so how do we get this deal?

    • +7

      Go to a Telstra store

      • +1

I got the deal from JB hi fi as telstra were sold out. Google home mini and earphones were all in plastic wrap with the phone. Went home went on telstra online chat asked for 5GB data. They told me this

"The 5GB MULTI Product Bonus, is given to a Recontracting or New Mobile Service. It's not applicable for everyone, so please refrain from sharing iwth your friends."

They applied it so now have 20GB data. I ported from Optus to Telstra

        • So did you go to JB HI FI and got the Home mini and earphones?

        • +1

@Razaruthless: yes JB gave me all of it. It's basically a bundle all in plastic they have

    • +2

Go to the online chat and ask for it there as well

      • I did and they asked me to go in store

      • Just checked. It is only available in Stores

        • I must be one of the lucky ones then - just upgraded my $49 BYO plan (which was only a few months old) to this one via chat

        • +1

@crumbo85: Any rep details / reference number / etc I can give to the rep when I try to upgrade? They are all flat out refusing for me.

        • @crumbo85: Oh really? I am on a $39 ($10 discounted) 12 months plan. Do you think it would be possible to get this by chat?

        • @kevsta89: chatted with ‭Jestoni.

        • +1

          @dealspider: worth asking I reckon

        • @kevsta89:
          Yes please!
Been checking daily for another $59 deal I can upgrade my BYO plan to

    • +5

Now my deal is 59$ plan with Pixel 2 XL 64GB with 20GB data + Home Mini + Earphones + JBHIFI 200$ gift card + Chat with agent just confirmed i have International Calling with the same 59$ plan

Anyone interested in phone PM me. Happy to deal :)

      • How did you get this?

      • Hey bud,

Can you advise how? I need to get myself the same deal as you. I need international calling.

        Cheers

        • i seriously don't know how i got my international plan included for same price.. apart from that i can help you to get the rest of the pack.

        • @Peepinkittu: Thanks bro. If you can guide me that would be awesome.

        • +2

@rhymingboxer1: Sign up for $49 BYO w/ $200 gift card @ JB HiFi
Run over to telstra and ask for upgrade for $59 pixel deal.
If you are new customer you get bonus 5gb

        • @Peepinkittu:
When you sign up for $49 in JB and went back to Telstra, didn't they say that $59 was only for new port in customers? Thanks

        • +1

@Peepinkittu: Are you sure they upgraded you to the Pixel 2 XL "Friends and Family" plan ($59) and not to the Pixel 2 XL "XL" plan ($139) which also includes international calling? Coz I tried doing the same and it really seemed like I was able to get it until they started explaining the deal to me, and it sounded too good to be true with Foxtel and 30 GB data and international calling etc. It turns out when I asked for the Pixel 2 XL deal, they heard Pixel 2 in "XL" deal, XL being the size of the plan and not the phone.. LOL. Then my moment of joy :) turned upside down :( when they said I could never do this as both the $49 sim only and $59 FF plans are port only offers and as soon as I take one, I am already a Telstra customer and won't be able to take another. So I would really suggest you check your plan cost carefully. But I really hope they made an error and you got all that in a $59 plan. All the best. :)

      • How did you get Google mini and the $200 jb card?

      • Hi,

Could you help me out with how did u got this plan with international calling included in $59 plan.

        • As explained I don’t know how my international pack is included.. i am still confused.. but happy ☺️

        • @Peepinkittu: I think the $49 BYO plan include the international call pack. May be it was not changed when you upgrade to $59 pixel plan.

      • Anyone tried this approach to get additional$200 gift card?

        • You'll probably be denied, but if you are buying other stuff at JB they might be nice? You'll have to get the first plan at JB, so can't get the second one there. Telstra will probably decline unless you come up with something that gets them money like a second service.

      • Do you have a receipt or something? this sounds like an awesome deal. I'd be happy with the deal minus international calling….

      • Can I please PM me and tell me how :) Cheers

    • I got the phone in jbhifi.the offer is also available on pixel 2 also

  • +2

Bugga! I could have done with this last week.

  • leasing?

  • Been waiting for this one exactly to happen, but it needs port in ahhhG I'm on the $49 20GB Telstra 12m currently..

    • Depending on how long you have to go, break it, port to Vodafone pre-paid, walk into telstra, $$$.

      • +7

Can't do this anymore, the number needs to have not been with Telstra for 3 months now. They're cracking down on this.

    • I tried 3 reps online to allow me to recontract my existing service. First rep I believe I came close, second rep flat out said no and in store offer only, third rep told me the deal was already finished.

Anyone have any luck getting around the port in requirement yet?

      • I had no luck when switching to the $39 mx plan a few months ago, had to bite the bullet and port.
It was one of the toughest battles I've had with telstra, it's like they get bonuses out of ports or something.

  • +1

    64GB or 128gb?

    • +1

When you fully load the page I see "Pixel 2 XL 64GB Just Black"
But interestingly, if you stop the page loading mid way through, it shows the 128GB model… Hmm.

      • I noticed that too… think it just preloads the 128GB tab option first, then switches to the 64GB = https://i.imgur.com/P48vnrI.png
Would like to know what you get though

  • -4

I assume this is for the 32GB only? Do you get a choice of colour of the handset and mini?

    • +2

      There is no 32gb.

      • My bad. Cheers. I was looking for at least the 128GB version (even for a few dollars more)

        • Yeah it's a shame the phone doesn't come with unlimited cloud storage….

        • @ezz88:

For photos and videos only (in their original state until 2020. Will downsize after that).

  • +1

    Good deal.
Currently paying $40 to Optus so paying extra $19x24 =$456 for pixel 2xl & Google home mini is no brainer.

  • +1

    64GB

    • +2

I just came back from JBHI. Got the same deal. Maybe you can update the original post to include JB HIFI.

      • Is there any extra credit or EFTPOS from JB?

        • F - interested for the gift card too

        • Negative, no extra incentive and can’t sign up to BYO and then upgrade either.

        • No extra credit. Just the deal mentioned in the post.

  • -2

This is going to get a lot of upvotes. Come on Optus, show us your counter offer.

    • +1

I'm not sure if Optus has this phone but it would be good to see.

    • +9

I don't think Optus will have a counter as the Pixel is exclusive to Telstra.

      • +1

Not Pixel but a flagship phone, possibly Note 8. I didn't get the Mate 10 Pro for $59 and regret it now so have been waiting…

        • +1

Doubt they'd be able to do the Note on a $59 comparable plan, price and age difference on the phones is a bit of a gap.

      • +3

I don't think optus have a network as well :-P

  • +1

cool, did they fix the blue tint issue?

    • with a software update, yes

      • +8

All it did was change the colour temps, didn't fix anything physical.

        • Try and ask them for a standard Pixel 2. I have one and they are great.

    • +7

      other issues too

      • Slow charging while battery temperature is below 20°C
      • Slow unlocking after Android 8.1
      • Second speaker not working for Ringtones and Notifications

      link

making me hold off on this deal..

      • True. For the price it’s very good, but I’ve had nothing but issues with previous Nexus phones. The reliability and service Apple offer are worth the extra $ for me, but that’s all relative of course.

        • Apple always role out software bugs. The reason I switched from Apple to Google was because Googles online services are way more reliable than Apple's. Lest we forget the car crash that was iOS6 and mobileme as well.
But having said that there are always issues with phones. The best companies respond and push out fixes quickly like Google and Apple. But I prefer Google from my past experiences.

  • +1

Where do you see the actual deal without going instore?

    • Call your nearest store

      • +1

What store did you get the deal from?

        • Available at Forest Hill VIC and called Camberwell VIC and they have it too.

  • +1

Great deal, too bad I am still on my current contract with Virgin zzz….

    • At least with Virgin you can end your contract at any time and just pay out the handset. Could work out better in the long run depending on your phone’s resale value.

  • +1

How annoying port in only! Just makes us take an extra step to get the deal..

Can we literally just port out onto a $5 sim, then come into store 10 minutes later to port into Telstra?

    • Usually, if their archaic systems can keep up.

    • I was chatting with JB hifi & they said you need to port out for 30+days, or they don't consider it as a port in, and thus it won't go through.

      • I also got the same advice from the Telstra store. They said you had to roll over a billing cycle.

        • This guy says 3 months: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5691123/redir

Other people have said they've successfully done it…
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5691240/redir

          You guys saying 1 month…

          What to believe?

        • Oh well might be worth porting over to a Voda plan for a month
          $20 inc 18gb 35days.
          https://www.vodafone.com.au/prepaid/plans

It's a bugga as I don't want to port out & then miss out on a Pixel 2 XL (being sold out) & lose my $25/mth plan. It sounds like you can't be a Telstra mobile customer at all (I thought of keeping my existing plan, grabbing a new number & porting in & then trying to move my number across to the $59 plan).

        • @John Kimble: I'd believe the 3mth one, since they're associated.

I might try to port in a new number then see if I can move my old number across to the new service. I can drop my existing plan -> $10/mth & just have call divert & leave the sim in my old phone for sms's

  • +3

Thanks OP. Here's the new phone I've been waiting for!

  • +1

Can you port in to the Telstra BYO plan for a free $200 JB voucher then head to a Telstra store to get this plan like last time? Or the F&F offer different?

    • Don’t think you can because of the port in issue, I wonder if JB would match this and give you a gift card though, hmm?

      • makes sense, you have already ported in from JB Hifi hmmmmmm

  • +1

Is there a link to this deal?

  • +1

Hey OP, how do you get the deal? Is it advertised anywhere? Could you please send a blacked out version of your contract or receipt?

    • +1

Call your nearest store. I haven't got it yet as it's for my mrs and she needs to approve.

  • i cant see Pixel 2 XL in their website, its just EMPTY

    • +1

      Here but deal isn’t listed.

      • yeah sad!

  • +4

Am on chat with someone now and they said it's available instore or online via the chat system.
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/g….

But definitely only for port-in numbers.

    • that link is not the xl version..

      • +1

It's not online but the in store deal is for xl

    • I was told that could be instore only. Not available online.

      • Just managed to upgrade to this plan from my BYO plan via chat

        • That is awesome! Which department did you choose to chat online? i.e. Disconnection, Sales, Mobile on Plan etc..
          Thanks

        • @MerlinTheWiz: Went to Mobiles on a Plan > Buy Online. Told them what I was currently on an what I wanted to switch to.

        • @crumbo85: Thanks I plan to do similar and see if I have luck.

        • @crumbo85:

do you have a reference number? maybe that will help for me to avail the same deal. would really appreciate it :)
