Sony Android TVs Cannot Pause/Rewind Live TV?? Any Help or Workaround?

I bought the Sony 65" 65x9000e TV recently and attached and formatted a decent USB hard drive for recording TV. I assumed that a high end TV like this would also be able to pause and rewind live TV (timeshift). I could not seem to make this work, and after speaking to Sony support, have found out that the TV cannot do this function. I'm pretty disappointed, as it was a function that I often used with my old LG TV.

Does anyone have a similar SONY Android TV, and has found a workaround for this problem? I love the TV and the interface in general, but the lack of live TV pausing is really making the TV feel like a dud.

Thanks in advance for any help you may have.

Cheers

  • My Sony TV does time shift as long as i am using "Freeview Plus" to watch TV
If i use the built in tuner only i cant do time shift, if i have FVP activated timeshift works (the time shift settings are in FVP settings)

Maybe they removed it on newer models?
my TV is not even 2 years old yet though.

  • I'll gladly take it off your hands.

Seriously, though it looks like the Sony android tv don't have this feature. So the trade off is either androidtv or timeshift.
I would say you can use the channel catch up apps or just download/plex.

  • I wish mine would fast forward.

  • I bought a 65X8500D last year and just like you assumed that ‘timeshift’ would be a standard feature in smart TVs now days (considering my 8 year old samsung could do it flawlessly) but nope, not Sony Android TVs!! Was really disappointed when I found out it couldnt… was hoping subsequent updates would add this feature but after the third major update, im starting to give up…

.. first and last sony tv for me
