I was in one of these New years day, plenty of room with my partner and had those floating beer shape things from cotton on was a good day

    • +33

No better way to spend a day than drinking half a slab of beer and not having to get up to go to the toilet.

      • +6

Plus you get that sudden rush of warmness for 10 seconds

        • +2

The partner is there only so you can accuse someone else of the shame…

        • +1

          Just like a spa :)

    • -2

Drain water and add coconut oil.

    • +8

Maybe safest to put it in your lock-up garage, looks like it will fit in a single car space.

    • What if I only put 30cm deep of water in it ?

      • Technically the law is if it is capable of holding more than 30cm

    • -1

it has a half a meter side wall height so should satisfy council safety requirements

  • it is good pool. i have a small leak somewhere but unable to locate it. anyone here knows best way to fix?

    • +16

Apply some soapy water to the outside. If there’s a leak, you should see it bubble. Use the repair patch to seal

      • +2

        User name checks out.

Must be related to Russel Coight.

      • +1

If that fails to locate the leak, you can also take the inflatable pool and rotate it around in a bigger pool to find the bubbles.

        • +1

But what if the bigger pool has a leak too?

        • +4

        • @Gimli: or the juice from a can of beetroot, that's how real pool men do it, side tip: don't change water and you will have a kid scaring glow.

    • +5

Go to Bunnings and buy a new one for $15. Not worth the headache. Yes yes very wasteful and there's people starving in the Sudan, so sue me for living in the First World.

Making it a several hundred dollar purchase. Beware the council drones.

    • +10

      Not drones . Neighbours .

      • Yep, neighbour dobbed on us.

      • Neighbors with drones

    • +4

And if you fill it with jelly or mud and a couple of scantily clad people you'd probably breach a different set of town planning laws.

    • +1

Council dont use drones, they use planes to do aerial photos (nearmap)

      • +2

        Drones sounds better though.

      • City of Port Phillip in Melbourne use drones

  • +9

Also, you can buy plastic balls and make it a ball pit! 5 bucks a bag (of 100) at kmart. You'd probably need 5 bags for this one or more

    • +8

More like 50 bags. 5 bags might not even be enough to cover the base

    • Pretty good estimate IMO. I used one of the calculators on the web and roughly you need around 7 bags based on 6.5cm per ball. Of course, it's a guestimate as we don't know the internal dimensions. but definitely not 50 bags.

      • Sound about right as I have the kmart one and that needs about 4 bags.

    • +1

Assuming the balls float, have a layer of balls floating atop the surface water pf pool, then if council planes fly over, it will look like a ballpit from above

      • +1

It will also help prevent the water from heating up as much if it's in the sun, so not a terrible idea.

  • Slightly smaller one at Kmart for $19. Catch price is inflated - actually, where is the link?

    http://www.kmart.com.au/product/2-ring-family-pool/1635882

      • Thanks - just found it. 👍🏻

I wonder if there is any difference in quality between the Bestway brand and the Kmart brand (Active & Co)?

        • Quality probably the same. Most likely from the same factory in China however I’ve notived in summer, stock at Kmart is generally impossible to find for inflatable pools.

Did a search for that Kmart pool for nearest stock and only one store came up that’s 40km away from me with a red asterisk to call to confirm stock (which generally means there’s none left).

        • Must be the same thing. They have used the same picture (although the Bunnings picture has the base photo shopped to look smooth).

Update. Both 450L but the Bunnnigs one has bigger dimensions. Work that out?

        • @The General:

          Kmart one is smaller

          Kmart 2m (L) x 50cm (H) x 1.5m (W)
          Bestway 2.62m x 51cm x 1.75m

        • Bestway is 778L to 80%

    • Yep I had of these, I wouldn’t have paid anywhere near $50.

    • +1

      Pardon the pun

    • Inflated? How would they ship it?

  • Technically it’s not sold by Catch, so it’s no wonder the price isn’t good. Catch also has a marketplace for other sellers now.

  • This has always been cheap at bunnings

    • Did an archive search on the bunnings website. This was $25 so has dropped by $10 making it a 40% saving

      • We got from bunnings last xmas for similar price as above

    • +2

Not always, even cheaper than using my discount card. If I was to swipe my card today with this price, I would pay $18.57. So I'm better off going in as a 'customer'

      • Even if you scanned your TM card you'd still get the promo price.

  • You can even put this inside of a house, $15 is def a bargain

    • +2

Finally I can have a Tony Montana loungeroom!

      • We just have a budget version of that, but still….better than nothing haha

  • +1

+1 on the garage or under cover. It will take no time at all to get burnt playing around in something like this.

  • how does it inflate?

    • +11

      with air

    • +2

I used a hair dryer on cool to inflate it for the most part then my breath using one way valve to pressurise it.

    • Buy a high volume / low pressure electric pump. About $20.

  • This is 510mm high. There is a law that you need to have an inflatable pool fenced if it's 300mm or higher.

So you would need to add the cost of a pool fencing to the price. You can't just take this home and inflate it without a fence around it thinking all is well.

    • +1

Man that sucks. Don't even have anyone under 18 in my house. I don't get what the council wants to cover .. risk the neighbor's infant's gonna break into my backyard to use this pool?

      • -2

Yes that's exactly what. Stop infants getting into the pool drowning. Some one might accidentally leave a backyard gate open.

        • +6

I would imagine most people's backyards are pretty hard for the average 5 year old to break into though. The front yard I can understand, but the backyard would require forced trespassing just to get into the backyard =/. If they're able to get past the yard fence, a pool fence wouldn't make a difference.

        • +1

I don't see fences around beaches

      • Pretty much, yes. The council guy actually said it's in case some kid enters my property when I'm not supervising.

    • +5

If council come and demand a fence, you just deflate it. The chances of council coming while it is inflated is nil if you only inflate it on days you use it.

      • Do you know if the council could issue fines though? Say if my dck 2-story neighbor takes photos over the fence.

        • Going by this. Yes there are fines issued. Well this is at least for NSW where the fine is maximum of $5500. And there are $550 on the spot fines issued by council workers. So your $15 pool can suddenly become $5500 if caught by the council breaching the pool fence law.

          http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/higher-fines-for-pool-safety-breac…

        • +2

Call council and ask bro. Give a fake name and and another house on your street to be on the safe side.

        • @hollykryten: Thanks for the help. Damn, I didn't realize, but looks same fines as Victoria =(.
Pessimistic, but I actually wouldn't put it past one of my neighbors to anonymously (even though I know it's them) dob me in given the chance … If I try setting this up outdoors it'll be under the $20 gazebos from the earlier bunnings deal.

        • @Diji1: lol will do on Monday

        • @LymeLychee: My 'concerned' neighbour dobbed on ours.

        • @Diji1:
or a REAL name, and address of somebody you dislike

    • +7

Who has ever actually known anyone who's been fined for an unfenced blow up pool used for a single day in 42 degree weather. If you are legitimately worried by this, take off your tinfoil hat, take your paranoia meds and get a grip. Use some common sense (like not setting one up around toddlers) and come out of your panic room. I will take this home, inflate it, fenceless, and not just think all is well, but everything is bloody fantastic. The people of the world are not working against you and your $15 blow up pool. Quite frankly if you have random toddlers walking into your house or backyard at any given time you have a special set of problems that you need to address before even thinking about a pool of any kind.

      • I no sone one who had a $60 blow up pool in back yard was reported to council got told fencing petmit register it or take it down the fine would have been over 1000 bucks in his area

        • +2

Thats right, they didn't come in with $550 on the spot fines or with guns drawn, they simply asked the person to take it down or fence it. Exactly what you would expect to happen. I have a spa, I've been visited by inspectors 3 times in 30 years. They aren't out in droves like parking inspectors. The last guy that come over told us the regs had changed slightly, we needed to move a tap higher and add an extra string of wire to the fence down the bottom. He had a cup of coffee with me while we talked it over. No fines and I don't believe I'm on the CIA's blacklist for pool violations and awaiting transfer to Guantanamo.

        • +1

          @Dontreadthis:
I bet Guantanamo has one of these for the waterboarding.

        • @VicKiwi: I hope its fenced!

        • +2

          @Dontreadthis:
You'd hope so, I bet they regularly have toddlers breaking in and trying to go swimming.

        • +1

@Dontreadthis: Jail bars at Guantanamo should meet pool fencing regulations

        • +1

@ozzpete: We'll know for sure after Blow-up Pool Team 6 do their next daily inspection.

      • You are so wrong.
I had a council guy knock on the door 2 days after putting up the inflatable pool.
Said he would be back to check it had been emptied at 5pm, or else infringement would be issued.
He said over summer he makes several of these house calls every day, often to uni students.

Pissed me off for a long time.

        • +1

It's understandable that it should be fenced if it's left unattended for multiple days. Only leave it inflated and filled for the hour or so you plan to swim in it and watch over it the whole time and you won't have an issue.

        • +1

@xmail: Too much water to be draining and refilling. Ours was bigger than this one.

        • @bmerigan:
Then it's not really comparable is it.

        • +1

You just totally supported my point. No on-the-spot fine issued, just a request to take down the pool. Also how unlikely it is to even have an inspector knock at your door. "Several house calls a day" - So in a suburb of say, 10,000 to 100,000, he only makes several a day? So your chances of having an inspection on any given day are about as good as being injured by a toilet (1 in 10,000), winning an oscar (1 in 11,500), finding a four leaf clover (1 in 10,000) or maybe even being struck and killed by lightening (1 in 174,426).

In your case it sounds like someone dobbed you in. Unless it was somewhere in full view of the street. Its just tough luck, but the worst that happened was you had to empty it, no harm done. Also as per my original post, I'm just talking about buying a $15 pool and cooling off for a day, not leaving it erected for a week.

    • +1

It is ok, just cut it down to size with a bread knife to 299nm, problem solved!

    • Wowee, fun police are here.

  • +1

Sold out at Caroline Springs Bunnings Vic.

  • Are there any laws preventing me from putting one on my balcony?

    • +23

      Yes, Darwin's law.

    • Heh, yeah, find out the weight the balcony is rated to hold, each litre of water is 1KG.

      • -1

@Diji: water weighs 1kg sometimes, namely at STP. At other times it varies, especially when experimental conditions break down, get compromised…

For example, full of babes, the mood could get considerably lighter.

    • Jeez Danny… please don't do this. Come on mate, commonsense.

  • +1

There was one left at Sunshine Bunnings, Vic.

  • +3

As for the pool fence, please.
