    • Tried Telstra Shop Adelaide at lunch no deal either to upgrade from BYO I got last year ahhG Time to wait longer for an Existing customer deal…

      • Success!
I spoke with online chat again the rep said no trouble upgrading from BYO plan I got in DEC. $49pm 20GB one from JB.

Advised I just need to call to have it processed.

Called the rep said no to start with, I advised Online was told they will do it.
Shortly after rep on phone sorted it out as upgrade without any fee :)
        4th time lucky~

I have this same deal with a 128GB phone, and I pay $109 a month.

It's a great plan, but it really annoys me that Telstra will charge existing customers full price, but nearly halve it for new customers.

I get the business side of this, but it's just irritating.

Awesome deal. Whoever gets it is lucky.

    • +1

I agree there! I was a Telstra customer until almost 2 weeks ago. They would not offer me anything decent so I ported over to the Virginmobile sim deal.
Not sure what to do about this one.

  • Hmmm - now to try and hit them up for another 5GB/10GB when my phone arrives…

  • Just managed to get this online for a white model, seemed like the rep(Hazel) was more than happy to put it through regardless of whether or not I was new customer.

    • So you were on an existing Telstra plan ?

      • Nope but I had to mention that I wanted to port my number over, the rep then brought up a few more forms for me to fill out.

Just depends on who you get I guess

    • +10

7 posts bagging the phone…we get it, relax your sacks.

    • -1

Haha that's a bit rich coming from someone who has been a member for over a year and has only ever posted one (not very good) deal.

Please provide me with a popular flagship phone that has never had a problem with it. Don't worry, I'll wait.

      • -1

No need for personal attacks. I’m just highlighting known issues with the phone, and for such an expensive phone it has far more issues than what it should have. I’m not sure what’s wrong with making people aware of its faults, who might otherwise go out and blindly buy it based on all the upvotes.

        • +1

It was not a personal attack, it's the truth. You have said 7 (now 8) negative comments on this phone.
Instead of thanking the OP for their effort, you decide to repeatedly pick out everything bad that you have heard about it.
If people don't like it, they can sell it and enjoy a cheap plan. Plenty of other people buying them.

    • +3

I've owned this device for a few months, as has my sister, and we are both power users.

We have not encountered ANY of these issues. I am aware there were some issues on release, but they've been taken care of.

Have you actually owned this device, or are you pulling this list off of reddit?

      • +1

It appears the OP has scoured the comments thread to find every known possible fault. Looking at their account, they are just here to shitpost.

        • -2

Haha, far from it. Just stated facts. Do some research into the phone and you’ll see.

        • +1

@The Almighty Dollar: Haha I actually have done my research. If you have done yours, you will see this affects only a small subset of the phones and this issue is not exclusive to the Pixel. Anything that uses an AMOLED screen can have screen problems.

"Random reboots" are the only thing on your list that will affect people. Once per month or so, the device will install software updates and security patches etc. In my mind this is a good thing?

Things like "Buzzing noise coming from speakers" are hilarious. That's called sound.
"Slowed charging when cold"? Luckily Australia is a hot country.
"Battery drain" - sorry, do you have a patent on a battery that lasts forever? From what I've read it's one of the, if not the, longest lasting battery in a flagship.

        • -2

@pennypincher98: looks like people are already starting to complain on here about the screen. Guess that’s the first thing you notice…oh well. Remember I warned you when these issues eventually happen to yours :)

        • +1

@The Almighty Dollar: I can't say that I'll be complaining about the screen - of course if you look at it from the side it's not going to be perfect. I tend to look at my phone front on so not an issue.

        • +2

          @pennypincher98:

I agree, not normal that it's blue when you look at it from an angle but the actual screen front on is really nice. I didn't even notice the blue at all in use until I read it, doesn't affect me.

Isn't this the same deal JB are now advertising?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/telstra-terms/

Was in an email newsletter this morning.

    Full T&C's pdf

    • That's the one.

    • Early Termination Charge $708

Is this on top of the plan payouts or just a one off termination charge?
I'm sure it's the first one but that's a crazy termination fee.

      • +1

The Maximum amount is = to 12 months of $59 - I would assume since it says Max, that each completed month would reduce the ETC - but I do agree that it's high!

      • That's just the plan - you have to pay for the phone separately.

        • +1

          Correct.

          Early Termination Charge
If you cancel your Plan early, you’ll need to pay an Early Termination
Charge (ETC) and any remaining handset and accessory payments.
The maximum ETC at the start of your plan is set out in the
          above table.

    • no google home mini or earphones?

      • Not offering $200 voucher with it either (some said they got).

      • Comes with both @ JB, probably just not outlined in the offer.

  • Just spoke to telstra live chat, this deal is on til 30th of April. Plenty of time :)

    • But if they run out, they'll end the deal as they've done before.

    • I am currently speaking to one now and they said it ended 26th of Feb!

Is this only for port in numbers?

      • yeah I was told in store too that it had already ended, then I said about porting and they looked again, confirmed 30th April :)

  • +1

score one in a bundle with google mini + wireless headphones from my local JB! happy days! :)
Although he told me he couldnt throw another 10gbs on top though…oh well still a great deal! thanks OP!

    • +1

      try telstra chat for 5gb

      • how do you ask for it? I've literally just signed up…

        • Just say "I heard that you're giving an extra 5gb at the moment for your customers, am I eligible?" or something along those lines. That's what I did and they applied it without issue.

        • @doweyy: thanks so much @doweyy! I've managed to score an extra 10GBs from telstra online chat! now I have 25GBs!! really happy about that! :)

        • @homersyd: How did you ask? I asked and they said only JB could do bonus data

        • @Sambuca: guess I was lucky mate…I was chatting nicely with the rep and asked him for 5gb first, then i joked about it'd be great if he could give me another 5gb, to my surprise he just went "sure!" so yea that's how I did it, his name was "Yeswanth". Hope this helps! :)

        • @homersyd: Thanks mate, I'll give it a crack!

    • Nice! Was the wireless headphones prepackaged with your phone and mini? What brand/model were they?

      • Probably not wireless…

      • sorry on closer look I think they might be wired… :(
It's some weird brand called "AIAIAI" model is "PIPE" I believe…

  • I am on $70/month with 2Gb data and unlimited national/international under business.
Will finish off with current employer in 2 weeks time so will port the number out.
I have an outright iPhone X and registered $36/month on Optus to have unlimited calls and 20Gb of data with 300mins international.
Now I saw this deal and want to cancel Optus - sell iPhone X and try to live with XL.
Not sure if it's the right decision to give up Apple & Optus.
P/S: been apple boy for 8 years since iPhone 3s

Join the Telstra + Android master race.

    • -3

Don't give up Apple; I swapped from 6 plus to Pixel 2 XL and I totally regretted it. Trying to get back to Apple now :(

      • I'm about to also go from a 6+ to the pixel 2 xl, what did you hate about the pixel? Keen for your thoughts before i make the same mistake :)

        • There is nothing inherently wrong with pixel, I never had issues with blue screens etc. But I just found the system much more complicated than it needed to be - for someone that loves customising their phone to the max then Android is the way to go - you can go nuts and really personalised the experience. The camera on the pixel 2 xl was really good too which is a big requirement for me.

But for me…I just need the damn thing to work with minimal effort. And as @josu said, iOS apps are more polished and the user experience is just simpler 90 percent of the time. Sure iOS has their annoying quirks like apps not working in the backgrounds etc, however I just found I was a lot more content with them now that I've tried the grass on the other side.

So I'll sign up this deal, sell the phone to fund an iPhone. Lucky my contract is just about finishing so no cancellation fees

        • @Jicby2: thanks for the feedback, super helpful

        • @Jicby2: 100%

      • +2

I tried to give up Apple a few times in the past with Sammy S7 Edge, Note 5 and didn't last for 2 months before I got back to iPhone. Don't want to have the same mistake as this will be 24 months contract.

        • If you sign up with this deal, you can probably sell the Pixel.

In general, I found the apps are more polished/better in iOS. But there are some apps that are exclusive to Android/iOS.

I used Note 8 before, but moved back to Apple (and got Apple Watch and AirPods now so I'll stuck here for a while!). Got another friend that tried Pixel but ended up moving back to Apple as well.

But it is all preference. I kinda miss that stunning display on the Note 8 tho!

  • Just cancelled phone order from last night and getting last one from Jb hifi with mini and headphones

    • It's that easy to cancel?

      • I agree, great question.

      • Yup.

I called them on the way to JB hifi. Cancelled.
They said there is a 3 day cooling off period, and he emailed the sales person to cancel.

JB order went through fine. I don't see how I can pay twice for the deal if you can only port over once.

My simcard was activated in 10mins!
Also got my wifes account sorted, but too bad I cannot give her a sim-card. I forgot to call her to let her know before I organised, so shes probably thinking her phone is broken.
I will be in trouble.. maybe. lol

        • Cool - I'll do that same tomorrow if there's still stock at the JB's close to me.

        • @KLoNe:
          Good luck

Just signed up and ported over from Virgin. Great deal. Thanks to OP for posting the deal and the thousand contributors with comments!

    • were you on a contract with virgin? if so, what were the early termination fees?

  • Managed to upgrade from an existing Telstra plan finally. Got through via calling with no issues and got the 5GB data extra too! They did say they were out of stock though and would be a delay with sending out stock. They also waived early exit fees etc.

    • how did u get the 5gb?

  • +3

These bundles are popping up on ebay and gumtree now.

  • IMEI check showed Nov phones :(
Optus $2 Sim and now getting deal to Telstra.

Optus $2 Sim and now getting deal to Telstra.
Boost still showing yet number ported and Optus answering number??????

        Edit:
Also lost $40 on Boost due to recharge today too :(

Due to having internet with Telstra they give an extra 5GB data…. So 20GB now

        • +2

          Try again

        • what is Nov phones ?

Let us know how you go porting back in. I was advised that you need to port out for 30+ days before you can return as a new customer otherwise it's a reactivation, thus not eligible for the plan.

        • +2

@supabrudda: November phones were the first release that had screen issues. Subsequent releases (ie. newer built Pixel 2 XLs) have fixed the issue.

Screen problems don't apply to the standard Pixel 2.

        • @Pratty: ah cheers. I didn't know that.

        • @Pratty: which IMEI check shows you release/manufacture date?

        • @John Kimble: Unsure! I'm just going off what the initial gibberish said. :)

        • +6

          Are you actually a PLANT?

    • Mine was January, from JB.

  • What headphones do you get?

  • +1

    The ultimate play:

    1. Sign up for $49 BYO w/ $200 gift card @ JB HiFi
    2. Run over to telstra and sign up for $59 pixel deal
    • have you tried that ? did it work ?

    • +1

^how do you get JB hifi cause telstra number and then get Telstra deal?

  • +3

Thumbs up, i am not buying this phone way over my budget and lifestyle. Happy with my $8.9 plan.
+1 for the love of phone and many many happy OZBargainers who are glad to see this deal

  • Has anyone been able to upgrade from the $49 byo in Sydney anywhere? Couldn't do it online or jbhifi Pitt St north

    • I've been told by JB hi-fi and Telstra that the system physically won't allow it to happen so I doubt anyone has had luck doing this.

      • Yep fair. That's so frustrating

    • I was able to do this.

I signed up to the BYO plan yesterday at jb and then contacted Telstra web support asking if I could change. They said since I signed up yesterday they should have advised this offer was available. Since that was the case they were willing to change my plan.

(Work for Telstra as non-perm and also not part of retail)

      • Yeah bugger, I did mine too long ago. Oh well. A guy at JB said there would be a $79 pixel 2 xl plan coming with more inclusions. Time will tell

      • hmm, that could potentially be a way for me to get around the boost simcard issue as well, I guess they might upgrade you are still realistically in the cooling off period.

  • I'm on $49 BYO plan and I have tried multiple times since last night to get upgraded to this deal through online chat but no luck.

latest I got was , chat consultant tried to place the order but he found the online ordering link for $59 plan has been de-activated, so asked me to try in store.

  • Thanks OP. got the deal in a local T-Partner Store. I think they still have couple left.

    • You're welcome. I ended up getting 2, one for me and one for my wife. Very happy with it.

  • +1

So..long time lurker. I actually registered just to post this comment.

I moved from Telstra to Vodafone last night purely to take advantage of this offer. Since last night I've been using my Vodafone service.

This afternoon (approx. 50 minutes ago) I went to the Burwood Telstra store. Lucky for me they had one device left (Pixel 2 XL) with the Google Mini and headphones.

I sat down with the rep to go through the process of porting my number back and he got an error stating my number was still with Telstra. I explained that I had ported out last night. He found there was no 'port out' order on my account. After a few more attempts to try to work around the issue he said to leave it with him while we worked on the issue. He couldn't explain why the port out order wasn't on my account. He said he would call me once he had investigated it a bit more.

Less than 10 minutes after leaving the store he calls and advised that I need to call Vodafone about the issue as he can't see anything he can do to fix the porting issue. He then advised that since I am porting out then porting back in in a very short time frame that I am viewed as a 'reactivation' and hence they cannot offer me the promotion/offer.

I am going to wait a few more days then try it at a different store. Has anyone else had luck leaving/rejoining in such a short time period?

    • +1

Would be interested to hear if anyone has done this successfully. There has been conflicting reports about it in the comments of this deal.

    • This is exactly what happened to me, when I tried to take advantage of the $200 JB gift card deal. Once my number had been fully transferred to Vodafone, Telstra's systems still identified my as a recent customer. I couldn't get around this issue, so gave up trying.

    • +1

I can't comment on Telstra, but it normally takes most telco's 24 hours to clean up their systems after a port out.

    • Maybe their system still says its with Telstra, even though you 100% ported out, so people that port out then port in doesn't abuse the system. Maybe the system will say it's still with Telstra for X amount of time, before a customer can port back in.

But try the next day, not the same day. If not the next day, try the 2nd day etc…..

      • Yeah, I was thinking about this approach. I'll try a different store early next week. I'll report back on my efforts.
