Can a Mobile Phone's Calls + Data SIM Be Used in a Wi-Fi Modem to Access Data?

Has anyone tried to place their Boost or Telstra SIM card into a wifi broadband modem just to use the data?

Ta!

  • Yes, it works.

  • of course it will! I have been using kogan's free sim cards with calls and data into my portable wifi modem.

    • They give away SIMs with data on them?

    • How do you call a number with the wifi modem - what number is displayed on the receivers phone?

      • You can't generally make calls, wifi modem can only use data, not make calls. SMS is supported on some modems. Number displayed is the SIM card number.

  • Yes it will absolutely work :).

Vodafail had unlimited data on weekends about 2 years ago, and I Broden-ed the hell out of it.
I'd have multiple SIM's activated, at the most I had 1 in my phone and 3 connected to a PC running 2 virtual machines.
Vodafail was not amused to say in the least, they even cancelled the SIM's that were in my phone, clamming that I was using them in a PC, ok some I was :P.

Ah let's not forget Tel$tra's unlimited data, Tel$tra really was much better than Vodafail, they even rewarded a guy who used over a TB of data by letting him be the first one to test their 5G network!
