I am not going to vote as I am not a photographer and see absolutely no difference between official and generic ink cartridges.

I do believe, however, official cartridges tend to last a little longer.

For those interested, here is a link to generic versions of the Canon inks.

    TopBuy.com.au

    $38.65 + $9.15 postage = $47.80

thanks for link mate, have you used these cartridges before? Ive never used generic brand but REALLY REALLY dont want to spend $100 on new cartridges (when for $150 I can get a brand new printer with same features but with wireless networking built in!).

Anyone else have any issues with using generic?

(sorry to OP for hijack of thread. I realise you are trying to sell your product, but $100 is still a rip off- Canon's fault not yours)

I mostly use laser now, but in my old MP830 (which uses these carts) I've used originals, generics, refills & now it's got a CIS in it…never a drama!

My advice if you're gonna go generic or refill though, spend the $13 or so & get yourself a chip resetter off ebay, makes life much easier! :)

        • Ok, I have the MP830…. what the hell is a chip resetter?

I have a B&W laser from Canon that I'm very happy with… does by daily stuff no worries. It's just that when I want colour the MP830 is just so damn expensive to use! Love the end product though.

@UFO, it's a little plastic doohickey (tech term) that you place your refilled carts in to get around the "empty cartridge" error they throw up as they get empty! This takes seconds, a little light will come on & trust me, it will save you much grief trying software workarounds etc…money well spent IMHO! :)

    • then you've never printed the same photo out twice on high quality paper!

I've bought a couple of different non genuine inks, the colour is never the same. I've printed out with genuine then with the non genuine and lined them up, you could easily tell, i even scanned them sent them back to the supplier who offered a refund as they where that different..also some of the cheaper inks fade a lot quicker than the chroma life 100 inks (supposed to last 100 years).

Now that said, as i keep a digital copy of my pics, I don't mind too much if they aren't 100% on… i also own two printers one for genuine ink for "special occasions" and one has a CIS I use for everyday stuff.
      works out MUCH cheaper…

thought i'd seen these cheaper, they sell them at the swapmeets (they do separate them as not to many people want the two pgi blacks…) although that may have only been the 21 carts…

    Bought one.

Around $115 for the same cartridges with shipping from the usual ink places.

  • $145.00 at OW

haven't checked BigW & JB Hifi but I guess won't be much less and if any cheaper won't be less than $100.00 not to mention postage.

    • Good deal however I purchased via paypal rather than CC since the "enter details" page was not secure…

  • Someone has yet to mention a Continuous Ink System (CIS). It'll probably cost you the RRP of this current ink set, but it'll last you 10 - 20x longer, before you have to buy more ink. After that, you buy the ink by bottles, not by mLs in your standard cartridges. I haven't tried one, but have been eyeballing a set for a while.

Somebody else can explain it better haha.

    • I dont use the printer often enough to justify an external system like that…. I considered it though when I first saw the replacement printer prices!

Canon and the like should be held accountable for the extra landfill they are creating with their pricing policies. It's obvious what they are doing…. forcing people to buy entire new printers instead of pricing their cartridges at an even remotely reasonable price.

  • It really depends on what you want to do with your printer. I have tested a lot of generic cartridges and never found excellent colour reproduction with any of them. That said, if you don't print photos on your home pc (and why would you went the photo centre is so cheap) then generic is the way to go. But if you have a printer under a year this deal may be the way to go if you cook print heads etc with non genuine supplies Canon won't want to know you. But I will say if you are hard up for cash stick to generic cartridges. CIS are not worth the hassle considering you would need to print '0000s of pages per month to breakeven

    • FWIW, my CIS cost about $55…last time I checked the same dude was selling them on ebay for $42…better & betterer! :D

      • I've purchased a few cheap ebay CISS, they ended up leaking all over the place, ended up thowing the printer away! wasn't a new one anyway… ended up buying one for 120 bux a few years back still using it now, pretty awesome, only problem with them is that you have to keep the ink the same level as the printer, i once forgot and about 100 ML of ink of each colour went though the printer!

        • That sucks, yeah lucky it wasn't a new printer!

Mine's been fine, although to be honest it rarely gets used, pretty much only photos now and then. Anything else gets done on the laser! Maybe if I used it more any potential issues may surface, but as it stands I'm happy I paid $55 for something which works well enough, and that I barely use; rather than $120 for something better that would effectively now be doing very little as well! ;)

    • Yeah I was talking about more high end CIS that cost upwards of a couple of hundred. Seems the cheaper ones give the same result
