    • I believe it has 2 USB ports which can be used to extend the storage.

If only this was the New Pro version

  • Xbox1 and PS4 so much better…

Can play awesome games as an added bonus!

    • This product is not trying to compete with a video game console.

I was finding a reason to buy a shield but after looking at my needs decided to buy another xbox one s instead for a bit cheaper. Primarily use it for netflix, kodi and gaming. Though you would need to have a gold account to access kodi (i already do) , and working kodi addons are a bit limited at the moment. Gold account give you free games monthly though so worth it for me. It also allows me to have multiplayer games with my son :)

    • The problem is both the xbox and PS4 are terrible to use as media players.

      • Personally I find them brilliant.

You can use the micriphone in your headset to search using your voice in Youtube.

PS4 and Xbox1 remote controls work perfectly. Streams flawlessly and when you get over watching you simply swap to your game, vice versa.

        Love it!

  • This one is only WiFi? compared to 2015 model that is gigabit and wireless on the amazon comparison

    • The 2nd-gen one retains the ethernet port, otherwise it wouldn't be able to handle Gamestream very well.

  • Can you use VUDU and DTVNow on the Shield using Getflix etc?

    • I have used Vudu and also US Netflix but have moved away from Getflix and they were hopeless with USA Netflix.

  • Don't need it but looks cool. I guess I'll add it to my gaming shelf.

  • New here. Not sure if this has always been the case, but I've been watching the price on this for a while, however Amazon US has always and still does state that it does not deliver this item to Australia. Am I missing something?

    • Am I missing something?

Yes the bit that says This item ships to Australia. :-)

      • Yes thank you. Saw that. It does initially say that. When logged in it changes to "This item does not ship to Townsville, Australia. Please check other sellers who may ship internationally."

I was able to get to the final payment page using this address

          Mr Townsville
          1 Main Street
          Townsville
          QLD 4810

          You're selecting a different version I suspect.

        • @supabrudda:
Definitely have selected the correct one. Chose a parcel locker/collect address which it would not deliver to (my bad). Thanks for your help. BH Photo will price match for what's its worth. Delivery is $26 USD though.

Maybe you are looking at the pro version? I just bought the pro version a few days ago but I had to get it from https://www.bhphotovideo.com/ because amazon wouldn't ship it here. Amazon does ship the standard version though.

      • Negative. Just clicked on the OP's link. Definitely the correct version. "NVIDIA SHIELD TV | Streaming Media Player with Remote & Game Controller".

  • Have one of these, highly recommended. The time from boot up to get to last scene watched is amazing. been through many such units but nothing comes close to this!

  • Thanks OP and thanks to all the comments for the persuasion. Ordered!

  • Ah bugger. I recently (literally last week) bought the shield without the controller for $179USD. Do you think if I ask amazon they’ll send out the controller to me?

  • This or Xbox1?

    • Depends on what your needs are I guess. Opted for another xbox one s since kodi now works with it (though a bit limited atm).

  • Everyone's talking about this from a HTPC perspective, and I agree that the Shield is great in that regard. But from a gaming perspective, this thing is awesome.

If you have a gaming PC with an Nvidia GPU you can stream games from your PC to the TV and get PC-level graphics/frame rate on your big screen. I have mine wired up via Gigabit and there is no streaming artifacts, no input lag and I can not tell that I'm not in front of my PC.

The Nvidia controller is solidly built with a nice weight to it, comfortable over long periods and has google assistant voice control built in. It runs Android OS too so you can install any games/emulators available on the Google play store. Absolutely brilliant purchase.

Happy to answer any questions about the gaming side of things.

Doesn't the steam box "20 bucks" do the same thing?

      • Yes but it only does max 1080P NOT 4K
and it only streams and can do youtube and browser and anything you can display on desktop.
Steam link only streams nothing else, it has 512M Ram and locked boot loader and Rom.
Very limited hardware focus on one job its equivalent of chrome cast but for steam games.

      • The steam box does not double as a movie streaming box, so there's that. Additionally the Steam box only works with Steam games whereas this works for Uplay, Origin, Emulators as well. I don't know if the Steam box supports PS4/Xbox controllers and multiple controllers either.

Additionally, this is capable of 4K AND HDR (even if your PC monitor does not support either of those). Keep in mind HDR they have to manually add support for titles, but quite a few latest releases are supported.

  • What are the shipping times like?

really good.. I got mine in just over a week during xmas time

  • Does anybody know if it comes with a replaceable AU power plug/cord? Or is there an official adapter for the pins? I know one can can use a US-AU adapter but I hate using those as they look awful or are bulky/loose. Just looking to see if there is an official solution?

    • +1

I got mine from Amazon US and it didn't come with a AU plug/cord. You will need to use a US-AU adaptor

    • There is no AU plug in the box. But you can actually buy a power board from ebay which can suit any plug. You'll put it with TV so you need a power board anyway, and easily hide below the TV cabinet.

If anyone cares, had a chat with NVIDIA support who said if you provide them with the serial number of your unit and then can send you an AU plug to use with the same adapter. Really impressed.

Waiting for mine to get here for the serial number :)

      • Any word on getting your converter? My Shield just arrived today. Cant wait to finish work and play with it! Might just have to just get a travel converter from Woolies.

        • Mine's still on the way. I think I may have a generic converter lying around at home - will use that temporarily but will get NVIDIA to send out the AU plug.

I just bought it with almost the same price but wihout controller one month ago. Thought the deal wouldn't come so quickly. But won't regret as I've enjoyed it for a month and feel it's fantastic. Don't need the controller anyway won't play games on it.
