Update 17/12: Deal is over. VF has run out of stock. Congrats and Merry Christmas to those who scored! :)

<del>MOD: According to users on pg5, the deal has been reinstated.</del>

<del>Update: Deal is finished. Repayment is now back to $30. :( Good luck to those who have ordered, though!</del>

OK, per request from the other HTC Legend thread…

If you’re a member of one of the motoring clubs (NRMA, RACV, etc), you
might want to check out Vodafone. They currently have the HTC Legend for $0 repayment on their 12-month $29 cap.

Navigate to the link below:

http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-htc-legend.aspx?company…

Then select '12 month'.

By my calculation, your min cost over 12 months should be (after 10% discount and 3 months free access):

$29 * 10% off * 9 months = $234.9

(plus, possibly, $84 moneybackco cashback for those who managed)

Which is outstanding value for a pocketable Android 2.2 phone with such strong specs. And it comes with a cap with 200mb data!

Be warned, though, that Voda’s customer service (or the lack of it, really) is shocking! Have a look at discussions on whirlpool!

  • Just curious, I didn't screenshot or print the confirmation page of my order; All I have is the confirmation email. Will this be enough evidence to argue against any handset charges they may place in the future?

  • +4

When you still go through the deal it gives you 2 options to pay $30 per month or $0 upfront? Does that mean the deal is still on? I got an order confirmation that's $0 and a monthly payment of $26.10…which is the same as the one I ordered previously when the deal was on.

If I have to pay more, do I just use the email that I received as proof that the contract I signed up for was for $0 upfront?

    • 12 months or 24 months?

    • I ordered last night and i'm on the same boat as you, 0 upfront for 12 months (no repayments?) let me know if any updates

    • You're a genius angpoon!

I had my initial order cancelled cause I am buying for a gift so i put in the future owner's name but my credit details (which failed the credit check) and they cancelled my order (couldn't change the name for some unknown reason).
So I was fuming last night that I'd missed out when I was one of the first to put in an order!

      • Just realised that I AGAIN forgot to do MoneybackCo!!
        I never remember..
Maybe I should make it my homepage or something!

    • can't find add to cart button now.

  • Order at 6am this morning got a successful email this arvo saying credit all good and phone on it's way.

This might be the best and last bargain for 2010 for me, next time I get a bargain it will be whilst surfing web on my new HTC!

  • 12 months

  • Just wanted to update that my phone is on its ways. I'm not a member of any racing/car group, got it anyhow (well I hope it gets to me before xmas) - sent to work so if I don't get it then. Potentially MIA. gotta check with the city post office then I guess

    3 months free.
    10% off.
enforcble via TIO anyhow and dirt cheap

    HAPPY ABOUT THIS!!!

  • Anyone know if we get a posted tracking number for the phone?

  • can someone help? How can i revert my vote on the deal. Accidentally hit on the -ve button as i am using hubby's phone which the touch screen is not that great. Sorry.

    • +5

You obviously need a HTC Legend.

      • +1

Common people, this should be the bargain of the year - if not at least best of the month, not that Krispy Kremes deal with 233 +ve votes!

    • See right side of Heading of the deal -> click votes and search ur name and revoke your vote :)

      • +1

        thank you : )

  • +6

    As angpoon mentioned,

If you follow the link, click on 12 months and add the HTC Legend into your cart,

Select "PAY UPFRONT" you will find that it says $0 dollar upfront.

Whoever setting the rates for Vodafone is either REALLY careless, plain stupid or simply hate his workplace :P

  • YES !! hello guys, whoever missout, this deal is NOT expired yet!
"If you follow the link, click on 12 months and add the HTC Legend into your cart,
Select “PAY UPFRONT” you will find that it says $0 dollar upfront"

    haha…

    • $0 upfront with $30 installment every month…. haha

      • Comes up as $360 upfront for me. Scratch that, it works

For those that are stuck here:

    15/12/2010 02:01 PM Order Incomplete
15/12/2010 02:11 PM Order being processed

    Please call Vodafone on 1300 300 404.

I was told my order was "stuck" in the system and the CSR said she'd "push" my order through and that I would receive a confirmation via email in around 5 minutes.

I checked my email and within a couple of minutes had received the email from Vodafone stating my credit check had been successful and that I'd be receiving the phone within 2 days.

    • +2

Any idea of the best time to call? Every time I call them the wait is > 40 minutes.

    • what time you called? and which option you selected. I selected option 5 and it said minimum 40 minutes wait time :(

      • I called at 8:10 in the morning and got through immediately. Infact, whenever I call Vodafone in the morning I always get through immediately or just a minute or two wait.

When I rang I think I chose the option "enquire about joining Vodafone" or something along those lines. I got through to the Australian sales centre.

        • I just rang and sat on hold for about 35 mins, only to be connected to what sounded like an Indian call centre where I was informed that the reason my order hadn't gone beyond the first 'Processing' status was because the HTC Legend was out-of-stock and there wouldn't be more until 6th Jan!

I really hope this is not the case, the CSR wasn't able to do anything else about 'pushing' the order because the stock wasn't there…

        • OK - rang again and used option 1 "If you'd like to join vodafone…"

Was put straight through to the Aussie call centre but the guy said that he couldn't help with my order because it was placed over the web, and transferred me back to the 40 minute queue :(

        • Update #3:
Called back to the aussie call centre and quoted my order number straight away - they were then able to look it up and push it through for credit check. Asked about stock and they seemed confident I would receive it next week if the check went well.

Worried though, especially considering the online call centre says no stock and people at the end of this thread are reporting stock has run out…

    • absolutely correcto… thanks for the heads up, just did the same, and here we have it.

    • Just rang them up, there was no waiting time (surprised after all I've heard)

The guy was helpful, the moment I told him my tracking number it went through though (nothing done on his behalf). Don't you love the way the world works ;)

  • -1

I have just ordered using the $0 pay up-front trick. Deal is definately not expired, get on it while you can…

    • +1

..wishing that I could upvote this deal again

  • So far, it seems Vodafone is willing to honour the deal (put through due to system glitch / loop hole). However, I don't really want to gamble (due to bad experience with Three before). Last time, Three simply removed the 3 months free I was suppose to get and also removed the referel bonus. I ended up paying the full price of the contract.

A very good deal indeed. Pity I am not a fan of HTC Legend (would prefer at least a HTC Desire). Too lazy to go through the trouble and eBay the phone.

Anyway, very good deal for people who want to try out Android.

    • I don't see how they can reneg on this deal. Both emails received form Vodafone (initial order, and credit check confirmation) both clearly mention the 10% off and 3 months free.

      • guess he/she was too lazy to speak to CS manager or if at worse, seek action through TIO. Easily honoured :)

  • They love to hold me up !!! :(

    Anyone else get this?

    • same, i think no more stock.

  • It's gone now…

  • Looks like the deal is gone. "Add to cart" or "buy" button is gone.

Good luck to all those who got the deal

    • sure appear so, best way to avoid any further fk up on their end perhaps?

i wonder who got fired today :P

    • +1

Luckily I found that I still have a phone in my cart…

      • Wow I was kicking myself for not jumping on this deal 2 days ago but then I checked my cart and there are still 2 phones in there with $0 monthly repayments. Thank you!

        • Lucky you. I am jealous of you:-) I just checked my cart, nothing there, hehe.

  • Michael Clarke?

  • yipee….

We’re happy to inform you that your Vodafone credit check has been successful. Your Vodafone Direct Deal will be shipped to you very soon.

All credit goes to yjm……u rock man!!!!

    • +1

And it not worth a BIG FAT +VE? Sigh…

    • Congrats! Now see who gets their phone delivered first? :)

Hopefully in the next business day or two, based on my own experience.

      • Thanks for the deal yjm!

Its now a race to see who gets it delivered first. Hopefully within the week cause im on holidays after that!

  • crap, i got that email "need more id" things.. unbelievable

  • Canceled my order as I mistakenly signed up a 24-month contract instead of 12-month, was asking to change to 12-month contract, but they asked for $30/m repayment.

    • Good, 24 month is not worth it.

  • Was able to order one as it was still in my cart, not sure if I'll actually get it or if they'll tell me it's out of stock.

Either way, thanks OP and other contributors! :)

    • In the same boat as you! Found there were 2 left in my cart and ordered both. Fingers crossed!
Thanks OP and everyone for keeping this updated!

  • +1

Still out of stock. Has anyone had any luck??

  • Really want this phone but too late

  • my order of the 0$ upfront (second wave) of this phone got cancelled without informing me.

however its possibly due to me having one already on order from the first day.

  • OK spoke to customer care about my orders.
One was cancelled this morning and no notification via email
The other was declined due to credit check which is a load of bollocks,
re ordered one last night to try again.

Seems like their system is all buggered at the moment.

My first order that showed being cancelled this morning is showing up on vodafone system as
having been processed and has been accepted and gone through,
same goes for the order that had been declined due to credit check, all good and processed.
My order last night does not even show up on their system.

The guy said that they are/were having big issues with online ordering but to rest assured
that two orders of mine have been accepted placed and verified as all good.

Delivery will be beginning Jan as stock is down.

I have told them to cancel my order from last night, to make a note seeing as my other orders have gone through.

They are looking into it and will contact me on Wednesday to update me on the cancellation.

    So
If you have any issues, orders cancelled etc etc CALL THEM and speak to the friendly staff in India.
Very helpful if you are polite and nice to them!!!!
    LOL

    • Delivery will be beginning Jan as stock is down

Does that apply to all of us or to the laters? I was expecting to get them before X'mas.

      • Our order was placed 15/12/2010

    • My first order that showed being cancelled this morning is showing up on vodafone system as
having been processed and has been accepted and gone through,

This happened automatically or after you called them?

  • wtf??
Thank you for your recent application with Vodafone. We’re thrilled that you want to join us.
After careful assessment of your application and based upon the information provided, at this stage we are not able to proceed with your application as unfortunately you have not met Vodafone's credit criteria.

They gave me no reason at all. I have no debt, 11k limit on the credit card. How on earth can they decline me?

    • They prob do that to reduce their Loss

    • yep
look at my other reply a few pages ago.
same thing happened to the wife
but as just mentioned, on the vodafone system it has been accepted processed and
      waiting for delivery

      • No mention of the 10% off in that email, just the 3 months free?

      • My email didn't have that, it just said:

Hoping that blank update means it has been dispatched. Delivery monday perhaps? woot!

  • i've been stuck on credit check since 5pm yesterday

  • They just called and advised that the deal wasnt for current customers. I tried to do an upgrade to this plan since I wasnt under contract any more. Even though there was an option for current customers in the online forms there is no deal for me :(

    • Did you submit an order? If so, I would call back;

The phone comes with a new vodafone number regardless of whether you chose to port an existing number or not. We chose to port number from the 3 network.

Once you get phone and prior to activating the new sim, you call and port the number across. See "Congratulations on scoring a great Vodafone deal" message from above.

  • Can anyone detail how to order the phone now?

The order button seems to be missing now.

    • I believe it's gone a few hours ago.

  • looks like my order is tracked through buckscoop cashback so I get the $84 money back. This deal getting sweeter by the day!

    • nods :D

    • bargrin, good job! How did you enable moneyback tracking on the VF motoring club site? Pls enlighten us.

  • Anyone know what a credit check involves?

I have been using a visa debit card all my life so I never technically "borrow" any money?

  • I got this email as well:

Thank you for your recent application with Vodafone. We’re thrilled that you want to join us.

After careful assessment of your application and based upon the information provided, at this stage we are not able to proceed with your application as unfortunately you have not met Vodafone's credit criteria.

I don't have credit problems. I think they are playing games to reduce their losses.

    • is that 1st email you got from voda? did you get the email asking for more 100 point ID check?

      • Yes, this is the only email I have got so far. No 100 point ID check is mentioned.

    • +1

I also got that email. I've never failed a credit check in my life before, and there has never been any problems with my credit report. I have above average income, I've had a credit card for the past ten years which I've paid off in full every month without fail, and I also signed up to a much more expensive iPhone 4 plan with Telstra just a few months ago without issue. Definitely seems like Vodafone are trying to limit their losses by giving out bullshit rejections.

Oh well, I wasn't really expecting them to honour this offer anyway.
