you to one of our sales consultants" for the past 10 minutes…

  • What the fork man. I pulled the trigger too early.
2years later I will wait until the day before Christmas to sign the iPhone 12.

  • very tempting. would you get further 10% Uni discount on this?

    • I think so, worth the try.

      • Asked, no further discounts :(

  • Chat is offline now.

  • Damn you Optus! Signed up for the iPhone 8 $60 a week ago!

    • +1

      Me too..
I called them, they told me that if I didn't open the box of the iphne 8, you can return it to oputs and ugprade to the new plan. But need to contact optus sales support team first….The thing is optus support sales team is not working on weekend..

I'll try on next Monday and let's wait

It’s too late for me. Go on without me, I won’t make it. Live on. But please, tell my family that I am ok now, b/c at least it’s a newer device.

        • No, but actually it doesn’t annoy me that much because I can upgrade in a year anyway, and, well, I have to tell myself that.

  • FKN TELSTRA BETTER NOT DO THE PIXEL 2 XL NOW! i signed up already with 2 mobiles!

  • is this a lease phone or buy?

with lease, you have to return the phone back to Optus after 2 years in working condition…

  • Can't see it anywhere on the website mate,am I missing something here.

Can some one please help and point me to right direction for this deal, I am unable to see any plan which says it had 20 gb inclusions.

  • Can someone pleas outline the steps on getting this deal?
Can someone please confirm if this is lease and you have to return the handset back after 2 years?

    • if is the same as the $60 deal it's outright (so You keep after two years). Best way to get it is to chat to them, so far nobody has confirmed being able to get it though….

      • +2

I can confirm that I did get it and it is outright. 0 problems, the guy knew straight away what he was saying

          @fozzie:

Thanks, I'm more of a samsung guy myself, it's for my dad. His current plan is running out and he needed a new deal + he wanted an iphone 8 plus so this was perfect.

        • @BarginGrabber:
Very lucky dad, with you finding these bargains :)

    • +1

      Late response but…

      1. Go to online chat —> Personal —> Sales

      2. Tell them that you want the iphone 8 plus $64/month plan

2b. If they say that they can't find it then you'll have to repeat those steps because some of the reps seem to have no idea and just try to find a new rep that knows (Jack G was really good for me) MAYBE this image will help prove it : https://gyazo.com/0e384d863b8a2c39a7c567a2cbea5b40 (Just tell them your friend sent you this image)

      1. They will ask you what colour you want, if you are new or want to port and if you agree to the terms.

      2. Fill out all your details, give them a delivery date

      3. It's all set and it takes 2-3 business days to arrive, enjoy your new phone :)

      • Thank you!

  • Is telstra doing price match with optus?

    • +2

No, people have tried but they are not

  • -2

Chatting to Optus now but it's no good unless you want to either a) change your number or b) port out and then port back in. F. Optus.

    • +1

I got the same response. Still, porting out isn't a massive deal, though it might take a little while on a weekend followed by Xmas.
      Amazing deal otherwise!

      • -2

So what would my option be? Buy $2 telstra sim, port number to it. Wait for number to go through and then contact Optus? In your opinion what would happen if the deal expires in the meantime? I would have lost my current plan with Optus, right?

        • +1

Well the deal is valid till early Jan, so I guess worst case is you'll have to wait for new phone stocks?

        • +1

@Bunnycat:I asked on that chat when the deal expired and was told flat out 'Until it is withdrawn by Optus.'

    • I have chatted to Optus via online portal and they have said I need to go instore to get this offer. It has been recorded on my account. I need to go to the shops today, so will try but not holding my breath as I've had this happen before where the instore sales person says the offer via online chat isn't right.

      • I wasn't told that the offer wasn't right just that I'm not eligible for it…

        Use that as you will.

      • I rang a physical store and was advised it was online only.

      • +2

The guy you got didn't know what he was saying because I got the deal through online chat without any problems.

I'd recommend keep finding new reps until you get one that knows what they are doing.

Do people not care about this?

Apple has admitted to intentionally slowing down iPhones as they get older, without notifying customers.

Biggest news since Samsung's exploding batteries, although may knew this already, but finally they admit it.

  • +15

Dont sign with Optus guys. I signed with Optus two weeks ago for the Iphone 8, I havent got my phone yet + the number I chose with Optus is still not activated. Spoke to friendly HN staffs so many times, although they worked hard to contact to Optus, BUT NO LUCK. I had rang Optus and HN for more than 20 times during this period time, each time the answer was your sim would be activated within 24 hours but never THIS NEVER HAPPENED. The Optus state manager of VIC contacted me on this thursday and PROMISED ME for another month free + activation within 24 hours, still this was not happened. I try to rang Troy the state manager yesterday and today, he never picked the phone.

Meh, I was a Optus customer for more than 10 years, and this time i tried to use my Optus prepaid (just finished contract with Optus and port to Prepaid) to sign the plan, unfortunately they said due to technical issues it was not allowed them to do, OK then, so I had to pick up a new number. However I never expected this awful customer service, signed the contract, no handset, no activated service for 2 weeks so far. I just told HN and Troy I just want to cancel the plan, ridiculous!!

    • +8

I’m on the same boat, almost 2 weeks and the number has not been ported from pre to post paid.

      • +1

We are different, mine was a brand new number, ever HN staff was frustrated as usually it took 15 min to activate a number. I had to used the prepaid for now which is not supposed to.

        • +3

What I mean is that activating Optus services(no matter if new or old) at the moment takes forever.I keep contacting live chat every 48hours and they keep asking me to wait another 24/48 hours! last night they said live chat reps have no access to temporary online orders records and they asked me to call 1300929949(Optus advises waiting time more than 90minutes and your call may not be answered!!!) Pathetic!

        • +2

@GregFiona: Should just cancel it and sign JB + Telstra

        • +4

@rartelif: We'd had enough of Optus and their marketing calls. The price of their plans are favourable, but the customer service is the worst of any telco I have ever been with. I just went through the TIO and got my contracts cancelled and switched to the JB Telstra plan. Took me minutes to do at JB HiFi on the Friday before Christmas. Excellent service.

        • +1

@GregFiona: your call may not be answered is the best, horrible company!!!

      • Mate you wont get the port. I had the iPhone 7+ never ported and they said its too late too. So im stuck with new number. Just a heads up.

        • Not sure if you are replying to my comment but I still have my own number, I haven’t changed no. and my order has been processed(at least that’s what I was told so far)

    • +2

I had exactly the same customer service for my i8 deal but it was from their useless live chat. I recontracted and told the operator to put a new address for the order, they agreed and apparently did it, no change on the order at all, didn’t even get told that’s what happened so I had to investigate it myself. Then on the second delivery they sent the wrong coloured phone but I didn’t even bother with that. Definitely going to call retention to get them to give me a credit or something for the screw around.

      • +2

Agree, the live chat was terrible, I was live chatting 10pm oneday, the guy was really slow and confused, he spent almost 45 min to tell me that the number I told him was not supposed mine as it was not under my name…I copyed the chat history and sent to Optus. Just waste of time.

        • +3

Honestly I can’t believe that they force you to use their shitty live chat if it doesn’t even work!! Never been annoyed at a telco before but this has tipped me over the edge and feel like going to the TIO and saying something, utterly useless. Recontracted for Mum on the Pixel 2 Deal In minutes in store, was the easiest process ever and can’t see why Optus can’t do the same bloody thing.

        • +2

@doweyy: I was about to contact TIO, was too busy last couple of days, now I just want to cancel the plan, but I am not willing to hand in the EFTPOS Card as they wasted me too much time.

        • +1

          @rartelif:

That’s honestly worth a TIO discussion, because that has been a massive hassle and if that was me, I’d try and get Optus to fork out the $200 to pay to HN for that stuff around..

        • @rartelif:

Use the card then return it

    • I have had the same horrible experience with Optus. Purchased 2 IPhones on $59 plan on 11/12. Almost two weeks later no phones and they somehow cancelled one of my services with my current provider.

So I have no service over Xmas/ New Year, no phones and wasted countless hours on the phone to the absoulte horrible and incabaple staff at optus.

They say it was dispatched on Friday to StarTrack which Inwont receive until late next week. Absoulte complete f’up and horrible experience.

    • Was a breeze for me :)

    • I literally received my phone the next day. Ordered online tho, not through Harvey Norman.

  • +2

Ok so I've got a dilemma

I recently signed up to the optus $59 plan at Harvey Norman - I got the iPhone 8

I HAVEN'T opened the phone yet and it's still in the deal box ..with receipt from HN etc

anyone think I'd be able to 'upgrade' my plan - return the 8 and possibly get the plus?

    • Yup - should be able to return it if it's still sealed then sign up for the iPhone 8 Plus contract.

    • +1

You need to return $200 gift card too.

      • If the phone were delivered direct to you and not to HN. How would they know if you returned the Phones to Optus?

      • sorry can you tell me where's this $200 gift card deal come from? Optus? Thanks

        • The gift card was from Harvey Norman. The deal was 3 weeks ago and lasted for 1 week.

    • The online chat said you can return it. But you need to contact sales support team who are not working today…

      • Nice, when do you think they will be working next?

    • Same situation here, just got it yesterday after two weeks and there was no call even Harvey Norman got the phone back in stock. I had to call them. Finger crossed. Lol. Don’t think it’s better if we can “upgrade” to 8 plus without returning back $200 gift card. Dilemma. What a war between carriers and yes optus big horn blower

  • We're sorry but this offer has been really popular and we’re now out of stock on some of the phones that were on offer. We’ve ordered more but we’re not yet sure when we’ll get particular models and colours of each of those phones. If you’re happy to wait for a while for the phone you wanted, we can put you on a waitlist and contact you when it’s available –you can still get the phone at this price…

Only for new numbers. So port & re-port. May have to wait a while

  • +1

Got through but was told for new customers only

  • +1

Previous iPhone 8 deal was better when considering the $200 gift card.

    • Maybe they'll bring it back for this deal too

  • Got this deal last week instore for the wife. She was with Aldi mobile. 10 minutes with the sales rep and it was all sorted.

  • +4

I strongly recommend against going with Optus. The terrible customer service and the incessant marketing calls do not make up for saving a few dollars. Read some of the replies about the issues people have already had and that is before they have even received their phones!

    • -1

Telstra and virgin are just as bad. Network wise Telstra have plenty of dead spots from home to work and all around the CBd.

      • I'm not talking about coverage. I was not unhappy with this, or the price of their offerings, but if there were any issues they were a major drag to deal with, as was trying to sign up for specific plans.

  • I ordered the $59 deal for the iPhone 8 last week but had some issues so it was due to be sent out next week, spoke via chat and called Optus to have it changed to this deal instead so the request has been put through and will be done via the support team who come back on Tuesday. If you're having issues with the online chat, I suggest you call their online sales chat team on 1300929949

  • Would be all sweeter with 200$ hn card

  • again can people who wish to trade up can they upgrade?

    • Not with an existing Optus number if that's what you mean.

  • +2

You can just walk in store and have it done, i got one yesterday due to high demand so they out of iPhone 8 hence kicked in this deal in their system

  • +6

Shocking customer service… this organisation is terrible… only reason why one of my sims is with them is for $20 broadband discount even then you can get $20 off other telco deals with more data eg. Kogan…

Optus will not allow existing customers upgrade their plans which is pointless in retaining customers - loyal customers…

There is no such thing as loyalty in this organisation.

    • +1

Valuing Loyalty is dead in this modern world. All the managements only care about what the wall street wants to see. That is, business growth story. This is how they get paid.

Just went to store and got 8plus in hand. Easy done it through in store.
