Asus RT-AC68U

My wifi is always dropping out and so after some research I decided that I should look into buying an Asus RT-AC68U. I am being sent a US model. Can I just remove my optus nbn supplied modem and replace it with this one? Or are there other things to it? Thanks

  • I've got this model. love it.
It's not a router/modem combo - its just a router - it's goes through your supplied NBN modem - just turn the wifi off and set up the wifi on the asus

    • You need to turn NAT off on the modem as well.

      • What is Nat and how do I go about turning it off?

  • depends on your type of nbn -
some use a vdsl modem other just need a router

    • It is FTTP NBN. Can I just straight swap the modems?

      • FTTP NBN does not use a modem. All you need is a router. The RT-AC68U will do just fine. I am running one now on FTTP NBN. Connect an ethernet cable between the active NBN UNI-D socket and the router WAN socket which is on the rear and coloured blue.

However, you seem a little unaware of the technical aspects. Are you sure that you have FTTP?

        • Sorry, I was meant to say router
As far as I'm aware, I do. I have the NBN box within my house. Isn't that FTTP?

Would I be correct to say the UNI-D socket you speak of is on the NBN box on the wall?

          Yes

        • Thanks

  • Get this document from NBN Co and it has most of what you need to know.

  • +1

Where are you buying from? I want one too!

  • Does it support VPN? If so, I can get Surf Shark and watch European Netflix again. Haha!
