Perhaps a sign that pre-orders didn't go as well as Samsung wanted.

    MT.

    • +2

Interesting considering the Blue and Copper variants sold out in the Sammy site for preorders.
Maybe not enough through the Brick and Mortar stores.

      • +1

Ocean Blue pre-orders completely sold out at JB-HiFi and Harvey Norman, have to wait till end of September to get back in stock.

    • +2

Well it's no secret that people are not upgrading as quickly and/or turning away from expensive flagship devices altogether.

      • +5

After my experience with Google Pixel 2 (a phone that cost twice as much as my previous two phones), it would take a lot for me to pay as much for a phone in the future.
As much as I like the camera, it's a big premium to pay when the rest of the experience has been quite underwhelming.

        • For me, camera and battery-life on my Pixel 2 XL have been really good.

        • +2

@batrarobin: Yeah the battery life on my Pixel 2 XL has been the stand out feature. Goes all day, all night and into the next morning if I need it to and I'm not exactly a light user.

Camera is also awesome, as is stock android, updates, 3 yrs support, unlimited photo/video backup etc.

I would never pay RRP for it but it's still one of the best phones out to date.

        • +3

          @pennypincher98:
I'm using the normal (small) Pixel 2.
Camera is obviously incredible however, battery life is a downgrade from my previous phone (Z3C).

Stock Android is actually what I find to be the worst part about this phone.
Coming from Sony's Xperia phones, stock Android is basically the Android I was using previously but with a heap of the small but incredibly useful features stripped out.
Want an equaliser? Hey, you get to go download a third party one which won't integrate as well.
Want to hide your hotspot SSID? Too bad! Not going to happen.

Quick software updates are great, but what has that brought me, so far? A restructured notification bar to accommodate a notch which my phone does not have, the removal of Wi-Fi network quick select from notification area. Great… I wonder what else they have 'fixed'.

I hope another company can release a phone which can meet or exceed the camera capabilities of future Pixel phones because a good camera is very important to me but I do not look forward to owning another Pixel/stock Android phone.

        • @O15: Videos why hiding the hotspot ssid is important to you?

Also timely updates bring you regular security patches, new features and bug fixes. Other manufacturer's take their sweet time or don't bother.

        • @O15: I'll just point out one thing:

the removal of Wi-Fi network quick select from notification area

You know if you long press any icon in the quick notification area it'll go to the settings of that notification. Which I find works better than the limited info from short tapping before. (I only just found this out recently btw and by accident)

Also the pill shaped home button is so useful if you can work it - especially when using one handed.

        • +2

          @Trishool:

Videos why hiding the hotspot ssid is important to you?

I'm not really sure what you're asking.
If you're simply asking me why I want to hide my SSID, it is because I like to be able to turn my hotspot on and not have it show up in everyone's list of available networks and because my phone form four years ago, running Android from three revisions ago can do this.
I know it does not make my hotspot any more secure, that is not why I want this feature.

        • +1

          @pennypincher98:

You know if you long press any icon in the quick notification area it'll go to the settings of that notification.
I too accidentally found this on the first day I used Android 9.
It is not as convenient and there is no reason why they couldn't have both.

Yes, it may only be a minor inconvenience over the previous method however, regardless of how small a step backwards it is, it is still a step backwards.

        • @O15: for me it's no different. The only thing is it opens a new more detailed settings compared to just a smaller one.

How can you possibly have both?? You know how annoying that would get? Sometimes the short menu and sometimes the settings because the only thing separating a long press and short press is literally a few milliseconds.

        • @pennypincher98:
Easy, one is a tap the other is a long press.

        • @O15: a tap toggles on/off. Now that would be a real inconvenience if they took that away.

        • @pennypincher98:
It makes my Essential phone look even better value these days, around 1/3 of the price. The camera is a weak point in comparison to the bloated price of Pixel2 XL.

        • @pennypincher98:
A tap on the drop down arrow, just like how it used to work. 😣

    • +4

At that price, I'm not surprised.

    • +5

      MT

      Malcolm, is that you??

  • +2

    Nice work by Mobileciti!

    Don't forget cashrewards 1% cashback!

  • +20

Is that price correct? $1500 for a telephone?

    • +5

Yeah otherwise not enough to show your status.

    • +2

I can't believe it either, what a bargain. Better get in quick

    • correct Wireless Cellular telephone device !!

    • +4

"Telephone" is a bit of a stretch, more like a portable computer that's also able to make phone calls. If you want a "telephone", I suggest you duck down to coles/woolies and grab one of those $9 telstra specials that nobody wants to buy.

    • What's a telephone :)

  • +6

I got it preordered diectly from Samsung and got 10% cashback from cashreward. So it is like paying $1350 for it. Not sure if it is worth it, but what is offer with the Note 9 is a lot better than the specs of the Note 8 when I got it a year ago.

    • You got Note 8 a year ago and now you are getting Note 9, what do you do for a living?

      • Investment Banking? Capital W?

      • Probably works for Westpac.

      • Me too and I'm not working at the moment, but I love my expensive toys :)

    • I got one also but haven't opened it yet. On paper its nice but for my uses, the N8 was doing fine. Still have 14days to decide, only gotcha with samsung is they only refund unopened or faulty devices.

  • +3

This is getting ridiculous. Why would anyone pay this much for a phone? I'd rather get a tablet/laptop/desktop instead at this price.

    • +15

To get da chicks bro !

    • +2

Why would anyone spend over $1k on a laptop?

      • +9

To impress da geeks bro !

      • Because the difference between laptops far bigger than phones. I'm gonna bet most people won't even notice a difference in functionality between the Note 8 and Note 9.

        • Pretty sure the extra hours of battery life and stereo speakers, better fingerprint placement will help…..I mean if you don't use your phone for much then that's cool you can buy cheap ones. Just like done people don't need powerful laptops etc. Done people might just like laptops or phones and are happy to spend extra.

      • Because they are far more powerful than this phone…

        • +3

I don't need it so it would be stupid for anyone to buy anything more than what I need right?

    • The fact when the RRP of my phone is worth more than the RRP of my laptop…

Of course I didn't pay anywhere near RRP for either but they are both good for my needs.

    • Enjoy putting it in your pocket and taking quality pics and selfies…oh wait….:D

Lol not sure why you're comparing completely different device categories with different use cases and benefits. I get your point, but the comparison was way off. You could have also said that you'd rather get a 2nd hand car for $1.5K than pay that amount on a phone too.

  • +3

Already have a Note 8. I don't think it's worth the upgrade, especially with 5G on the horizon. I think I can hold out until the next Note.

    • 5G to me sound like a compelling upgrade for my next phone.

      • There'll be great network-subsidized sales to promote 5G adoption, just as for 4G. I estimate in 2 years.

      • +1

Why do we need 5g again?lol
        ..

        • So Malcolm can say that the state of the NBN was the will of the Australian public and not his legacy. Good riddance!

    • +1

5g will be great, but if it’s anything like 4g there’s no rush to get first gen hardware for it.

    • It looks like phone makers are struggling to make significant upgrades every year.

  • +10

A lot of ozbargainers cry poor but I reckon they are secret millionaires, stashing all their savings in mattress, pillow cases and in the cavities of their roofs. How else can you afford to buy Note 9, Apple X, Blitzwolf chargers and Eneloop batteries??

    • +7

True ozbargainer stash eneloop, not cash

  • +4

If you can get the HN Optus 200gb plan for $84/month then that made the note 9 a worthy deal. At $1499 outright doesn't seem like much of a deal.

  • +1

Oh boy. Gonna Broden up this awesome deal. If I buy 10 I've saved $3000 right?

    • +1

"Purchases are limited to 1 per buyer"

      • Noooooo. Guess I'll have to invest in some sort of luxury car instead.

  • +5

Just no way this phone worth that much. Half price is more reasonable

Holding onto my S7 edge til next year!

    • Next year S10 will probably be 2000$….

      • +7

        Or even $2,000

    • $2500 for 1 tb version. Aussie dollar be trading at 60 US cents by then, so that won’t help.

    • im rocking my S7 until it dies and might get an S8 when the pricing is reasonable

  • +3

Does anyone know if this is compatible with my Mercedes A200?

    • +1

No, you need to upgrade to the C class

    • +1

      Only AMGs

    • lol, if you want a serious answer (and you don't!) you will need a 2016 version onwards

  • +3

do I play fortnite on this or a shiny new RTX🤔

    • +1

Just play Roblox it's better anyway

  • -1

    Here we go again…lol..

  • +1

Can't see why people are complaining about a $1500 phone that does everything, well almost. I paid more than that for a phone that only make and receive calls 23 years ago.

    • -1

Because there are phones that are just as good for half the price. They are no better than Apple now.

      • +2

Note series has always filled a specific niche and Samsung has commanded a higher price.. nothing new here, all oems are asking higher prices on their hardware now compared to a few generations ago. Hard to compare the note against other phones really. Phones at half this price will be missing a lot of features the note have and will be poorer in certain areas that Samsung are class leading in. If features like the stylus, DeX, the extra storage, liquid cooling to help limit throttling or having the best display on a phone are important to you then you’re going to have a hard time find anything as good at any price. Yeah you can find better value if those features you don’t need/want or you willing to compromise.

      • I've had a few phones that are just as good for half the price but they are not, the camera is shit, the screen is decent at best and if you have any issue your screwed. Also if you break your screen it'll be harder to find someone to fix it and it will be more expensive because they are the only ones doing it.

I'm now waiting to see the Pixel 3 (not XL) as I'm more interested in the camera and I'll get the Note if the Pixel is not worth it.

        • Here's a good recent video on the subject.
          https://youtu.be/4_jtQ99R30c

Doesn't say they are just as good, but no doubt offer great value if you willing to forgo the features and compromise on the inferior aspects to save some cash.

        • The LG G4 came out 3 years ago and is now $200, yet still has one of the best smartphone cameras. No need to sacrifice camera quality.

      • +1

nuttapillar - please tell me what $750 phone is just as good as a note 9.

        I won't hold my breath.

    • Was that with Optus, or Telstra?

  • -5

I will take one if it is 800 bucks.

    1499 for Samsung? ? Meh… nope!

I would rather wait for one plus. God know it doesn’t worth 800 after 3month.

Will be heavliy discounted soon, let’s see

    • +10

The Note 8 sells for around $800 only after the Note 9 came out. So you’ll probably wait a year until the Note 10 comes out for the Note 9 to drop to the price you want. Of course you’ll end up making the same ridiculously generalised comment in broken English when the Note 10 comes out as well.

      • -7

I think u were wrong, note8 was heavily discounted during Xmas.

        • How much was it during Xmas?

        • -1

@El Grande: I bought one at high 800 by using the link in ozbargain.

No matter how many haters r devoting me, I m just saying the truth. Samsung products are too much marketing. No as perfect as its ad described.

        • @pzhon: all you stated was your personal feelings which you are entitled to, but don’t try to pass it off as the truth. People down voting you aren’t doing it because they’re haters, It’s because they/I disagree with you. Big difference.

        • @spiff: when xmax comes, will reply U if there is a discount…

        • @pzhon: Don't bother. I have no interest in buying a Samsung phone which is why I haven't upvoted this deal. I'm only interested in calling people out for making generic, irrelevant statements.

        • @spiff:

          price dropped to $1400+…
          Remember what did I tell u ?

          https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Au-Stock-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-9-Sin…

  • Wow this is so cheap, this is a great bargain. I better buy 10 asap before this runs out.

  • No one with half a brain pays full price for a Samsung on release, they tank within a few months.

    • Thanks to Whirlpool, I bought mine for $1287.25

  • -1

So expensive… Better suited to ozripoff.com

  • +1

What the!? It's getting closer to 2k now for Samsung phones… Exceeding the Apple prices.. My s8 is doing fine.

    • +3

The s8 release price was $1199, s8+ $1349, note 8 $1499. The Australian dollar was around 80 US cents then vs 73 cents now. Doesn’t seem like a huge difference in release prices considering the improvements made to note 9 vs depreciation in currency.

    • +2

It's actually cheaper, not by much but that until you compare the storage on it.

      Iphone X 64GB $1579
      Note 9 128GB $1499

      Iphone X 256GB $1829
      Note 9 512GB $1799

  • Do you reckon its smarter to lease? 2-Year-old S7 can be had for $270 on eBay. Saving over 24Months is $240 and you save interest on that $240. What do you guys think? Also, there is the $99 upgrade when S10 comes out (in 12 months time) and the price of these phones takes a big hit (due to the new design)

Also, does the Harvey Norman offer works with the lease plans?

    • Personally, I'd say that if you can't buy it outright go for something that you can.

  • is it a dual sim Australian stock?

    • yes

  • Just got my preorder note 9 yesterday and it has the Exynos chip sadly.

Really wanted sd845 as the Exynos is known to cripple performance compared with the snapdragon variant.

If I was buying to outright, I'd be making sure to get the snapdragon version even if it meant grey import.

    • Importing is the only way of getting the Snapdragon version, we only get Exynos variants of Galaxy and Note devices in Australia. It’s been this way for many years.

    • Snapdragon variants are found largely in markets where CDMA is in use, e.g. China, USA. So you'd need to import N9600, N960U1 etc
