Easy to think that given the glut of Google Home Mini posts, but not a duplicate

  • +5

I don't think there is any availability issue? You can get it delivered for free via the $74 Harvey Norman deal with the free Shipster trial and save $4 on the product itself.

Unless you are going to get OW to price beat HN in store, will come to $70.30 that way.

    • +2

This deal is far more convenient for me. I'd spend significantly more driving for a couple of hours just to reach TGG. Compared to a 10min trip to OW.

Tiny prices differences really don't matter sometimes.

      • +2

That deal is for Harvey Norman. Why don't you get it delivered for free from Harvey Norman for $4 less and not drive anywhere?

        • +2

Man don't I look stupid now?

        • +1

@Clear: not as stupid as me.

        • +1

          @Clear:
You look more like there have been way too many Google Home Mini deals lately and it's hard to keep track of them all.

        • @Miss B: Yup you're on the money.

        • @Clear: Now I am wondering if the “eBay - 10% Off Everything When you Spend $75+“ deal that crazynic posted earlier today (code: NEW10) … 2 - 5 January, is the reason it is $74 and not $75 …

    • You're right - for all the telemetry they will receive and monetize, Google should be giving these away.

  • And here I was thinking that everyone got two for $8 delivered from GG

    • +1

      Two would be an understatement.

    • +1

      Plus the cancellation email.

      • I didnt get the cancelation email.

        • Spam filter. doh!!

  • +7

Didn't you hear? GG's are actually throwing these at you as you leave their stores.

    • Bwhahahahahahaahahaha.

    • +1

i was doing up my shoes laces so they missed me when they were throwing them at customers .

they also had a bbq in the car park TGG for the C&C customers and were also offering unicorn meat sausages to go with the free google minis .

      • Dang it! I am always too late to the party.

  • I got some from OW this morning for $70.30 (price matched)

  • +1

Cheers, just ordered the black twin pack. None of my local stores had them in stock, delivery is free.

    • +23

Why exactly is this a poor effort by the OP? Seems a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

    • +28

That’s rich coming from someone with 0 posts

    • +4

If you contributed more and didn't bag out the OP for silly reasons, maybe people would start to take you seriously on this site.

      • -1

Not here to argue, but my reasons were valid at the time. They were not "silly". OP has since updated his post so my neg has been revoked.

It is not my ambition to be taken so seriously on this site. Nor did I sign up to this site to "contribute". I just browse this site and will put in my 2c from time to time (required for negs). Maybe you should take a look at your own post to see how quick you were to jump the gun on a fellow user.

        • If a comment neg-voting a deal post shows a balance of 8 negs then that neg-vote is revoked. Nothing to do with how OP amends title or description.

  • wonder if this will be like lego and people will try and resell on gumtree after the specials finish .

the apple users must be wondering what all the fuss is about ….

    • Good luck making any money off these things. They will be worth next to nothing in a few more months.

      • How come?

      • Google Home is your next Amazon Orpheus.

        • What?

        • +1

Difference is, Google home can be turned off….

    • +1

They’re buying them too, no HomePod yet

      • homepod is targeted at also providing high quality sound reproduction ( 7 tweeters, custom woofer etc) besides the siri interface and home automation hence predicted $300 price tag, but people pay more than that for sonos so i can imagine the apple users hanging back for that.

the google home is more just a voice portal rather than designed for high quality audio also.

        • Google Home Max is targeted at HomePod though.

    • I can see on eBay, some users selling it for $50 for 1 GHM and another user having it on Auction and highest bid now is already at $38 with few days left I believe. Boggle my mind.

  • -6

Bought 2 from HN for $74.

  • +2

    Thanks for posting OP.

  • i haven't been able to find one in WA…. anybody had any luck?

    • +1

I paid $78 at Officeworks itself in cannington

  • This GOOGLE Home Mini - Charcoal is temporarily unavailable due to stock being sold out. More stock will arrive soon so please check back again in the future is what it says on the GG site now so this is as cheap as it gets.

  • +1

Without home automation. I find this to be a bit of a gimmick. It looks really nice, but it feels like a hollywood movie plot, thinking along the lines of Kingsman part 1, when they were giving out free sim cards to everyone, and then screwing them up completely.

    • Reminds me of a Doctor Who episode whereby an alien was "feeding" on humans, through B&W televisions. At a time when televisions were the in thing and most were watching the Queen's coronation. 😲😨😵

    • +1

it is a gimmick …. for AI and voice recognition for cloud services they sell, apple via siri is currently getting over 4 x as many voice requests as google does so they need to get the numbers up to refine their system and sell their voice recognition services.

amazon is the leader it seems with voice requests via alexia, probabaly because you need alexia at home where you are more likely to ask things rather than a phone in a public place surrounded by people “ ok google what is the best thrush treatment”.

the apple homepod should set a new level of expectation to what these home portals provide eg high quality audio and a replacement for bluetooth speakers besides voice portal and home automation.

Microsoft is also working with some manufacturers for cortona enabled speakers.

so yes it will interesting 2018 with amazon and their voice portal which they sell in the USA already and apple entering the market also.

  • Mini definitely needs an actual off button as does the home, microphone isn't the best for voice alone

    • I thought GHM has the improved version of microphone compared to GH? Happy to be corrected.

    • Power button is in the middle underneath, in case you were looking for this (:

      • Couldn't you also disconnect the power cable too?

  • Anyone in Town Hall today want to half at Office Work Pitt St? Ping me.

  • Has anyone seen these on sale for just one?

    • Only RRP from what I know, could be wrong. The promotional price only applies to 2 or more.

    • +1

They were around $55 last month; some shops were selling theirs as low as $48

  • Hi guys, I bought one from officeworks glebe, they have few available over the counter.. Paid 70.30 after price match (HN)

  • Interested in getting one.. i am apple user.. i'm confused on what benefits/features its going to provide me with (other than random 'hey google whats the weather today')

  • Don’t know about the better availability. North Sydney completely out of stock including the warehouse I was told (so they can’t be ordered). The lady managed to name just one store in the CBD that has stock. A bit disappointing.

  • +1

Officeworks have now reduced their price online to $74

    • So what happens to those paid $78?

      • I guess you can cancel/return & re-buy at $74 if you think it's worth $4

    • Out of stock for online purchase, in-store only :(

  • Thanks - hopefully OP can update. $74 online delivered. Means price-match completely out now, but don't have to worry about stock.

  • I ordered mine yesterday at 2pm and it just got delivered. I didn't expect to get it till Wednesday earliest.

  • So tempted. But I don't really know why i need this. And might be worthless in a few months going by how these retailers are trying to sell them

    • +1

I don't think it's something ppl really need as such, but it can be fun and convenient, especially for home automation. Eg assuming you're in Google's ecosystem, if you took a photo of a magpie swooping your sister Chloe and wanted to show your friends, you could simply say "hey google show pictures of chloe magpie on tv". Within about a second, GH has identified your voice to who you are (so it knows who's photos to access, assuming you've given it permission), scanned your million photos for ones containing both a bird that looks like a magpie and a person who's face looks like Chloe, switches your TV source to the Chromecast, and starts showing a slideshow of the matching photos on TV.

All these steps can be done manually, but it can be more fun, convenient and way quicker to just say it and let GH do all the hard work.

Whether it becomes worthless or not might depend on how interested you are in home automation, and whether new features get added quick enough that suit and keep the product relevant to you. Eg a recent addition to GH I use was to be able to stack more than one command, like "hey google do this and do that", instead of "hey google do this….. <wait for acknowledgement> hey google do that". But a recent addition that was of no use to me was to be able to search your photos for a particular pet dog by name, in the same way you can search for ppl by name.

      • +1

Yeah I can see how it will be fun for some people. Thanks for the feedback. I live in a tiny apartment though, a small studio actually, and going to have more Apple devices than Android. Plus no smart tv or Chromecast. So I think I'm probably gonna struggle to get the max out of this. Not that it's a useless device, but it's probably not for me. Having said that the OzBargainer in me is still bloody tempted lol.

        • +1

I’m in the same boat: small apartment full of Apple devices but I still got one because as a subsidised Bluetooth speaker with Google Assistant on it, it is cheap as chips (for the quality of the speaker ie. miles better than anything you can find for $30-40).

  • Thank you Officeworks. You’ve managed to pissed me off.

    • 1st you send me 1 item when I ordered 2 pk
    • 2nd you tell me there’s stock at a store and I can go there to get it exchanged
    • 3rd your store staff said they can’t find it when the computer states there’s 7 in stock. (If you really bothered to look)
    • 4th your call centre said it can be delivered tomorrow not today, even when I called earlier- they said “if put through by 11am, it can be delivered the same day”. I called @ 10:30am.
    • 5th I called again to get a refund and you say I can’t do that. I need to accept the package and then return it in stores or have another driver come pick it up. (Huh waste another day for your incompetence?)

    Thank you Officeworks

    • That sucks. I got screwed over too - they delivered someone else's package to me. Said it was a mistake and would re-ship. Four days later I called up and they said 'no stock to re-ship sorry forgot to let you know'..

      • Dang, yours sounded even worse

  • Stock at WA stores now. Fremantle and O'Connor….

  • Do we know if there's any expiry date on this promotional price?
