    • If it having "Made in Japan" on the dial makes you feel good, then go for it. I considered it, but got a deal too good to refuse and don't even think about it's origin now. I prefer it without the extra line of writing personally. I'd go after-market for the bracelet from Strapcode. Probably worth getting the bracelet if cheap, then selling on ebay to fund the new one, they seem to sell for silly prices.

Bought a watch. Thanks OP! :)

  • Alpinist :) Very nice.

  • When will this code expire?

Awesome watch for the price. Still haven't got a white stainless steel watch. This couild be it. Trying so hard to resist.

  • +1

Cocktail Time sold out. Phew!! Love a bargain, but that would have crippled me

    • SARB065 Cocktail Time back in stock at the time of this post!

    • +1

Get out the wheelchair, back in stock.

      • +1

You got me on crutches. After days of hesitation, finally bought the Cocktail Time.
        A masterpiece indeed
        Thanks for the post ilikeit

  • +2

Just pulled the trigger on the SARB033. What a lovely piece.

  • Damn I’d be all over this if my crypto and stocks hadn’t been destroyed this week

    • +5

Well for the crypto wait 10min, then check again.
      It's like that…

    • HODL!!

  • +1

Wow, this seller has a 99.9% eBay rating with 45k+ sales.

I didn't know it was possible to get that high…

  • Damn it I have been hunting that SARB065! Nooooo!!

    • Check back in a couple of days, they might source more stock.

      • +1

Will be keeping an eye out like a hawk. Shame it isn't AU stock for 3 years local warranty, but those prices are just irresistible!

        • Cocktail is back in stock!

    • back in stock - but if I buy I'm broke.
      What to do?

      • +2

Buy and eat 2 minute noodles until next pay!

I'm actually in the same predicament. Get paid tomorrow…Hope stock stays…

  • Great price! Heading to Japan next month so im torn, dont know whether to buy now or in Japan. I think you cant even get these prices in Japan.

    • +1

Tough call. There is a massive second hand market for used luxury watches in Japan. Something catch your eye.

    • +3

Was just there. All the retail stores have them for roughly $400.

This is a much better deal!

      • +2

Ok you guys have twisted my arm. Alpinist bought! I was hoping to get lucky with a second hand white Alpinist but i'll settle for the green.

  • Excellent price on the Alpinist. I can't remember ever seeing it below ~$430AUD, and that's going back years ago to when AUD was almost on parity with USD.

  • Man that alpinist is so tempting. I've been eyeing it out for more than a year.

    Must. Have. Strength.

    • +1

Imagine desiring something for a whole year and letting it slip through your fingers…you will need another sort of strength.

  • +1

Bought. Was eyeing out on these for a while. Cannot believe I didn't get the SARB021 when it was selling for about AUD400. Didn't want to let this pass by. Thanks OP.

    • I regret no getting a SARG009.

      • I got the SARG011 after it was discontinued but had to pay $750 AUD from Buyee.jp, they have a bunch of auctions for new and used watches worth it for discontinued and hard to find items. Have to use google translate a fair bit and some imagination reading the descriptions.

        • So many reps…interesting though. Bookmarked.

      • Watch noob here… what are the differences between this and the SARB033?

        • SARG009 - different style. Discontinued.

      • Reminds me of a Sinn.

  • +1

I was looking at buying a 033 a few days ago and came across this on ebay but tried using the code on ebay.com.au, which didn't work and gave up.

Bought one now and I'm going to get a Fluco suede strap to go with it off amazon.

  • dumb question with payment for an alpinist, should you use Paypal (safer option?) linked to a regular bank account or is it better to pay using 28 degrees since they have the CC option?

    • +1

28 degrees through Paypal. When selecting payment method, select convert with card provider

      • When selecting payment method, select convert with card provider

I couldn't find this option when checking out with Paypal.

        • @Munki:
Thanks. One to follow next time.

        • +1

@tanoshiiki: You can actually set it so you don't forget next time! ;)

        • +1

          @Munki:
Unsurprisingly, Paypal has changed their interface since that blog was posted. After a bit of clicking, "Payments" can now be found by clicking on the cogwheel icon (Settings) and then you can continue following the same instructions as per the blog post.

    • thanks guys, all this time, I didnt know you could link a 28 degrees onto paypal to save money, i always thought paypal would slug you with an extra "fee" to discourage people from using a CC….second, I would have never figured out how to change that currency option, paypal clearly makes it a tedious process

  • +1

    Thanks for posting this!!

  • +1

Bought a SARB033 in 2016 and wore it for a good year. It garnered a lot of compliments in person. Such a great quality watch. Really good value. I prefer the 033 over the 035 as black is more versatile. Sold it last year but was actually looking for a used one these past few days. Used market value is around 300 AUD. So I'd say this is a pretty good deal. Thanks OP.

  • +1

    cheers, got the SARB035.

  • How do Seiko automatic watches compare to other Japanese automatic watches, eg Orient? Is any brand more desirable or more reliable/better quality?

    • +1

These ones in OP's post is superior.

    • Orient IS Seiko.

    • +3

Orient is a subsidiary of Seiko but they have their own in house movements and designs.

You cant go wrong with Seiko or Orient but these models are really great value and are some of the most popular among Seiko fans.

  • Hmm…In a bit of a dilemma now. Just found I can get the SRPB43 at a lower price than the SARB065…On the one hand, the 6R15 is a better movement and slightly better power reserve, on the other the SRPB43 looks slightly more refined with a nicer crown. Can't choose between the two now!

    • I actually went the reverse since I preferred the SARB065's smaller crown and dial text. Felt the SRPB43 crown was too chunky and dominating after seeing it in the flesh.

One upside to the SRPB43 is it is slightly thinner, but noticeably.

The other difference is that the 6R15 movement of the SARB065 has better tolerances for accuracy.

      • I hadn't seen it in person yet, but is it really that chunky? I'm getting swayed to the SARB065 mostly due to the better movement.

        • I have had the SARB065 for over a year and it is a great dress watch and I am glad I got it ahead of the SRPB43/SARY075 with the lower price point movement 4R35.

6R15 is an excellent reliable movement but it seems that Seiko is pushing the 4R35 in a lot of new watches.

        • @blairz1: Must be lower cost to produce with the 4R35. There was a Premier (SRPA17J2) I wanted that uses the same movement. Having trouble finding out why it's so expensive though!

    • Get the original cocktail time if you can. Not only is it discontinued it's also a classic and it's value will likely go up.

And then you can get one of the cheaper Presage Cocktail variants in a variety of designs. They're damn pretty in their own right.

I have the SARY085 Starlight and SARY081 Cocktail time with power reserve. Two of my favourites in my collection.

  • Anyone know how long delivery will take?

    • +2

I just received a notification that my order from last night shipped.

It's coming from Hong Kong, so hopefully it won't be too long of a wait.

      The free shipping has tracking.

      • I just received a notification too and I ordered today at 11am.
"Estimated delivery: Fri. 16 Feb. - Mon. 19 Mar."

  • +1

I have stopped myself….after youtubing 'sarb033 chinese'. Now, I don't know what to think (or buy). You should read it too….and then adjust your expectation accordingly.

    • +2

Perhaps a Grand Seiko or a CREDOR would suit you?

      • Upcoming GS are tasty

  • +2

Soo tempted to get the skx013! Great post op

  • +2

Should I get this or the Patek Philippe?

    • +1

Save up for a Vostok imo.

      • +1

        Get a Kevin or Deerfun.

        • +1

Did someone say Deerfun, I like the green hulk (3rd one)

        • +1

@WatchNerd: Helpfully, that entire range says on the dial DIFFERENT&LIFESTYLE and they all specifically feature Water Resistance Depth:yes.

  • Dammit… I'm so weak! I caved and bought the SARB033… Stupid eBay alerts showing the stock levels going down .. 8, 7, 6, 5. What's worse.. in my haste I forgot to change my payment method and it defaulted to using PayPal's exchange rate, so I paid an extra $12 in exchange fees :(

    • these damn online sites really know how to pressure you to buy/commit…I fell for that a couple of times on hotel booking sites that warn you "only 2 rooms remaining at this price blah blah blah"…"6 people are looking at this hotel now"

      • +1

Another user mentioned the other day a way to check the existing stock levels of eBay items. Google it,I think you check in the coding.

        • +1

          Stuhtb mentiond it here.

        • +1

@WatchNerd: Actually it's even easier than that - just add 1x cart, go to checkout and then update the number to a ludicrously high number and click 'update' - will show what's left. At least that's the case on the .au site. Mind you i'm always worried i'll end up buying 100 of something … gotta be careful …

  • SKX013K1 is also available (rubber) for $192 in case the bracelet version goes out of stock. Might be OK if you are planning to change to a Strapcode Super Oyster anyway. Not great value though.

  • +1

I missed out, I wasted too much time contemplating. 033 is out of stock. I feel so sad. :(

    • +1

It's showing as "More than 10 available" for me. So you can buy one now and feel happy :)

      • +1

yup! I checked it this morning and bought one straight away! I am happy now. :D

  • +1

SEIKO SARB065 Cocktail Time is back in stock - 11 available.

  • Just picked up a Cocktail Time. Now to figure out what strap to pair it with.

  • +1

Pulled the trigger on a SARB065 after a few days of umming and arrring. Only way for to stop wasting time looking at watches!

    • +1

How long do you reckon that'll last? Hehe. There's always something else out there.

  • +2

Alpinist received. Very fast shipping. Buy with confidence.

  • My SARB035 arrived today! Very fast indeed. Anyone have any tips as to where to get links removed in Mebourne for a good price (or free)?

    • +1

Do yourself mate, but be warned - Seiko uses the pin and collar system. Very sturdy once sized, but a real b*tch to do because they are fiddly. Watch some videos on youtube. If you need to get some tools, get them on aliexpress.

      See this tutorial from SeiyaJapan

      • Saw that tutorial. I don't trust myself to do it myself…

      • +1

I paid to have the bracelet of my monster re-sized at a well-known jeweller in Melbourne because I wasn't confident with the pin and collar system. The watch fell off my wrist as I was walking home from the store - they hadn't put the collar back on.

When I checked the side of the bracelet I also found it was scratched up from where they'd been fumbling with it.

Moral of the story - paying to get someone else to do it for you doesn't necessarily mean they'll do a good job. These days I size all my bracelets myself.

        • That's a harsh lesson. DIY with a bit of patience is nearly always better. Let it become a minor hobby.

    • I went to the Seiko boutique in the Melbourne CBD and they removed the links for me without charge :)

Surprisingly, they only had to remove 3 links. I thought I would have to remove 5-6 links. I'm not sure if they made any micro-adjustments at the clasp; I didn't take notice before or after.

  • I received the SKX009K2. Very fast shipping. But the watch was not in a Seiko box. It didn't even have a manual. Is that Ok? Should I be worried?

    • +3

That is pretty standard for grey market model. My Seiko SKX009 and Seiko Turtle were exactly the same. Some grey market sellers offer the original Seiko box for a few dollars extra. It doesn't matter on a cheap watch anyway.

      • Thanks

    • Dupe.

    • +3

I tried wearing the box once and it didn't really work out, for either of us.
