    • Probably double d's, I mean boxes

    • Picked one up one Saturday - came in 2 boxes. One large and one about half the size. The large one was probably close to 2M in length.

Just bought the dumbbell set from Kmart yesterday for $50.
    Hating myself right now.

Thinking I should try and get it returned.

    • How heavy is it??

  • This is somewhat unrelated but can I quickly plug the ab roller as both a super cheap, effective and comfortable exercise for building abdominal muscle?

    This thing - https://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/ab-roller. Sells for $15.

Happened to have one at my gym and gave it a try. Unlike sit-ups it's much more targeted while not being a strain on your back. Unlike planks, it's an active exercise.

I can only perform them by extending while kneeling on a cushion but it can be made more difficult through inclines and eventually doing it standing up.

    • +1

ab wheels are amazing, core will be sore for days

    • -2

Talking about an ab wheel under an ad for a squat rack is like suggesting a push bike on a car thread.

      • +2

Not … really? It's an ad for mixed home weights exercise equipment. Just happens that abs only really need your bodyweight, unless you want to get one of those awful ab crunch doodads.

        • Thanks for this mate, was actually looking for an alternative to doing crunches

  • hell yeah I'm going to get some..!!
been looking for a 4.5kg door stopper, no hurricane can slam the door now!

  • +2

So do I put the squat rack over my toilet?

    • +1

If it is outdoors, then why not.

  • Great, the resistance bands I bought last time are wearing out

  • +3

Squat rack price isnt amazing. You can get it delivered to your house from ebay.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Power-Cage-Squat-Rack-Weights-Be…

    • +6

      That looks pretty flimsy tbh

    • +2

Aldi look stroooooong, eBay look like weak girly rack!

    • wow, thanks. this one is a bit different but seems better. and its only about $170 after the 5% off

  • +1

Can someone who owns this rack confirm if it can be used to bench press? Assuming I added a bench of course.

    • +1

Yes, multiple safety bar heights let you bench till your hearts content

  • +1

How come barbells are not suitable with squat rack? It mentions I'm the ad.

    • Probably not wide enough.

  • +1

Anyone know of the so called bumper plates are standard or Olympic size?

    • I can semi answer this question!

I was super excited last time When I saw "bumpers" for such cheap prices.

I went to see them and by the time I got there, all the 20s were gone :(

I can tell you the remaining weights are not Olympic diameter and is just rubber coated. They weren't bumpers.

The diameter of the opening for all the plates are Olympic standard.

If someone can chime in on the 20s, that would be amazing!

      • I just posted the same thing lol.. 20s are the same as you've stated

      • SO they fit on an olympic bar, but none of the plates even the 20's are olympic width. thats a shame!

        • If you are buying as part of a cheap home gym, why would non-olmpic width plates matter one iota?
The important part for 99% of people considering buying them on here, is that the actual diameter is the one that requires an Olympic diameter bar, and not those crappy skinny cheap eBay bars.

I bought 2 of each size last time, and a year later they are good as new. 20kg is 20kg regardless of how it looks when squating.

          @ptrg:

          3 reasons:

          1. To achieve correct deadlifting height (without adding random things to the floor which adds cost / annoyances)
          2. Bumper plates can be dropped. These cannot.
          3. To match existing bumper plates you already own

Still a decent deal and suitable for other exercises! But it's misleading advertising. It's like buying a 52 inch screen and getting a 49 incher. You can still watch TV on it so why complain?

          … Because you wanted the 52 incher…

        • @androo:
Exactly, I am after proper bumpers for deadlifts and barbell rows so the width of the plate matters to me

        • @pranksta:

You dont need bumpers for deadlifts. You're suppose to take the bar down in a controlled manner. But as androo said, its mainly for the positioning of the height

        • @chalky: Yep, exactly why I mentioned the width of the plate mattering to me. Plus if In fail I would rather have rubber to cause less impact on my rental property garage floor (although I do have rubber mats)

  • Anyone know the dimensions of the rack when fully assembled?

    • It’s in the description.

  • Any recommendations for a flat bench to go with this?

    • +1

Any sturdy cheap gumtree bench that someone has given up on using

My brother in law purchased these "bumper plates" last year to add to our home gym. They are Olympic size hole (2" hole) but they are not actually bumper plates. They are just steel plates with very thin rubber coating. Also, they are smaller than the standard diameter for bumper plates by a fair margin.

I would not recommend. You can grab used rubber plates with handles for a similar price (or cheaper) if you look around

  • Aren't barbells normally 20kg on their own. This says 5kg?
And yeah, i cant math like the other guy, but 8kg barbell is less than i use at gym.

    • -2

It is ok, you keep practicing and maybe you'll be able to put weights on your barbell one day.

  • Do those suspension weight training things work? Always scared I'd just rip off the door with one of those things. Too much leverage for a normal household door going on.

  • Those bumper plate packs are an absolute bargain , you will never find bumper plates that cheap everrrrr

  • Would I be stupid to consider getting this up a staircase and out onto a balcony?

    • Only opinion that really matters are the people below your balcony ;-) If renting check with your landlord so you don't end up on the news if it collapses.

  • +2

The box for the tower JUST fits in the boot of a magna stationwagon, with drivers seat fully forward. very specific I know, but thought it might help someone out who's considering picking one up.

Note: you'll also have to make a friend, take a friend, or hunt down a bunnings style mega-trolley to have any chance of getting it you your car (and still most likely need some help on the trolley to car transfer)

*these things were kept in the back area at the ALDI store I went to last year

  • +1

ALDI gym gear is surprisingly durable. I've got a squat rack that I bought from there back in 09 and it still racks the weight so i can't complain.

  • Hey guys, does anyone who owns the squat rack know if it is compatible with a standard barbell?? Or will I need to buy an Olympic barbell for this rack??

  • +1

Ty OP. Now I can do nothing at home, except this time I have a squat rack rusting outside

  • Anyone know a particular Aldi store that is good with stock levels ?

I have two stores near me and both have regular bogan arguments and fights when there are Aldi specials on.

    Im in NSW, Sydney.

    • It would even worse with roid rage! ;-)

  • +1

Grabbed the last EZ curl set at Greensborough Plaza VIC about an hour ago.
They still had 1 x straight bar set and about 3 x power racks.

  • Had to visit 4 Aldi stores. What a Saturday… Got one in the end though. There were 2 left in Castle Hill after I picked one up ~3pm on 24/02.

  • How's teh stock levels for the gym items? heading to Aldi tomorrow and was wondering if there's anything left to check out?

Interested in Barbell Set and Dumbells set (sydney)

  • Are the foam rollers any good?
