Samsung Galaxy Note 9 512GB + 200GB Data for $84/Month with Optus @ Harvey Norman (Regional Areas/WA Only)

2100

Went into Harvey Norman to sign up for the $105 100GB lease plan with Optus (+20% off pm when porting from another carrier), and was told about an even better plan which isn't being publicly advertised.

$145 My Plan Plus @ $105
-20% for porting to Optus @ HN = $84/Month.
24 month (non-lease) contract
200GB/Month
6GB roaming.
Unlimited Calls/TXT overseas in Zone 1.
Total plan cost ~$2016 ($84x24).

I was told it was a 'regional' plan, but apparently all of WA is considered regional.
Seems to be running at this price for the entire month of August, and can be stacked with the 20% off deal when porting to Optus at Harvey Norman.

Seems like an amazing deal for the 512GB Galaxy Note 9 with an RRP of $1799 (once the free upgrade from 128GB expires), considering you get to keep the phone at the end of the contract. Or sell the phone outright and you have 200Gb/month for cheap.

Original 20% off deal at Harvey Norman: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/395908

EDIT: Seems that this HN 20% deal may have been extended until the 26th Aug, however keep in mind that the free upgrade from 128GB to 512GB will expire when the phone is released on the 24th

    • Of course they do?

  • Wondering if I can use a relative's address who qualifies…

    • I've been told by HN store they go off your Driver's Licence address

  • I believe they messed up with OP. I've just visited HN and told best they can honour is as below:

    • $145 @ $116 200GB (includes -20% from port-in)
    • 6GB Roaming

This is using regional postcode. I gave them the exact information from OP and they said this wasn't possible.

    • I've just asked my local and told they can do it. I'm going back at lunch to sign up.

    • +3

I rang my local HN, they advised there are 2 offers for regional customers:

      • 20% off the $145/200GB plan (down to $116) + GN9 for existing Optus customers and new customers (not porting)
      • 20% off the $104/100GB plan (down to $84) + 100GB bonus data + GN9 for customers porting to Optus
      • Which HN is this ?

    • See screenshot of plan details below (with price at $105). I believe this is the standard spec sheet. Keep in mind this doesn't show the 20% from Porting to Optus.

  • I signed up for the GN9 yesterday at HN City West (Perth) on the $125 plan @ $91. Rang them today about the $145 plan and was advised it's only 20% off, so $116. Props to anyone who can get the $145 @ $105 + 20% off.

    • or may be its this one
20% off the $104/100GB plan (down to $84) + 100GB bonus data + GN9 for customers porting to Optus

  • Sorry I am a newbie here.I am currently with Colesmobile(Optus) now. Can I do the same deal? Cheers.

    • Nope need to port out and back in

      • Thank you for reply, I appreciate it. I went HN this arvo, as “apptrack” said it's not working. btw DARWIN IS NOT A REGIONAL AREA so no extra 100GB as port in bonus. Should I feel better coz Darwin is not a regional area…hahaha.

        • +1

          Ey I'm from Darwin too.

          Know the feels.

Telstra is the only decent provider in Darwin.

        • +1

@apptrack: is a telco only working for 9 months of the year considered decent nowadays?

      • I asked form HN about porting out to someone else form virgin and then coming back to optus, but they said it won't as they have record of numbers they had on their network and you won't be considered as a port in customer.
So not sure what do as i need my number and i have also heard that carries phones are only single sim not hybrid sim? Anyone knows if it's true

  • +1

Thanks for the information Rnewton4 . I signed up today morning. It is nice price :)

    • which store?

      • hobart

    • +1

Did it worked? The regional at $84?

      • +2

        yes as above. 145 to 105 then 20% off = 84 $ amazing !

  • -2

I am waiting for the iMOTO p30. Looks pretty awesome to me if it's released at 1/3 of the price

  • Good deal - I had to go Telstra as I don’t get signal with Optus at my house.
I got 512gb note 9 with free Samsung tablet
Unlimited data plan including insurance and new phone feeling (when the 10 comes out)
    minus discount 25%
    = $149.25per month

    • +3

How did you get 25% off? I'm interested in singing up for that as well.

  • Hi there,
Do I need ID to show that I am living in the regional area?
Could anyone post a photo of invoice or paperwork so I can show it to Harvey Norman staff?
    Thanks

    • Yes, you need to show ID and they check it all. Invoice shows order before any credits, so not sure it'll help.

  • +2

Ordered mine. 84 bucks a month, 200gb, etc as OP says.
Still in two minds as to whether I sell the phone yet.
Having NBN installed on the 3rd with ABB, but might get rid of it if I can get a good deal on a data pool plan with Optus.
    What a deal!

    • which store in WA?

      • Midland

      • Malaga does it too

        • When did you do it?
          From telstra or vodafone

  • +3

I have managed to sign up for this, Harvey Norman in Albury, NSW.

    Ripper deal :)

    • +1

Haha hello neighbour. Just did myself. Took like an hour and a half while we waited on the phone to optus :|

      • For that deal it is worth the time, there was some confusion for me, Optus rep on the phone was trying to add a $7 handset repayment to the $84. I had a few calls back to the store after initially accepting this (still a good deal), but now it is definitely $84 monthly total.

My phone still hasn't ported yet. Will follow up Monday…

      • Where do you sign if i could know?

        • Harvey Norman in Albury can do it

        • @MrTurkey: i am going to the harvey norman in wagga, hopefully they can do the deal. Do you get wireless charger or skin cover with the plan?

  • +1

I made a slightly different deal.

I got the $40 off for the regional discount and the 10% student discount to stack. Making it $94.50 a month for me. I was already an Optus customer so no 20% off for me. You just have to message online chat team.

I also picked up the iphone X in 256, which I just sold for $1400. This makes my plan $36.31/ month.

TLDR; $40 regional stacks with student 10% discount. Ask online chat team for offer.

    • For the student discount, what do you need to do? Just talk to chat and they'll send out a voucher code to an .edu address?
Or is there any other jargon along with it?

      • Yeah that's it, i just told them my email. Previously I had to give them the code sent to my student email but this time it I didn't.

  • Does anyone know what 6gb autoroaming mean? One off 6gb over 2 years? 6gb per month?

    • +1

      per month

      • I think I'm sold. Had a few Samsungs before but decided not to use one again after trying out Huawei. Samsung cameras just don't last for some reason, whereas my 6P is still running like a tank even after 3 years. But this deal is just way too tempting.

        • Since when do Samsung cameras not last? I take probably around 100 photos a day with my job & My SG3 SG5 SG7 Cameras all worked fine(lots are blurry but that's usually from me rushing), only replaced phones as they became slow(SG3 especially) & still use the SG5 daily (runs Diagnostics app for cars) for me it's usually the battery that usually fails!🤔

        • @Micko179: Well that's great to know. Batteries are easy to replace. I hope that's going to be the case for Note 9. The cameras on the few galaxy I've owned became blurry overtime, and it's not because of the glass covering the lens getting scratched.

  • +1

    Yep, confirmed working in Lithgow.

    Exactly as op described.

Kinda scary….i was waiting for the 'catch'.

  • Just signed up for the plan. Amazing deal!

    • Is it in WA?

      • Yes @ the O'Connor store. Can't get my phone until Friday (hopefully) but I have the Sim ATM.
If you need a cheap porting sim JB HI-FI have a $2 boost sim for $1

        • That's nice! Did you call them first before you signed up? Or just ask in the store? I hope they honour it here NOR.

        • @AirJordan23: I called up first and double checked with the store. It should be fine.

        • Thanks @Lockster:

  • Would appreciate some advice.
Unfortunately I can’t access this deal at the moment as I’m with Virgin Mobile.
So, I’m thinking my only option would be to port out from Virgin to either Telstra or Vodafone on Monday. Do you think it’s likely if I started the porting process early Monday morning it would be finished in time before Harvey Norman shuts on Monday afternoon?
Kicking myself for only just finding out about this!

    • Boost to optus took me 3 hours today.
Now I just have to wait for the services and billing to kick in.

    • I'm in virgin as well but HN said porting out from them and coming back won't count as they have a record of numbers they had. But anyways i ported mine out and gonna find out if i can still get the deal tomorrow. Port in only took half an hour during business hours.

      • How did it go? did you manage to get the deal? I am planning to go this weekend.

        • So I got ported out to telstra from virgin and went in to HN, when they asked who I'm with I said telstra prepaid, and that's all. Got it for $84.

        • @shan88: Thanks Shan88.

    • This is the only thing putting me off buying a note 9. May just wait another year

  • +1

Got the deal for Note 9 $84/month 200gb data @ Harvey Norman Armadale WA. Cheers

  • Is this deal still possible? According to optus website the 145 plan is no longer reduced… Also it says on the choosing plan page that no other discounts apply

    • this offer has nothing to do with the optus website, it's a promotion offer from HN

  • I don't have an account to port, any suggestions for the cheapest month to month plan I could sign up for to get the port over discount?

    • Don't need a month to month.
$2 sim from boost ($1 @ jb hifi)
      Boom cheap number

  • Got one today kudos to the fellow OZb i met @HN west perth

    • I thought no porting on a Sunday?

      • The sim wont be activated until you get the device.

        • +2

Lol my sim is active and I don't have the device?

        • The moment your service is ported. you are good to use the sim. Device in this case Note 9 is on Pre-order

  • +2

Called Harvey Norman today (Sunday) and they said the 20% porting in HN discount ends on Monday 20th August! Better get in quick if you want this ripper deal!

  • I signed up $84 plan for iPhone X 64gb(100gb) ($125-$20-20% discount) yesterday @HN Domayne. Today seems to be last day for this offer.

Also brought Apple watch 3 42mm GPS only for $429($499-$20 discount-$50 HN Gift card). Sales guy offerred $30 iphone X case for free.

I was wandering if $84 plan mentioned in the agreement. I see $105 plan and 20% discount but total amount is $2520 for 24 months, instead of $2016.

Can anyone confirm, what it should be.

    • +2

Rep at HN told me that 20% port will be applied on my first bill but just in case it wont show up then I will need to contact HN.

      • +1

        I got the same info

      • Thanks, Will wait for first month bill.

    • Why did you go with that plan instead of the iPhone X 256gb with 205GB of data for $84 per month?

      • PostCode 2216 doesnot come under regional area. So I left with only option

        • Ah sweet. Guess some of us are lucky living in outback WA.

    • It will always show the price before discount is applied. Check your bank account and see how much is deducted after the first cycle. And merciless is right, why are you not on 200gb data per month? We spoke to 2 different sales staff from the same store by the way, and the first one said no raincheck for iPhone, 100gb data, $90+ for iPhone 256gb, offer extended till Tuesday, and the second one said raincheck for any phone, 200gb data, $84 for any phones, offer ends Friday. Shows you how unregulated the staff and deals really are… They just do whatever the hell they want.

    • My contract generated from Optus system also still shows 105 per month without the 20% discount, even though I actually received a message from Optus saying the 20% discount was applied.

  • Anyone had any luck with this offer in Midland WA? Was going to head there today and try. Hopefully my credit rating will be alright.

  • +1

Got the deal today. 1 Note 9 for me and an iPhone X for my wife. All phones can be rainchecked. The sales guy said it might be ending coming Friday (25/08), unless Optus changes its mind. This is a crazy deal man… Even the sales staff find it hard to believe. Thanks so much for sharing!

    • Did you ask for $50 harvey norman complimentary gift card?

      • What is this complementary Harvey Norman Gift Card?
I am about to get the plan.. Will ask but will be great to get a reference of some sort.

        • I bought apple watch 3 42mm gps only($499) along with iPhone X. So I got $20 discount + $50 harvey norman gift card + $30 iPhone X case.
So basically watch 3 price comes down to $429 and got iPhone X free case. So there is nothing wrong, if you insist, you will surely get gift card.

      • Nooooooooo why didn't you tell me 2hrs earlier? Haha… All good I'm happy with the deal still.

    • The latest dates I got were:
      - HN 20% discount ending 25/8
      - regional offer ending 2/9
      - Samsung Note 9 free memory upgrade pre order before 23/8.

  • Anyone know if there is a cooling off period to get full refund? I'm looking to use the 200gb as replacement for my rubbish ADSL, but not sure if Optus 4g plus is any good.

    • 30 days.. Optus Network Guarantee.. Just google that..

      • Thanks. I picked up a Optus USB dongle today to test the speed. Pretty poor at my place actually. About 20mbps download vs about 150mbps with Telstra on S8. I was told the USB dongle was 4G plus, but I'm not sure if it's taking the full 4g advantage.

It's still better than my ADSL, but not heaps better as I was hoping.

  • +1

Ordered one! Hopefully reception is as good as Telstra where I work out in the country side…

The phone and sim gets sent to your address, there no store pick up I was advised, not even a Sim card! Hopefully I get it on Friday in the mail as I go overseas on Saturday morning and it would be nice with that international roaming…

  • I signed up today.

iPhone X 256gb on the $145 plan reduced to $84 (excluding student discount) after both optus and HN reductions.

Staff member knew about the deal and had signed up about 5 customers on these deals during the day. Purchased from Malaga, WA.

I purchased a $2 Boost mobile pre paid sim card from Coles for $0.80 (was on sale and didn't realise it). It's on the telstra network… And on the back of the pack it had the sims mobile number so I sifted through multiple ones to find an easier number to remember, which I recommend. Some other carrier sim cards didn't have a number on the back of which they provide you a number when you activate the sim.

So in the deal I got:
    iPhone X 256gb Silver @ $84/m ($145/m plan)
    200gb data
    Unlimited calls/text etc…

He said many people signed up for the 64gb model under the $105 plan but he said this one was the best value (regarding iPhones). Luckily he had one in Stock so I got that one, he said the majority of the other sign ups were mailed to the person or to the HN store for pick up… May be worthwhile calling up stock at stores prior to picking one up, unless happy to wait for it.

Additionally, the manager mentioned the 20% off by HN has been extended to 26/08/18.

    • When did activate the boost SIM?

      • I purchased it, activated it online (takes up to 4 hours) but about 20 minutes later I got an email saying it was activated.

        • nice! I was there this morning but Vodafone number didn't worked, which is a bit surprising.

        • @AirJordan23: it should. I ported 2 Vodafone numbers this morning. All 3 staff I spoke to gave us conflicting information regarding the deal. It's weird. I suggest you try speaking to another staff if not just go to the next HN store.
