Original Xiaomi Mi Home Smart WiFi Socket - White
Limited to first 100 stock, 1 per account.

I've been waiting for the non-Zigbee version to show up for a while.
Got annoyed waiting so hit up the GB rep and they gave me this code.

Difference to Zigbee version:
Pros
* Cheaper
* Doesn't require Zigbee hub

Cons
* Doesn't monitor energy usage

The Sonoff is still going for around $13 AUD for those who want something that works directly with Google Home:

    • Thanks got one for $12.75

Edit: ordered second one one after 5 minutes.

Thanks Got 2 Sonoff and 2 Xiaomi.

    • +1

I prefer the Sonoff becuase of the physical switch.

      • As well as Google Home Assistant

        • And Amazon Echo

      • This has a physical button as well?

        • Oh I must have been looking at an old version. They don't list it on the the features but yeah I see it now in the pics.

      • Xiaoami has a physical switch as well, only issue is cant sit flush in a powerpoint.

    • Hmmm, showing as AU$19.25 for me ?

      • Make sure you select the CN warehouse.

    • Aaaand they're now out of stock :)

    • I was looking into the Sonoff option but the related ewelink app is getting a lot of bad reviews the last few weeks due to the server being down often that is needed for the app to work. I don't have one, just passing on the recent playstore app reviews.

  • Thanks for posting this and listing the pros and cons, but what are the benefits (or caveats) of having a non-Zigbee version?

    • +1

You do not need a gateway

      • I understand that, but why is that better (or worse)?

        • gateway needs more money. Saying that, zigbee or nothing for me. Zigbee is much easier to set up and monitors power. I use power monitoring to determine when to switch off appliances via home assistant automations.

        • +3

Yeah, the Zigbee version is more useful as part of a Home Assistant setup. If you can see the power consumption of a powerpoint then you can turn off devices that are on standby or you can tell when a particular function has completed (eg, I have on on the washing machine so when it finishes a load it sends a message to my wife and I to tell us so we don't forget to hang it out).

The wifi version is perfectly fine if only switching is required.

        • Thanks zorrt and Mentok.

      • I think you still need the gateway as the wifi door sensor and motion still needs that?

  • OK, I now have 3 of these and 3 of the Zigbee version on the way. That's going to have to be my limit.

I am not even sure what I am going to use them for except for turning my kettle in the morning on while I am still in bed.

  • Does this work with Xiaomi home app? And does this have the issues with the English version of the app and force the location to be Chinese (like the Yeelight/Dafang)?

    • +1

it looks the same as my non zigbee ones, which means Xiaomi (China) has permission to follow you, make phone calls, date your mother … but still can't tell you the local weather.

      • Don’t worry not even the weatherman can tell you your local weather…

  • +1

Another con for this version: it uses more power itself. That makes a difference of about $1 per year that you have it plugged in. No idea how long they will last but for me that difference justifies paying about $2 extra for a Zigbee version.

Decision tree: already have a Gateway or plan to get one for other stuff: go Zigbee for your Sockets too.
Don't have a Gateway and don't expect to want one: go WiFi.

  • Expired? Man why do these deals go out so quickly???

    • They often get posted or reposted on more than one site :(

  • WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN WHEN I AM OUT OR ASLEEP?

    • Solution : don’t sleep!

    • +4

OzBargain needs an app that will set off an alarm whenever a deal on a product you want is posted

      With various notification options:
      - even if I am in a meeting
      - even if I am asleep
      - even if my wife is giving birth to my firstborn child
      - even if I am watching a Star Wars

  • can;t get the discount to apply to order total

  • For someone who has not got his head around on this how works or address the issue I am trying to solve. Can you pls advise if this helps. I've sony home theater system whose remote is broken. So i have to physically start the system by pressing the on button. Can i use this plug and connect sony system to it and use app to start and stop electricity supply….or have i got this completely wrong?

    cheers

    • +1

You got it right, it will do exactly that and a few other things like timer function if required.

      • thanks. So the app in question can be installed on my phone and as long as wifi is on I can turn on/off the power to this plug. The app in question only works for xiomi phone or something? thanks for your help.

        • The app works on Android and Apple phones

      • I think it will just power the system but won't actually turn it on.

        • but if I have system plugged in with switch on at wall socket. With this I control it to have on/off.

        • @s0805:

All the switch does it provide power to whatever is plugged in, on/off function either enables or disables power, so it won't actually turn it on if that is what you're asking.

It's like if you were to plug a kettle into it, for it to be useful you would need to manually flick the switch on the kettle prior to operating it.

        • @Lorindor: ok….got it. so this won't work then. damn it….will have to look for remotes then. Thanks for explaining. much helpful.

        • @s0805: it might work. My Samsung unit turns on when it gets power after being disconnected.

    • +1

It depends on whether your sony home theater system turns on in standby mode or not

      • sorry, i don't understand what you mean.

        • +2

Some appliances you plug in and they turn on straight away, others you plug in and they go straight into standby mode and you have to then turn on with a remote

        • @xev: oh ok. this one is plugged in at extension board now but if i buy such plugs i will plug them at wall socket. thanks

    • +1

In your situation, I think a universal remote would be better suited.
They vary from around $10 (target one for $12) up to hundreds.

The WiFi socket is for turning things on and off at the wall.
Not really how you would be turning on your home theater.

      • that was the 1st thing i did. I didn't bought the target one but it seems these so called universal ones are not always working. i bought it from ebay to specific. I mean it has DVD player but none of the remotes i tried working with that.

        • +1

The mid-range ones are multi use (eg TV + DVD + AMP etc) and quite a few have a guarantee to work or get your money back.
I think JB do the guaranteed universal remotes, but I'm not 100%. Perhaps someone else in here could give more guidance.

        • @moore22: in that case i should try them. Any other retailers you can think of. funnily when i looked at exact replacement remote for home system it was $60.

        • you could try one of these:

    • +1

      Is it that good though

  • It shows expired on me

  • expired code

  • Beijing is too far

  • How does one hit up Gearbest for a code?

  • Damn, how many time can I actually miss this deal? I'm sitting on 100% at this stage.

    • I was like that with the pens. Finally purchased them… Never got them, might hot them up now
