You might want to check on the coverage area you intend on using this on as I dont believe Telstra Wholesale network gets access to ALL of telstra, the most remote sites might be limited to Telstra and Boost customers.
Telstra Wholesale is more to directly compete with the Optus/Voda networks.

    • +2

You do need to get a Aldi Simcard to test in your area.

Telstra Wholesale network is much different in Rural area as compared to Telstra Retail network.

    • +1

You might want to consider PAYG calls/text plus $95/24GB data pack (365 days with data rollover).

      I'd spend a little more for Boost's $20 for 3GB a month plan.

Boost has full access to the Telstra Network whereas ALDI only has part of it.

      • +1

If they have $10 per month for 1gb data I'll sign up at heartbeat.

      • +1

When you say "a little more", that would be 100% more.

    • Thanks everyone.

    • And Aldi’s Telstra access doesn’t include “extremely remote”.

  • Lowest prices on chocolate. Lowest price on postmaster general Aus offering. That is my grocer (2018).

  • does anyone know if can we receive texts while international/abroad on this plan?

    • +2

      Yes, international roaming is available.

  • Just to clarify matters on Telstra….

The Telstra Wholesale network which Aldi uses is a huge cutback on Telstra's retail network in all ways: capacity, coverage, priority and speed.

Telstra's superior retail network is exclusive to Telstra customers only.

Hence Aldi customers who are on The Telstra Wholesale network are NOT getting any of the benefits of the Telstra Retail network as we know it even though its owned and run by Telstra.

    • I was directly on Telstra (via Telstra) for a couple of years. I switched to AldiMobile at the start of the year, which uses the Telstra 4G network and have not noticed any difference.

The coverage will be the same, as it is the same Telstra 4G network. Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought the only difference would be billing. AldiMobile buy their network time in bulk bundles from Telstra. So how they sell it is their business, literally.

      • +1

According to the statistics 50% of those without Telstra Wholesale coverage have Telstra Retail coverage
Telstra Wholesale covers 98.8% of the population. AldiMobile uses the Telstra Wholesale network.
Telstra Retail covers 99.4% of the population. Boost uses the Telstra Retail network

When we are out of the Telstra Wholesale coverage area it always seems to be in areas with no population or the 0.6% that don't have Telstra Retail coverage so Telstra Wholesale is just as good and better value for us.

  • Thanks OP

  • Can it port my number from kogan?

  • The data allowance on the ALDImobile $99 1 Year Super Pack cannot be used on a Blackberry handset due to its operating system architecture. You should be aware that access to 19xx numbers are not available on ALDImobile plans.

Damn! Blackberry back in the draw then!

    • +3

What BlackBerry is it? That statement only applies to the old Blackberry OS Phones (7 years or older) that run on BIS.

It doesn't apply to recent Blackberry handsets as they run on Android, or even Blackberry 10 handsets as BIS only ran on Blackberry 7 and prior.

  • YAY! Today is the day!

Just grabbed one on the way to work. Had to ask for them and they were hidden under the register.

  • Bought one and activated this morning. Guy in front of me also bought one (looked like he bought an iPhone as well). Wife ported from Telstra prepaid, was all done in 5 minutes

  • I purchased one this morning. They had around 30 in the glass cabinet.

I pay the same $ for 1.2gb of data with jenee mobile. I always connect to wifi and barely use my data. went form $40 optus plan with 3.5gb to $8.20 with 1.2gb.

now i need to do the same for my home internet and i'll be gold.

    • +1

That Jenee plan for kids would have the advantage of the kids data running out each month instead of for the rest of the year without using top ups.
Jenee mobile is Post-Paid $119.29 for the first year 1.2GB/month no rollover and $5/500MB topup. Topups are either set to off or automatic and don't rollover to the next month.
You don't pay the startup fee the second year if you stay with Jenee.

This AldiMobile super pack is prepaid $99/year.
Topups are $15 for 3GB that lasts 30days.

    • +1

Aldi is also with Telstra. Generally a lot better coverage.

    • But thanks for the info on Jenee. I think it's a better match for my 10yo as she has a habit of streaming youtube and using her entire quota in one day. This at least means she won't use a years supply in one go.

    • Currently on the $9.90 plan with Jenee mobile.
How do you switch to the $8.20 plan?

Hard to find out as they don't have live. chat or email, you have to to call and be put on hold for 40+ minutes..

I would hope that once the 12 month plan runs out in October There will be an option to change to that plan?

      • im on the 9.90 one but there was a 10% off deal going on whistleout so i pay around 8 dollars something. look for a deal on whistleout and see if you can get it too.

        • Thanks, just rang and got through in under 5 minutes……
Changed over to the kids plan at $8.90 per month.
Was reminded that every change to a plan resets the auto data top ups so when it goes live I will need to re-disable it.

        • nice, im waiting for these types of plans to hit $5 and it'd be great.

  • thanks gcsteve - great deal - just got one for my mum - perfect for her

  • I got one, thanks for the heads up!

  • Thanks op! Bought one today

For all those oz bargain sim sluts, this is great… if you dual sim. Technically it also includes 5 dollar standard credit, if you activate the sim, and add the recharge when your 5 dollars worth of data/calls runs out. Yes beelong looks like slightly better value, if you can be arsed with the faffing about…

  • How are people finding the service ? I'd be switching from Optus 12gb plan if I decide to go ahead

  • AldiMobile has an issue when you recharge with the $99 Super Pack

Plan Expiry says 'Expiry Date 30/08/2019 Days Remaining 365' which is correct

However, the PAYG expiry date shows 'Expiry Date 30/07/2019 Days Remaining 334'

The PAYG Expiry date should MATCH the Plan Expiry date

    • The PAYG expiry will update but not immediately.

Originally AldiMobile PAYG expiry dates only updated after adding PAYG credit.

Now they seem to have something in place to automatically extend the PAYG expiry show in your account 365 days from the date of purchase of things like value packs and super packs but it's probably a batch job as you don't notice it for a day or so.

      • Thanks Steve

Your right, a few days later PAYG updated to match the super pack date

  • I signed up to the $99 and iMessage does not work. I called Aldi and they said it will cost me 25 cents to activate and that I need PAYG credit (minimum $15) on my account. Is anyone else having this problem with signing up? This has never happened to me before when porting across to different carriers.

    • You can get a $5 SIM pack and transfer the balance over, then you will have $5 balance.

      • How to add the $5 credit…
        https://www.aldimobile.com.au/faq/?s=sim+replacement
You'll need to buy an ALDImobile tri-cut SIM which comes with all sizes of SIM card that you might need. Once you have the SIM card, you can process the SIM replacement yourself by logging in to your My ALDImobile account. Simply select 'SIM replacement' from the menu and enter the SIM number.

        • In doing the SIM replacement is it possible to lose all your 12Gb data when transferring across?

        • @Ozjoey:
No, just make sure you do it as a sim replacement and don't try anything complicated involving porting.

If you get a new phone and need to replace the sim with one the right size, lose the sim, suspect the sim is faulty and want to replace it or various other reasons it's a simple process with AldiMobile.

Other providers tend to have their own processes.
Some have "Blank sims" and don't allow you to use spare starter pack sims for sim replacements.

        • @GCSteve: Thanks you for your help GCSteve. Much appreciated. It now works and all is good.

This deal is over. Went to Aldi to buy two packs for my old folks and was told it's over.

    • It would have been ideal for them if they don't use much data.

    • +1

Might be worth checking a different Aldi.
They still had them in the glass cabinets on display yesterday and other stores in the area have had plenty on display recently.
Look for a yellow box in the glass cabinets, sometimes the checkout staff don't realise they still have stock.

      • Good point.

    • +2

      I got one yesterday.

      • any updates on which stores have these?

        • Checked today at aldi dog swamp (WA) and they reckon they haven't had them for a while.
