according to Redbook, a 2-year-old Infiniti Q60 GT is worth up to $46,400, meaning that if you took up this deal, your car will lose approx. only $3,500 in value in the next 2 years

Yeah, that's not how that works….

    • Yes, I realise that resale value over the past 2 years does not necessarily predict the next 2 years. I changed the text slightly to read that your car may only lose $3500.

      • +37

Look at this logically… say its mid 2020

do you think you're going to get anyone to buy a 2018 q60 for $46k?

the market for coupes isnt exactly bouyant besides the big time v8 sports coupes and here you have a 1,675kg 2.0 turbo four luxury Nissan…

there's a reason these things arent selling at $62 and neither will they sell at $50

protip: there is no such thing as a 2016 q60 so we have no historical data for how the q60 tracks

however we do know how infiniti tracks on resale and its poor

my opinion is that you will struggle to get $30k on this in 2020

good luck out there or buy a v8 mustang

        • +23

you seem to have issues with the difference between asking price and sold price…

in any case, thanks for the post, its interesting to see how poorly nissan are doing with this brand and i like nissan so

        • +3

          @tonyjzx:

Buying a V8 Mustang new, you will lose a lot. $65k new (on-road), many are now going for under $50k and only built in 2017. And the new 2018 model will be over $70k on road.

        • +17

of course you lose a lot, thats what buying a car is

but with a mustang you have a great chance of actually selling your car in 2, 3, 5 yrs time because people acutally want a v8 mustang so your resale is actually better than normal

no one wants a q60 now or 2, 3, 5 yrs from now so you can have all the 'estimates' you want like you're only losing $3k in 2yrs but find someone who actually wants a 155kW coupe

your supposed $3k loss is a fairy tale

        • +4

@tonyjzx: to be fair that base engine is the Mercedes-Benz 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 155kW/350Nm

          there is also a twin turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine - 298kW at 6400rpm and 475Nm between 1600 and 5200rpm.

          @MrZ:
i think people buy cars in these price brackets because they want a particular cars’ look, feel , etc …….you don’t buy them as investments, you don’t buy them as basic cheap transport, and you probabaly have some cash to splash, and if it’s for business or private use also determines costs ( my money or the companies money)

the value you get will be based on if you keep it for 2 years (ouch) , 5 years , or 10 years …… the value at the end of that period , the longer you keep it the better you you get from it as after a while the. depreciation tapers off.

        • +29

@garage sale: you mean the Westpac banker lied to me?!

        • @tonyjzx:
Yer I'm sure they'll be lining up to get their hands on a 2 star safety rated vehicle by a Car manufacturer who now only makes SUV and Trucks.

        • +2

          @MrZ:

They haven't been going for 65k new for quite a while. I bought mine 12 months ago for 57k drive away for a GT auto.

        • +2

          @leetguy101: was waiting for this.

        • @tonyjzx: I am with Tony on this. Infinity doesn't sell much, so less demand >> less price. Check how many Q60 is sold every month.

No sane person will buy 2014 old generation Q60 for $30k.

The discount represents 20% off RRP and you can haggle Audi to get 20% off anyway.

        • @tonyjzx: Both rubbish car,How people acutally want a v8 mustang and no one wants a q60?

        • -2

          @rave75:

Depending on the model, 20% might be light. I've bought an A6 retailing at $153k for $102k, and an SQ5 retailing at $128k for $100k. And then there's stuff like the new R8 Plus, lolololol. Without even asking, shortly after launch I was offered $85k off retail, and I'd posit that you could now get one brand new for at least $100k off. Audi really do follow the Godfreys model of retailing.

        • @dwarves: Come on man, no one pays $130k for an SQ5. It’s a $100k car on the road. They can pull all the option bullshit spin on you, but no one pays over $100k for one.

      • +2

Redbook isn't really a good reference. It also tells you that a 2017 Q60 is worth up to $49,000 and 2018 one $62,900. It's just a sort of calculation based on the price provided by manufacturer.

        • +5

          bingo

every manufactuer thinks their cars are the best and have the best resale

if you believe it, you're a fool

        • +1

No, Redbook says that a 2018 one is $62,900 new. They don't provide resale value for 2018 models yet because they're still too new to hit the 2nd hand market.

        • +20

@MrZ: See? They told you it's $62,900 new but you can actually get it for $49,888. And yet you still believe what it tells you.

        • +3

          @truth000:

Redbook only list new list prices. They don't list deals like this, because these are not permanent deals.

        • @truth000: i want the 2 year old bmw at that price …

        • When redbook does its resale value (i.e. used cars), it would be based on market data.

      • +4

The sales figures are so dire , there is a very good chance that the brand may pull out of Australia all together , just like Saab and the very short lived Opel.

If that happens the re sale value with fall through the floor , even further than it already has ……try selling a make and model of a car that doesn't exist anymore.

I'm in the industry , and now almost NO ONE want's sedans or coup'es , nearly every car that's sold in Aus now is an SUV or a Ute , that only makes the situation for this vehicle.

Also how peeved off would you be if you currently own one of these and did actually pay around 60K for one , the manufacturer has just shafted you , by a this 10 grand price cut , your car overnight is now instantly worth 10 grand less than it was yesterday.

        • +1

That's what Nissan did with the Y62 Patrol.

        • @lomie:

That's what Nissan did with the Y62 Patrol.

which also wasn't selling well. Still can't understand why they went with Petrol only. What were they expecting?

      • +4

You'll lose $3500 simply by driving it out the door.

  • +96

    Thanks OP, bought 3

    • damn i only bought 2 after paying the rent :(

    • +1

Your cars will lose approx. only $10,500 in value in the next 2 years

      • +1

more like 10500 in a year

    • +22

      Thanks OP, but no thanks
As a high performing investment executive in a big four bank I wouldn’t be seen dead buying a luxury car for under $80k

    • why 3, you can fold the seats back and let people in the back, don’t let the 2 door things fool you.

  • +6

As a wildcard I suppose you could throw the Mustang Ecoboost into the mix, at $48,490 plus on-roads. With 233/432 it would blow all of these cars out of the water. But it's "luxury" features are somewhat laughable, fuel consumption poor, and resale not as strong. Plus there are no 2018 build Mustangs available - any being sold now were built last year.

    • +4

mustangs are such a normie car in aus these days. get a camaro or f off!

      • +2

Eh, camaros will be the same 12 months from release too… Buy what you like/enjoy.

        • No they won’t because they will be LHD conversions and sold in limited numbers. Not many people are willing to drop $90k on a $60k car.

    • +10

hi mate, I'm really interested in your car and I want to buy it today. but unfortunately I work on an oil rig so I will send someone over to check it out. I will give you the full payment over paypal

    • +3

      Is this an unwanted present?

    • is it still available?

  • +19

For that price range, I would get a Stinger.

    • +8

      I did!

    • +6

I don't understand the negs for this. Anyone actually tried the Stinger? Test it for yourselves & see the quality of it compared to say a C Class Merc - not much difference imo - yes, even the interior (I think the stingers interior is better than my new cars plus the fact it's a 4.5s twin turbo car). I was torn a couple of months ago between this but eventually went with the Merc (badge respect sadly - yes I belong to OzB).

As to the Inifiniti - I looked at it but (and I'm a very big GTR fan) couldn't justify spending so much with resale value being so poor + build quality looked just the same as standard Nissan.

However the fact it's got the same (better) Merc engine & drivetrain is a huge boost - Infiniti just needs to get it's act together in terms of interior features & layout.

      • +4

Negs are from people who care about badges.

    • +1

If the Stinger had been released when I bought the Skoda Superb 206 AWD I would have seriously considered it. The Skoda lists at $62k.

      • +1

That Skoda is still a hell of good car. Nice choice!

        • Yeah I got the "sedan", the liftback (like the Stinger) is excellent and makes me glad I didn't go the wagon.

    • I tested a fugly grey Stinger v6; wasn't impressed, OK in sports mode but still felt big and disconnected. I know the reviews are good, but I'm holding out for the Genesis G70… I still have concerns about the ground clearance and Sydney roads.

  • $68,995 seemed to be the normal drive away with the $62,900 list price.

  • Good deal

    • +9

      going, going, not gone.

  • +2

Quick better buy before it gets ozbargained

    • +6

do they take gift cards ?

can i get the gift cards from coles or woollies ?

      • even online gift cards. haha…..

  • -7

If anybody here actually buys that, you should be banned 4 lyfe from ozbargain!

    • +23

Why? It's ozbargain, not ozfrugal. I see quite a number of high income ppl here. If infinity is their cup of tea, this would be a bargain.

      • -6

Be nice on the OP. He's had a hard day working at Kmart.

      • +16

yep, we have people buying expensive whisky ($200+) and wines (100+) ….. that is instant depreciation , drink it and pee it out.

it’s about getting what you want at the cheapest price , and not always about a substitute.

a friend of mine has a lexus, i have a bmw , just different tastes.

she liked the tech in the lexus, i liked the availability of aftermarket parts of the bmw ….depends what people’s priorities are, i service my own car she takes hers to the stealer for a service ….

        • Amen, I'm so over reading people dissing a deal submission simply because it's either not the cheapest item, or it's had a better price in the past.

  • +1

I'm just watching tonight's episode of RBT and they've pulled over an Infiniti Q60 in Sydney! Previous gen. model, though. Note that these new episodes of RBT aren't shown in NSW/QLD at present.

    • +12

Thanks for ruining future RBTs for us in other states. Now what are we supposed to do…

      • I didn't spoil anything - I just said what kind of car the guy has. But if you want spoilers…

It was an young asian chef/restaurant manager (in a Skyline aka Infiniti - big surprise?). He was speeding in Chatswood, trying to "frighten" his passengers. He also blew 0.051, but back at the station, he blew 0.049 so got off. He was however fined for speeding and given 3 demerit points.

        • -1

          Skyline ≠ Infiniti

        • +2

          @Burnertoasty:

In the previous generation, the Skyline and G37/Q60 were exactly the same.

        • +1

          @Burnertoasty:

FYI Nissan Skyline is only sold in Japan, and the rest of the world they sell that under the infinity moniker.

Nissan only started selling Infinity in Australia from 2012 so any pre 2012 infinity G350 you see are actually Skylines imported from Japan.

        • @Burnertoasty: they are mostly the same after the 350 gt

        • @cozmo: Incorrect. In New Zealand, Nissan also directly sells Skylines. Probably because the car requires no modification to meet NZ safety standards.

        • @cozmo:

          No such thing as a G350. Skyline 350GT or 370GT, Infiniti G35 or G37.

        • @prdreilly:

          Sorry typo!

        • -1

@cozmo: Yeah my mistake. I forgot that the GTR and Skyline names separated with the R34. Which coincidently was when the Skyline name became worthless.

  • Bought 2

Have a Q50S in the family, great car however would point out resale on these is terrible and incredibly slow. For 50k this is definitely quite cheap but I’d personally be getting something else.

    • The cities resale is a little better than the SUVs as these are sporty and are can swap the badge to Nissan Skyline

Great looking coupe. If only it didn't have Direct Adaptive Steering (electronic steering) which has been heavily criticised and a let down.. its less engaging for the driver and sensitive handling.

    • +8

If only it didn't have Direct Adaptive Steering

      …You'd buy one?

Well good news for you, the GT model doesn't have the direct adaptive steering!
I expect to hear an owners review in the coming months.

  • +3

It competes directly with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 4-series, Lexus RC, and Audi A5.

They wished they did. Infiniti has nothing on Lexus. Not sure about their quality against the euros.

    • +3

Never really understood the hype with Lexus cars. Thought they weren't attractive enough for a luxury car.

        • +5

Yep quality and craftsmanship in Lexus cars is above board. The cars may seem slower to introduce fancy tech but they are all about perfection and the human touch.

        • +1

@bryans: They just need the human touch on their designs.

        • @bryans:

I really like Lexus styling these days. Used to be about the ugliest premium cars around, now they're stunning (for me). They also seem a lot more generous with the options than the germans are, who as your car price increase, take more and more shit out and charge you more and more to put it back in. Eg, keyless entry being a standard in a Kia becomes a multi thousand dollar option on a Porsche. Similar for sun roofs, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warnings, etc. Lexus seem to tend to include more by default, and charge less in general for the extras.

Haven't ever driven one though, but will be tempting when it comes time for my next car. Although I'd really like an Audi RS3.

    • The UX is on my short list.
