Telstra Cancelling Freedom Plus and Pre-Paid Plus Plan

Just received sms from Telstra, saying they are cancelling older pre-paid plan, e.g. Freedom Plus and Pre-Paid Plus. We will be forced to accept the new Pre-Paid Extra plan.

Usually I just recharge $30 per month, mainly for the remote coverage and inclusion of international calls. But with the new plan, international calls will only be included if I recharge $40 per month.

Thanks and Bye bye Telstra.

I have a number on freedom plus as well, haven't received a text yet, does yours state what day they turn off the switch?

mine will be switched on 10th Oct. They are doing it by batch. You might get the sms later.

Damn it, that means credit me2u won't work anymore

End of an era. First they took the Google Play credit, then they took my soul. I mean, no, I was actually looking to switch one of these days anyway, since they lifted the double dip. However, yes, the cm2u is why I've been hanging on. I use it to top up my mother's phone.

  • @OP. Do you have any remaining credit? What do you normally do with your remaining credit?

    • I used to use the credit for Play Store. Since the cancellation of 3rd Party payment, I created 1 Long Life plan, and use creditme2u to keep it active. My friends and relatives been using that long life sim during their short visits.

      • Did Telstra say what will happen to your unused credit? Will it still be against your account? I think pre-paid extra plan is not compatible with credits.

          Q. Can I keep my bonus credit on the new plan?

          A. Yes. You’ll retain your bonus credit once you move to Telstra Pre-Paid Extra®.

I think it will become Extra Credit, which means you only can use it for IDD/Roaming

        • @ausdday: I am in the same boat as you, although I haven't got my sms yet.

I have accumulated about $360 in credit. Not sure what to do with it.

        • @ausdday: Did they say if you can can keep your expiry? Hope so as i have a sim that doesn't expire until 2025 great in my dual sim phone but charges are expensive if they shift me to a new plan with that expiry i will be happy.

        • @geek001:

well, i guess you can put up ads in classified section and see anyone can take some from you, with some discount of course.

otherwise, best option will be to buy roaming pack the next time you go overseas.

          @coin saver:

There is no mention of expiry date in the sms, nor the website. You might need to call up telstra :)

        • @geek001:

Change to Long Life Plus and run it down from there.

      • Ok, I am going to need some guidance. How does creditme2u work with the Long Life Plus plan? Do I get another sim card, and just keep sending the credit over every 2 weeks to extend the expiry date?

Are they actually cancelling it? I find it interesting as usually they don't? I think I still have a friend thats on free calls and text to 5 telstra numbers, and another I think is still on 1c text? It might be for people after a certain date?

    • Telstra did announce a few months back they were heavily simplifying their plans from thousands down to like 20 or so. So it does seem like this time they will be doing forced migrations instead of leaving grandfathered plans alone.

  • Just been on the phone to Telstra's 1258880 number.

Was told that they have been getting a lot of calls about the
"Hi, from 10 Oct we're moving you to a new plan, Telstra Pre-Paid Extra…etc" texts.

The Telstra rep said it was an automated message, and that I can ignore it as they won't be forcing me to change if I don't want to. They gave me a reference number.

Not sure if I believe them, anyone else get the same response?

      Hmm I wouldn't believe them.

Try get it on live chat

  • Left Telstra Pre-paid and moved to Kogan 365 because of them removing third party billing(such as Google Play). Even the service wasn't as reliable in signal and stability in my area(Not sure why?)

  • I received the same SMS.

That means I will only have $5 credit for CASH COW on a $30 recharge.

I am now looking for a Telco provider which allows premium sms for CASH COW, prepaid.

    Any suggestions?

  • TRY to go on 12 month $49 companion (20gb) with POM (peace of mind data) with -$10CR for $39 a month and ask for the bonus 5gb of data I see some getting for 'loyalty' or just because they asked…

does not inc overseas calls, see other BYO plans that do if thats an issue or just whatsapp/skype
