Didn't work with Steam. I tried with Steamlink.

  • If I cancelled my free trial am I still eligible If I choose to buy ebay plus? I just did and got no messages about the google home being confirmed. Thanks for any advice!

    • +2

Good work: cancel first, ask questions later, read T&Cs.. never?

  • Can we pay with ebay gc?

  • My welcome email says this:

    Your eBay Plus membership

    Your membership starts on 16/07/2018.
See the eBay Plus Terms & Conditions.
Your membership can be cancelled online at any time until 15/08/2018. After this date it will be automatically renewed for AUD 29.00 for the first year.

So when it is renewed after the trial will I get a Google Home Mini as part of the $29 renewal?

    • yep

      • +2

        maybe.

        • I have confirmation from ebay via chat that my account qualifies.

        • +1

@jv: And while I believe you, other CS chat folk are saying the opposite. Nothing new for eBay to be contradicting each other.

        • +1

          @dm01:

Well if they dont send me one, I have the transcript, so they would be required to refund my subscription…

        • +1

@jv: Your reasoning doesn't make complete sense. When you joined eBay Plus last month, it was in agreement to the T&C's of July's offer, yes? So a discounted $29 fee after your trial period expires - there was nothing about about a free GHM in that offer - that's for this month's offer when paying the full $49 fee - a different offer to that which you signed up to last month.

So to claim they're not sticking to their end of the deal by not sending you a GHM when you pay a $29 fee is a bit petty - it wasn't part of the deal you agreed to.

However, because you've managed to get a chat person to say they will send you the GHM (seemingly in contradiction of their terms and prior to them getting their stories straight), they definitely should honour that pledge and send you one, and I have little doubt they'll follow through with that. They've make good on mistakes with me before because I've had the transcript.

But to claim you'd be owed a subscription refund is incorrect - if you pay the $29 it's part of last month's deal and so those T&C's are what you're agreeing to. You're just fortunate to have caught them with their pants down in getting the commitment that you did.

But, I do hope you get your GHM after paying your $29!

        • +1

          @dm01:

that's for this month's offer when paying the full $49 fee

T&C's don't make any reference to paying $49, they just refer to paying for the annual membership in August

8.1 The terms in this section 8 apply if you: (a) sign up for a free 30-day trial of eBay Plus in August 2018 and then pay the annual Plus membership fee on the day following the conclusion of the free trial period, or (b) join eBay Plus and pay the annual Plus membership fee in August 2018 (“Giveaway Qualifying Conditions”). If you satisfy these Giveaway Qualifying Conditions, you will receive a Google Home Mini, a smart speaker with the Google Assistant built in, unless you advise eBay Customer Service on the day you sign up that you do not want the Google Home Mini

Anyway, rep on Chat confirmed I'll get one when they checked my account.

        • @jv:

T&C's don't make any reference to paying $49, they just refer to paying for the annual membership in August

I never said they did. But the annual fee is $49, and has been advertised by eBay as such. You're simply lucky eBay have been sloppy in their wording, as you're no doubt aware.

        • @jv: Did you get the email, jv?

        • @dm01:

Nope, they never said they'd need to get back to me.

They just confirmed I was eligible and will ship it within 7 days of my automatic payment of the annual fee.

The only email I have is that of the transcript…

        • +1

@jv: I only ask because according to other users eBay have sent out some emails correcting what some CS people incorrectly told eBay members yesterday.

        • @dm01:

No email or messages in my account. Last message is:

          Hello ,
Thanks for contacting eBay Customer Service.
We hope that your questions and concerns were answered and resolved during our recent chat session. To help you to refer back to the solutions suggested during the chat session, we've attached a complete transcript of the session with this email. You'll be able to see this email in the My Messages section in eBay as well. However, you will not be able to see the attachment."

I think that even ebay staff confused when replying you guys chat.

    Here ar ethe conditions again:

    (a) sign up for a free 30-day trial of eBay Plus in August 2018 and then pay the annual Plus membership fee on the day following the conclusion of the free trial period, or

    (b) join eBay Plus and pay the annual Plus membership fee in August 2018 (“Giveaway Qualifying Conditions”)

    Which mean:
First case (a) You HAVE TO sign up free 30-day trial IN AUGUST (you must be a new customer) and then pay annual membership at the end of the trial (It will be in SEPTEMBER) and the giveaway is 7 days after the payment received.

OR Second case (b) join AND pay ebay plus in August (you must be a new customer). You must not only join as new customer in August, but also you need to pay straight away in August.

It's totally clear. If any ebay staff replied that those who joined free trail July (me included) and pay after the conclusion of free trial (in August) still receive the giveway, the case is (1) Ebay has serious problem with their legal staff who write these conditions or (2) the staff who replied such is not even clear about their own offer or (3) both

    • +4

You can't join eBay plus without taking out a free month, condition 8.1 (b) only means you must have a subscription live and pay for it in August. Which therefore means, all users who signed up in July, and renew their subscription in August will get it, with the $29.

What you said is that you can pay for it instantly in August, which you can't do.

    • +1

Same understanding with you. However, I joined eBay plus today but there’s no option to ‘join and pay’. It’s only free trial and then auto renew.

    • When did eBay Plus first launch? I assume they mean if you've previously signed up to the 30-day free trial and chosen not to continue with your membership and now decided you want this offer, then you would sign up and pay straight away.

Clause 8.3 I assume is for people who think they can sign up to the 30 day free trial now, cancel before payment and still hope to get the GHM.
However 8.3 also makes it confusing for people who had previously cancelled during their trial, before this offer was made public.

    Yes when it renews.
    Louise11:47 AM
Okay. I have checked on your account and I was able to see that your payment date will be on the 16th of August. Based on the Terms and Conditions, the members that will pay for the subscription fee this month will be eligible.

        • @zhuntai:

Ha ha, did you think after "Louise is typing" it would say "nah, just kidding you don't get a free Mini!" :)

  • How a new customer will be qualified if I join today and not paying until 1/9? How do we pay straight away?

    • You can't pay straight away, when you renew on 1/9, the mini promotion will get triggered.

      • I would have thought the terms state that you have to pay in Aug?

        • 8.1 (a) sign up for a free 30-day trial of eBay Plus in August 2018 and then pay the annual Plus membership fee on the day following the conclusion of the free trial period

So if you sign up now, you'll get it once the membership is due to renew.

  • I actually might have a use for the mini. Too bad I hardly buy much on eBay.

  • +1

ebay website still says its $29 see https://pages2.ebay.com.au/plus/faq and FAQ How Much Does eBay Plus cost?

You can try eBay Plus absolutely free for 30 days. If you decide it's not for you, you can cancel it at any time.

After the trial period, and for a limited time only, pay just $29 for your first year of eBay Plus. (Normally $49 per year after the trial period.)

I understand where you are coming from, I have read the
statement "Join eBay Plus and pay the annual Plus
membership fee in August 2018" and it is indeed very
confusing because there are more than 1 possibility of that
    statement.
So I am sending an email to my supervisor so we can get
    clarification within the day.

"Google Home Mini requires a Wi-Fi network, a nearby electrical socket and a compatible device. You will also need a Google account to operate the Google Home Mini …"

"Compatible device" … May someone explain why another (and what type of) device is required? I thought these gizmos only required access to a wifi and that was it. So, would I have to have a computer, laptop or iPad etc. turned on also? Thank you.

    • +2

I believe the compatible device is so you can set it up to your wifi and Google account.

      • Thank you both. Set up stage is expected but did not want to leave additional items on as well as the WiFi. We seem to have too many standby lights left on in this household!

        • Can confirm, just need a device, such as a phone to set it up, then phone is no longer required.

I understand where you are coming from and this is what we are trying to clarify as of the moment since the statement in the terms and conditions states " join eBay Plus and pay the annual Plus membership fee in August 2018" and this us more than 1 possibility.

Interesting development. I just went on ebay chat 20mins ago and she confirmed I qualify under the terms by doing the July $29 deal. I wanted it in writing, so there wasn't any grey area in case they came back and said no (which likely they may now according to the convo above).

      • Yep, I got confirmation that my account qualifies using the $29 deal..

        • Just got of of a chat from Dennise just then saying no. I bet she's had a fun day.

  • I had a trial. Cancelled it. Just re-activated my account. Paid $49.
I'm assuming I qualify. If not, I'll raise it with eBay.

  • Is the fee $29 or $49 if you sign up today? FAQ still says $29

  • My trial expires on 3/8, and I could cancel eBay Plus and subscribe using a second account (trial, then $49) if eBay doesn't give me a Google Home. I'm saving the chats here and I think having the confirmation from Louise11 is more than enough. If that's correct or not is eBay's (and Louise's) problem.

    • Let it renew and then you only pay $29.

      • Yes, that's the plan.

        • Yes, probably the biggest mistake would be to cancel the $29 trial and try a $49 trial. You would probably lose $20.

  • +1

doh! I have 3 eBay plus accounts all recently been charged the $29! ripped!

Anyone know if we can cancel the subscription and receive a refund for the amount paid similar to what Amazon Prime does?

    Found it for others wondering.

If you cancel any time after signing up for a paid membership or converting from a free trial to a paid membership, you will not be refunded your membership fee regardless of whether or not you made any eligible purchases or have taken advantage of any eBay Plus benefits since your latest Plus membership charge. You will continue to receive all eBay Plus benefits until the end of your membership year, but your membership will not be automatically renewed for a further year.

    4th account ready to go!

  • +5

    Mine renewed too early :(
Just been charged the $29 4 days ago..

I feel this is a bit of a slap in the face for everyone who got it at its inception, rather than waiting.

Don't know how I missed this though on Ozbargain? It's great because the Google Feed/News always picks up what I don't xD

  • +2

Good deal, but am going to hold off until eBay actually knows what the deal is :)
Hilarious, when a marketing department comes up with a good idea and forgets to run it past legal and accounts :)

  • +5

My ebay plus renewed on the 28th of July :(
No ebay love for the early subscribers…

  • Just joined and cancelled straight away. If you pay the first year you get the Google Home Mini, not worth it imo.
I don't see the value in eBay plus.. it's just a subset of artificial deals that they already had going anyway

    • +1

If you pay the first year you get the Google Home Mini, not worth it imo.

It's worth it if you joined last month so you'll get billed just the $29 for the first year.

  • -7

Laughs at all of those who jumped too quickly onto the eBay Plus bandwagon. I knew that they were desperate for people to sign up so I resisted signing up earlier. If I wanted annual fees I would sign up to Costco.

Now look at what they are offering. IT does not always pay to be the first.

Wait until September and they probably offer you two years of eBay Plus for the price of one plus a free Google Home Mini.

    • +1

But isn't it just as easy to cancel the trial (or get your money back if charged too early) and then create a new ebay account? This means the early adopters get those pretty good offers that occurred last month plus the mini.

I haven't bothered subscribing myself but it is slightly tempting with the Mini.

      • +1

        you will still be charged

        not refunds

      • +1

Unless you have feedback worthy of keeping (i.e. myself, with 2000+ positive feedback).

    • +2

My crystal ball is broken, and the new one I bought from eBay hasn't arrived yet. We could have this Google Home Mini deal, or we could just have the annual subscription going from $29 to $49, and then (maybe) you won't be saying something that deserves negative votes. That's the luck of the draw…

I'm very happy with my eBay Plus subscription, and all the deals and free shipping I got last month (without paying the $29 - free trial, remember?).

We can just keep creating (free) eBay Plus accounts until they offer something we want, or we can pay $29 in August and get a free Google Home Mini, which is a good deal.

Let's summarise here and see who should be laughing…

Creature A subscribed to eBay Plus 30 days ago, got free delivery and other deals for 30 days, and now has the option to:
      1) Cancel the current subscription and
1A) Subscribe again, get the 30-day trial and
1AA) Cancel again after 30 days and wait for a "better deal"
1AB) Pay $49 and get a Google Home Mini
      2) Pay $29 and get a Google Home Mini (if eBay does what it's supposed to do according to the chat transcripts)
      3) Wait and subscribe in the future (or just subscribe again in the future if the deal is amazing and worth the $)

Creature B didn't join eBay Plus last month and potentially missed good deals and free shipping, and now has the option to:
      1) Subscribe, get 30-day trial and
1A) Cancel after 30 days and wait for a "better deal"
1B) Pay $49 and get a Google Home Mini
      2) Wait and subscribe in the future when the deal is amazing and worth the $

Tell me if I am wrong but I understand that having more options is always better, unless you are a very indecisive person that freaks out with too many options. ;)
I don't think we are seeing any better than a free Google Home Mini (RRP: $59, although here we can always pay less)

  • I am hoping Amazon will do similar with free Echo Dot

    • echo is not as good/smart as google mini

      • Disagree completely after owning both. Echo is way more extendable.

        • not about extendable

          I said smart
          check reviews comparison of both
google home is generally consider more smarter in giving answers to questions

Also if you use many google services
          and have android phone

google home has excellent integration with those products (cos it's google products)
and know more about you, so can give better answers

        • @pinkybrain:

Read reviews? But he said he has owned both….

          Believe in yourself!

        • +1

The Echo has dreadful sound quality. Just terrible compared to the Mini. Although granted, the 3.5mm output, the physical buttons and the status lights are much better on the echo.

        • @Morien:
And he said " Echo is way more extendable."

Nothing mention about it being smarter

  • +4

My chat person (Krisca) is telling me that it is for those who join in August:

    Krisca14:55 PM
Thanks for that. I reviewed your account and see that you already started your trial last month. This promotion is applicable to members that has started their membership in August 2018.

    • This might be the truth. So to make it simple sign up your wife pay $49 cancel your July membership. Done and dusted

      • It doesn't seem that simple and it looks like eBay will be honoring this deal for July trials that end up paying their first membership in August ($29 after the first free month). If you do what you are suggesting you could be paying $49 instead of $29 but it's not 100% clear at this stage.

We need to hear from someone who signed up in early July (July 1?) and gets charged the $29 to see if they actually get the Google home mini?

I signed up on July 27th so I won't find out too soon.
"Member since 27 July 2018 (Your trial ends in 26 days) Next payment due 27 August 2018"

      • Then it's a $20 Google home mini..

        • +1

True, which is why I'd like to hear from someone on an early July membership so I can then decide if I want a Google Home Mini for $20 or not?

        • @JTTheMan: I was replying to the above comment. I'm on the $29 wagon. Otherwise I won't bother and cancel.

    • +3

My chat person (Krisca) is telling me that it is for those who join in August:

My chat person told me that it is for those who join in August OR for those who have already joined and pay in August.

He checked my account and confirmed I qualify. (I joined mid July)

  • +1

For people joining Ebay Plus in Aug, do they get 30 days trial? When do they pay to qualify for free Google Mini?

  • +5

For all those ppl needing clarification, I finished a live chat with a eBay CSO.

    • Members who started their eBay Plus trial in Jun/Jul & cancelled the subscription before 31st July; then resubscribe (ie. not renew) by paying the full $49 from 1st Aug onwards ARE ELIGLIBLE.

    • If your trial you started anytime in Jul ends in Aug & you renew by paying special discounted $29 fee, you are INELIGIBLE for the free Google Home Mini.

Home Mini will be sent to your default primary address 7days after full payment of sub fee (which I believe you do in full at time of joining).

The also stated there will be different promos every month for anyone joining eBay Plus 1st time. Jul was discounted fee, Aug is Mini, Sept…etc.

    • I figured that was the intention

essentially pay $49 and get ebayplus + google mini free

don't think they had intention for ppl to pay $29 and still get the google mini

      interesting about different promotions

might have better deals later on like some discount on the bigger google home products or the google home with the screen

    • What you have been told conflicts with what the eBay CSO told me.

My chat person told me that it is for those who join in August OR for those who have already joined and pay in August.

He checked my account and confirmed I qualify. (I joined mid July)

"It will be automatically be update and it will be shipped to you. The Google Home Mini will be shipped to the primary Australian address specified in your eBay account within 7 days of eBay receiving your membership fee."

  • +1

according to the ebay bot.. my google home is fully furnished

  • To be honest I'm not even sure how worthwhile eBay plus is for me. I did a bit of a search for the main benefits and some highlights are below:

eBay Plus is essentially eBay's answer to Amazon Prime, a paid subscription service that offers extra benefits to users. It provides Aussie shoppers with free domestic delivery and returns on approximately 15 million eligible eBay products.

In addition to free delivery and returns, the service promises exclusive deals and discounts that will not be available to non-members. You can also score early access to new products before they appear on the site proper.

As an added bonus, eBay Plus members will get double flybuys points on all eBay Plus purchases. There's also a "dedicated customer support team". If you regularly get screwed over by couriers and postal workers, this could be worth the asking price alone.

I'm not that big an eBay purchaser (basically the odd eBay deal on Apple Watch screen protectors and other nick nacks) and the more expensive items I have purchased have been things like 8TB hard drives where the shipping was free at the time. Other items were from the USA which I suspect I will not be getting any deals on shipping in that case.

With locking yourself to the eBay Plus account, are you also going to miss out on those odd spend $20 get $10 back enticer deals for little used account OR, you will get them but it will be on your 'backup eBay accounts' and you end up paying shipping.

I'm umming and ahhing a bit on this but unless I know that I will be spending ~$49 on shipping a year (yes I should also factor the Mini but I'm not), then this eBay deal is not right for me.

What is the reasoning for you guys to maintain (or not) the eBay plus account?

EDIT: Hmmm, I just remembered that there were some good sales where you got an additional 10% off so I might consider getting it because of things like that.

    • +3

you should also remember that when you are paying for membership
you are more likely to spend more than you would to justify the cost of the membership

In the end you may end up buying even more shit you may not actually need or normally would buy

So this membership is a clever way to boost sales for the company (ie ebay, amazon, coles, costco etc)

      • +1

In some ways yes, but its better than no membership. There will be some nice deals only offered to plus members and that's the way they are moving their business model.

Regular eBay users will not get good deals. And when the deals saturate then I will cancel. So I will give it a year for $29 it isn't much

I'm sure eBay is promoting hard to join plus. And when they get enough numbers then they won't give nice incentive to stay that's when to leave

    • Mate the only reason you want to have eBay plus is that $29 for sure you can save and cover postage costs for free.

Mainly during promotion when eBay plus only deals come out you will regret not getting it for $29

For sure you can save $29 or more so essentially it's free

    • It feels like another Costco membership and like Costco, I'll just use someone I know who has joined to get my items. Luckily I have a mate who plans to maintain the subscription.

      • It's not very nice to use your friends like that. At least offer to chip in.

        • +1

I have a Costco membership and I let my non-member mates shop with me sometimes. Because the member has to pay for everyone's items, I put them on my rewards MasterCard to get the points and they bank transfer their share back to me, then they shout me a meal at the food court afterwards (they don't check memberships there).

Is it just me who think that I don't want a device which listens and records every conversation in my home? Also recently I see these devices are given almost free of charge makes me wonder what are they after? Is it a wolf in sheep's skin?

these devices are useful if you have used them you will see

      What are they after?
      You of course.
      You are the data.

which gives them (google/amazon) better data on you
to target with ads or sell more products.

These data also give them ability improve their AI and make it even smarter.
Just look at the google assistant phone call that fooled a person demo.

If you used a mobile phone and use their services
you would have given them a lot of data already.

This is just another way to add more data about you.

Very true because my friends who use these have said that they were talking about a holiday to Fiji ( just talking ) and noticed Ads popping up about Fiji holidays few days later in their phone. While it may be super useful, its still at the initial stage and I will wait for it to evolve into something which is essential before taking it to my home.

        Thanks for the reply mate
