Portable speaker

Hi I am looking recommendations for the best portable speaker that gives great sound. I visited JB HIFI and the main competitors seem to be BOSE, JBL, Sonos and UE boom. Bit overwhelmed with choices though and looking for feedback or great deals you may have seen please.
Thank you!

  • The Bose soundlink mini ii is good. Sound clarity on the Bose seemed best out of the box for me, but it is pricey for what it is. The Sony Srs-xb30 has awesome battery life and is waterproof. People have been saying you can tweak the eq with the Sony app. In store, I thought the xb30's bass was overpowering and mids muddy.

Ue booms are super popular and 360 degree sound is cool. I guess it depends on your usage.

Personally I'd recommend the Bose, but sound quality is subjective and you might be perfectly happy with a speaker that's almost half the price with twice the battery life.

  • Bose sound quality is great for a small package, I have Sonos 1's in a few places too which sound great and link perfectly for multiroom sound. Just need to ask yourself how you will be listening to your music and if you want multiroom

  • Megaboom is my favourite. Goes loud, and has a good bluetooth range, + life proof.

    • Not life proof for me. Water somehow managed to make its way into the 3.5mm jack even though the flap was closed and corroded the headphone jack so now i can't use it with a headphone spliter to connect it to my sub woofer. :(

  • I have one of these and it punches well above its weight - better sound than my Sony that cost 3x as much

By process of extrapolation this should be awesome

  • I decided on a JBL Flip 3 a while ago after my mate recommended it. JBL Flip 4 is out now and i believe its water proof (mine is water resistant but it has still survived a dunk in the pool).

Really happy with it, its loud enough over 5 people in the swimming pool. Any more than that and you can pair it with another JBL speaker which we have done as well.

  • UE Boom 2 - but don't pay more than $125

I think it sounds better than Flip 4 but it does also cost more

  • In my opinion JBL and SONOS sounds way better then the UE mega boom. But what they can't do is Party mode where you can connect your speaker with your friends mega boom to make it louder and you can also turn on the speaker remotely. The mega boom can also act as a Google home, but you can't wake it with a command. You have to use the button. You also get firmware updates to get new features.
