[YMMV] Called to Cancel my ANZ FF Black and was offered 20k points to hold on to it.

As per topic, I was done with my ANZ FF Black and called to cancel. Was offered 20k Qantas points extra in the next 90 days to simply hold on to the card, no minimum spend.

I realise if I was a die-hard churner I would jump ship to reset the clock but to me this is easier and I'm lazy.

No idea if this will be applied across the board or what, I get the impression they are trying to minimise churning with this offering and I guess it's worked for me.

For reference my first statement was in April this year, annual fee isn't due til next year.

    got the ANZ Qantas black and nothing was offer when I call to cancel last week, they said it is ok and wait 1 min then it is closed

    Not to mention I spend about $30K last 12 months on this card

    What did you tell them the reason for cancelling? I've just cancelled mine and they didn't offer it either. I told them I cancelled because of the foreign currency fee. It's a shame because they offer 1:1 QFF points which is better than bankwest

      Told them that I wanted to reduce my credit exposure a bit as the 15k minimum was a bit high as I was considering heading towards property purchase. They pressed to see when, I said probably not til mid next year but wasn't sure how the change in credit reporting would effect things. So a lovely woman named Anna offered 20k points to hold on to the card in the interim spruiking the other benefits it has like insurance etc.

      Perhaps I just got lucky?

    Thanks. I need to ring up and cancel mine some time. Fees aren't due for another 6 months, but there's not much point holding onto it. I'll just go back to using my citi platinum from the lifetime fee free deal.

    I'm never late for payment and I max out my card every week or so.

    I tried calling and "cancelling" for them to waive the fee. I think they wanted to get rid of me cause they started the cancellation process.

    Called last month to cancel. Was not offered points however was offered 0% BT which I took up.

    My Amex velocity platinum card is renewing end of Oct. Called last night to cancel stating I didn't want to pay the fee and can get a better value card elsewhere.
    Got given 25k velocity points on the spot if I waited another 3 days before I cancelled. Points are now in my account.
    Will call to cancel next week.
    Easy points.

    I was offered the annual fee waived for one more year for the FF Black card and half annual for the Travel Adventure card.
