eBay GIft Cards doing my head in: WARNING

a warning to those with ebay gift cards.,,
their systems are ludicrous and contradictory
its so bad im probably never going to use them again,

first of all they say the max is 8 per trans and/or $xk per month
ive used 15 per trans before on more than one occasion

the t/cs (last time I checked) say that any left over balance is credited to your ebay account, not sure if thats legal, but thats what it says, so that means that if you spend $1, the $99 remaining should go to your account, it seems it only goes to your account majorly but randomly

I have a few cards that after use have the balance show up on the card itself, leave it for a while and the credit disappears,
the balance checker either doesnt work or can only do 3 queries before it says not avaialble

the credit applied to your account, cannot be viewed at all UNLESS you go to ebay.com (USA) go to check out on an item,
when using multiple cards, lets say you have $100x5, and you enter the first 4 x $100, sometimes when you enter the fifth card, it will take out $100 from the fifth card and the first card will have the excess!
not a huge deal but very confusing, and easy for anyone to throw out the first 1 one thinking its used

my current dilemma, is that I have 3 gift cards with about $40 left on them, when I last checked the balance, a few weeks ago, now the balance is zero (and I havent used ebay), when I check my balance on my actual ebay account, the credit isnt there, PLUS 3 x $100 unused ones, that now have zero balance on them too!

surely, it cant be just me with these kind of problems

    Had similar problems, I solved it at checkout after 20 painful minutes of trying! Can't remember how but it may help mate.

      and as per usual , after the third gift card balance check it comes up with not available

      plus im still missing $300

        Mine seems to choose on the easiest route to cover the order

        For example, I have an order of $20,
        Gift card balance of $15, I apply a $50 gift card, it will untick the $15 and use up $20 from the $50, resulting in two residual balances, $15+ $30 for next time

        Yours just looks strange..

          No. I've only bought one item from ebay us.

          $10 item a few months ago.

          Do you also get the online balance checker stopping after 3 times stopping?

          After the second GC, it stops working - it's because ebay gift cards aren't exactly secure, no pin.
          So if someone wanted to, they could potentially brute force gift card codes.
          The 2 codes per limit is ebay's measure against this tactic.. you can blame ebay for having such a poor gift card implementation (10 digits without any pin codes)

    just a tip to those going through all their gift cards,

    ive bought heaps from the 10% off sales and it was confusing me checking them all

    and since the ebay balance checker only works 3 times before it says unavaible,

    if you put an item in your cart and apply the cards you want to check

    you can check as many as you want

    pretty nifty!!

      Cheers for this trick. I was nervous, thinking that my eGCs have been stolen. This has worked.
