My advice as you won't probably appreciate it as much as others, is to drink it with some good friends.
Invite them over and crack it open.
++ In rep & friendship and they will feel obliged to return something to you.

As you don't drink soft drinks I can't say with coke.

I'm also happy to be your friend.

dasher is spot on. Take it to a party or gathering or something and let the others decide how they want to drink it. Personally I'd be drinking that neat (no ice or mixer). btw. there are heaps of better Scotch Whiskeys under $100 these days - you are paying for the name with J Blue. it's still good though. Damn smooth. I'd go a nip right now.

Invite all the cool people from OzBargain over to help you enjoy it.

Oh look, first google hit for "how to drink whisky" is

    https://www.johnniewalker.com/en-lb/whisky-knowledge/how-to-…

And plenty of other websites with similar instructions…

Personally I drink most either neat or with ice.

  • +2

    10% blue 90% coke..

    • +10

You're a monster. Why not add a dash of Grange to it too for good measure?

      • +8

        LA Ice Cola instead?

        • +3

          flat and warm

        • +1

          LA Ice Cola instead?

          What a rip-off!

You can get free Pepsi from Costco if you bring your own container.

        • Hey! LA Ice isn't that bad (from memory), I remember drinking a lot of that in my uni days.

  • You will just have to drink it straight if you don't have soft drink (coke). Not that i would mix coke with blue label anyway.

Has the price gone up a lot? Could you re sell it? Maybe gift it to someone.

    • Thought about that
But you need liqour license to sell
Perfect time to drink now with the cold weather

      • +1

Unless it’s part of a hamper

      • There are companies that will sell it for you. I've only looked into one so far though and they charge 25% of the sale price.

        • +1

          Langtons.com.au resell for 12.5% I believe.

    • +1

If you're not into whiskey, I'd definitely sell it (not formally) or gift it.

As a snob, I'd say you have to drink it neat.

As someone who's getting old(er), drink it in whatever way lets you enjoy it more. No reason to follow arbitrary rules about this that might lower your enjoyment, when the entire point is to enjoy it.

Have to second dasher86's advice though - while I personally drink whisky alone, that's mostly because none of my friends like the stuff as much. It's definitely better to drink (anything) with friends.

Just lastly, if you rarely drink hard liquor, I'm assuming you haven't drank much whisky before and maybe it'd be better to start with other whiskys, develop a taste for it, and then pop open the Blue Label. I can tell you that I couldn't tell Blue Label from Red when I first started getting into whisky.

    • Good advice, which cheaper whisky should I try first?

      • +6

Start with a Dimple on special for $40 or so. Then perhaps a Glenmorangie (usually around $70).

        • Ok thanks
I suppose the Blue Label has to wait till next winter lol

        • Great advice. Also it wouldn’t hurt to visit your nearest whisky bar and try a few out. Will cost you around 40 bucks to try 3 or 4 nips but you get to try a variety.

      • Or Jameson's - easy drinking Irish whisky. Go the no age statement or the 10(12?) year if you can afford it

    • +16

Ha! You've just convinced someone who doesn't drink whiskey to buy a 3rd bottle, you must be in sales!

      • +3

Haha, all credit goes to whoever sold two bottles of Blue Label to someone who doesn't drink hard liquor. Not one, two!

    • +3

I couldn't tell Blue Label from Red

The Red is only good for gifting to those you secretly don't like (of whom you are obliged to buy something for).

  • +3

Neat maybe a drop of water.

  • +1

If you don't drink spirits give it to someone as a gift? Suck up to boss, in laws bank manager?

  • +2

join the whisky tribe and be enlightened

  • +3

Probably as much of a crime as drinking it with coke, but I quite like whisky/whiskey with dry ginger ale.

    • +1

Yeah i've gotten into this as well. American Honey and dry ginger ale goes down really too easily

  • +4

Gaze at the receipt lovingly as you sip- it will convince you that it tastes better. This advice is based on sound psychological evidence.

    • and muse over how much of it is actually tax!

  • +1

However the frick you like. That's the beauty of whisky and many other spirits, you can drink them however you prefer, there's no right or wrong answer.

EDIT: Except single malts with cola. ;) ;)

  • +1

Gather 3 or 4 close mates to your place, grab some nice whiskey glasses - drink it neat or on the rocks and have a few lines. It'll bring out some great conversation.

Behind the anonymity of the net, I can happily admit here that it's one of my favourite past times! :)

    • +5

Oh, so you can have whisky with coke…

      • That's a good way to put it! haha

  • +2

    With a drop water

There's a fantastic Russian cocktail you can make with a fresh bottle of blue label.

    Molotov cocktail

  • +1

One icecube 4cmx4cm in size after a tiny sip.
Sometimes neat meat not do it.

  • +2

I drink whisky with ice and soda water. You can try that.

    • which whisky in particular

      • All kind of whiskies - single malt or blended. I even loved Vodka with Lemon in soda water.

How Should I Drink Johnny Walker Blue Label?

This question is more like what should I do to be happy.
the answer could be anything depending on whom you have asked the question to!…
Personally I like my Whisky neat.
you could google for some cocktail recipes if it appeals to you.

  • "Rarely I ever drink hard liquor before"

You are probably going to hate it whichever way you try.

    • Just to keep my body warm, hopefully I will grow to like it

      • +1

Alcohol actually reduces your core body temperature.

  • +1

I drink my liquor the same way I drink my tea. Orally.

  • with your mouth

  • +1

Neat is too strong and difficult to distinguish all the flavours and nuances. It has a harsh almost burning sensation on the palate.

I always add a small dash of water. The water brings out the flavours and is much more enjoyable. Try it both ways with a cheaper whisky than Blue Label and you'll notice the difference for yourself.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exc3Rzrvi7o

Adding any other flavoured liquid is almost always a bad idea if the Whisky is a premium one.

  • +1

    Slowly

  • +1

Add water, more bang for buck.

  • +1

Shouldn't you start off drinking the nastiest whisky you can find so you have a baseline for comparisons? If you start off drinking Blue Label that will be the baseline- it will merely be an average drink.

    • Yes, agreed

  • +2

Buy a Glencairn Whisky Glass. These are designed to get the best out of whiskey. They are about $10 at Dan's.

  • +3

Step 1. Don't buy Johnny Walker
Step 2. Buy a decent bottle of single malt
Step 3. Drink neat or add a dash of water
    Step 4. Enjoy

  • +1

Theres only one way to drink it ……. make it a double.
    ENJOY

  • +1

Neat, maybe with one piece of ice.

  • +1

2 ice cubes. Lightens the ethanol 'burn' for novice spirit drinkers allowing you to taste the flavours.

  • +1

    100% straight IMO.
