  • Anyone got a review on the taste? :)

    Better or worse than PB?

    Sounds disgusting.

  • This stuff is rubbish. Stay far away. Had to throw it all out after tasting it.

    Chinese peanuts

Looks like the almond spread is only 23% almonds and the cashew one only 25% cashews. First ingredient for both is "vegetable oil".

      Hard to spread 100% almonds😀
Nut spreads require something like oil to make them spreadable. Spreads are usually lower nut content than nut butters & pastes

I used to make them for sale. (Was too hard convincing buyers the high price was worth the taste.)

Peanuts (not being a nut) are oil rich, so often only a small amount of oil is added (to maintain consistent consistency across batches & easier processing). So contains almost 100% peanuts.

Also huge cost difference between peanuts and nuts as an ingredient. Can't expect too high % nuts at less than $20/kg ($9/kg on sale) processed as a spread. Nut butters & spreads are expensive, especially with high nut content.

But the type of vegetable oil, it's taste & resulting texture may be of concern. (eg Nutella as a sweeten nut spread - Hazelnuts (13%), states it uses Palm Oil.)

At this price I'll try 1 of each. Not expecting much. Coles have refunded when something was too horrible to eat.

      • You really know your nuts.

      • Hard to spread 100% almonds.

Have you actually made almond or cashew butter before? It's entirely possible to use just 100% nuts with no added oils and they're perfectly spreadable.

I wasn't being totally serious there. Yes, made plenty of 100% nut butters & milks. 100% nut "butters" are much thicker than what are termed "spreads" which are highly spreadable. That is usually achieved by adding oil. It makes a far cheaper product, easily spread on bread - often for the kiddies. As nut butters are best refrigerated, spreads are easier to use straight from the fridge. It's a different product made for a different market.

I wouldn't bother with these, if you enjoy home made. I didn't buy, preferring the taste & texture of the nuts rather than added oils.

    • Fat + sugar😱
Maltodextrin (type of sugar) is #2 ingredient!
Sounds a lot like Nutella without the chocolate. Same major ingredients - sugar, oil, nuts.

  • Thanks OP I'll look out for these.

    • The cashew one is only 25% cashews so I lost interest.

  • great for making protein balls for those of us that hate peanut butter !
