Any Experience with SAC Declaration Form for Importing Goods under $1000?

I am planning to import some goods from China costing less than $1000. These will be sent by the provider via sea freight at Melbourne port.
Did some reading online and looks like i need to fill up a SAC declaration form Short format for customs clearance.

Just wanted to check if someone has done this on their own in the past and how easy or painful the process is.
Alternatively, I can use an agent charging about $100 but want to give it a go as i might need more parcels in future.

Thanks for your inputs.

Cheers,

  • I thought SAC declaration was only a problem for guys going through the USA's TSA with their new full body scans.

But to actually answer your question, check out this PDF, specifically the bottom of page three, reading:

"If the value of the goods does not exceed the import entry threshold, and the consignment does not contain alcohol or tobacco, is not being referred to AQIS and has no community protection concerns, only minimal data is required to identify the importer, describe the goods, and allow linking to the cargo report before release of the goods."

    • yes thanks. Saw that. So to provide this minimum info i guess still need to fill this SAC form.
or maybe the sender can fill it for me.

I was hoping to find somone who would have done. Thanks anyways
