      head tracking

      kinda important

  • Of course, right after I paid $319 for the BigDub bundle 2 hrs ago. Crazy price this is.

  • What’s Amazon return policy?

    • I believe most things can be returned, unopened, within 30 days. Though not sure what the exceptions are to that rule.

  • Does EB or JB price match amazon?

    • Good luck finding a store that still has V1 consoles left

    • Not usually from my experience

  • +1

FYI You need to choose the $277 camera + PSVR, which then reduces to $199 in the chart. I didnt realize and thought it would be added on at the checkout, dont be like me.

  • +1

Damn you ozbargain I never wanted a VR, however I just bought one….Time to dust off the PS move controllers.

    • +1

      ^^^ exactly this

  • +1

    bought! thanks OP

  • damn this is cheap. almost bit until i realised i'd need PS Move controllers for the main game i'm interested in (superhot VR). could pony up for the Move controllers separately but at that point i'll just put the money toward a Switch.

feel like i deserve something for successfully resisting such a solid bargain.

    • Move controllers can be had cheap, many people selling PS3's don't realise they're still relevant.

      • +1

So you can use PS3 move controllers with this bad boy running on the PS4?

        • +1

          It's the same move controller.

  • All we need now is a good deal on move controllers.

    • I'm wondering if they're even necessary. I havn't heard great things and they're only compatible with a handful of games.

      • It seems like Superhot VR is kind of the killer VR game right now and that definitely needs them.
        Beyond that I'm not sure

      • +1

After biting the bullet on this deal, I was googling this same question. Consensus seems to be that you get the most out of the experience with the controllers. However, I'm personally not going to rush out and get them.

  • Great price but now remorseful that I paid $360 for it last November … 😭

  • So - What games are recommended for the PSVR? Is it like the wii where all you need is "PS WORLDS" or whatever people are recommending?

This is tempting just for the novelty value and to dust off the PS4. Plus I think my 7 year old will get a kick out of it, and could use it with her friends.

    • Astro Bot is coming out in a few weeks.

  • the best thing about this deal is it just above jb's offer, which was as usual indifferent….

Oh my god, somebody STOP ME!

  • This is very very tempting at this price point, but I'm trying hard to ignore it. Have such a backlog of titles across my various consoles - both living-room-based and portable gaming. Curious to try out VR (and do actually own GT Sport - still sealed), but can't see it getting a lot of use at home. Also, just invested in racing wheel, pedals, shifter for the XB1 and house is getting over-run by gaming gear!

    • Drivehub will make that Xbox gear compatible with PS4 ;)

      • Thanks matey - will check it out!

    • Yeah more plastic junk taking up space. I’ll wait for VR to get even better in a few years. I have spare move controllers tho…

  • +3

I'm going to repost this here for all of you VR landlubbers.

There's a trick to it that will get you in your VR legs in no time.

1/ run a fan so you can feel the air gently on your face whilst using it (this will also help with perspiration on your face which also happens unless you're in a cold room!)

    2/ ginger tablets!

VR sickness is basically the same as sea sickness. Remedies for one will help with the other. You'll develop your VR legs in no time.

  • +1

VR Worlds is back at $20.99… go go go

    • +1

Well spotted. Got the $9 difference refunded :)

      • How did you go about that?

        • Phoned customer support.

      • I hit up chat and they were adamant that "they were not authorised to match prices, even [their] own". They instead offered to cancel the package mid shipment, and I could place a whole new order (somehow that's easier and less expensive?).

Anyway, they offered a $5 credit for the trouble. I probably could've pushed it further, or could simply return the game after I get it and place another order, but probably not worth the $4 :)

  • -2

I initially understood that I'm getting two cameras (even if there's no point in having two), but it's not the case here, is it?

    Plus Bonus PlayStation 4 Camera

This suggests there's an additional, second camera, doesn't it - I thought that every PSVR comes with a camera (as it's required, but after further reading I don't think it is).

This is basically bare "PSVR + Camera for $199 shipped", true? Not "some PSVR bundle (ie. with camera bundled) + one more camera". If so, the deal changes completely to me. Still good.

EDIT: Also, VR Worlds are $29.99 again. I should wait, I guess?

    • PSVR doesn't come with the camera unless you get a specific bundle. When I got my first one, I already had a camera for the PS4 + move controllers from a PS3, so I benefited from the core unit and not having to pay extra. This is the core unit + you add the camera and it ends up being free

      • is this bundle better deal?
since you only pay extra $80
        but get

        -V2 (version 2 of PSVR)
-two included games (PlayStation VR Worlds (Full Game Download)
        Gran Turismo Sport)

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/404127

        • @Rockah
          Yeah, that's what I figured eventually : ) Thanks.

          @pinkybrain
Additional $80 for V2 version, that's it - see previous comments re differences and opinions if it's worth it.

        • @pizzaguy:

Do you think it is worth the extra $80?

if you factor in the two bonus games + get a V2
seems like $80 is not that much more
considering that you would need to buy some games anyway..
and those two games might be worth $40 total.

also the V2 seems a bit better with less wiring for the headphone
          and HDR passthrough etc..

          What do you think?
did you buy the amazon one yet?

          Which comment?

        • In my opinion it's a better deal as it's only $30-$40 more expensive compared to this deal if you also want to buy VR Worlds and Gran Turismo Sport.

Most of the benefits for the V2 are here:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/404253#comment-6391028

If you don't want VR worlds or GTS see if those benefits are worth the extra dollars to you.

Even though the gamesmen ebay link shows no current stock it has been topped up a couple of times since that deal was posted on OzB.

        • @prxy:

yeah i saw a youtube video comparison

also the controls on the headset instead of on wiring
which means a bit less weight and you don't need to fiddle around for the controls when you know it is directly on the headset.

and the headphones cabling is much better on the V2.
The less wiring you have around your head the better
since when you moving around, it can be annoying..

          Which deal did you buy?

Even though VR gaming will be pretty cool..
I tried the google cardboard, and it was an interesting experience, no doubt it would look better on the psvr..

The main concern is the motion sickness/nausea feeling.
I get the sick feeling in stomach whenever I play normal FPS games already..
The problem is there is no way to try it out until we buy it…

        • @pinkybrain:

I bought the V2 deal posted by Being Askhole from the Gamesmen on eBay.

I didn't have any VR games so was happy to get VR Worlds and GTS.

I also have 4K HDR tv so didn't want any issue with V1 passthrough such as YUV420 and can't stand stuffing around and extra clutter with cables and switch boxes.

My TV only has 4 hdmi inputs which are almost taken and so didn't want to have to use 2 hdmi inputs with V1 method.

So for only $30-$40 extra it's a no brainer for me.

Are there no stores near you willing to Demo a model so you can try it out re motion sicknesss?

        • @prxy: Not sure of any stores that do psvr demos anymore

the usual places are ebgames or maybe gamesmen
          not sure about jbhifi

I haven't really seen any stores that have psvr demo booth yet..

if you know which stores, let me know…

          From what I seen online,
motion sickness on these things are pretty common
Some people manage to get over it a bit when they play more
          but still experience it occasionally.

And some people given up on it

It seems to occur more on the psvr, due to how it is implemented compare to other vr devices..

How about you with regards to motion sickness?
Do you find VR experience good and normal flat gaming boring now?
Would you recommend getting psvr and vr gaming in general?

Also is 3D movies / VR movies any good on these devices?

        • +1

@pinkybrain: I managed to stop myself purchasing the Amazon deal on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Then, in the early hours of Monday morning, I caved!! Was too cheap not to dip a toe into VR.

I'm actually more curious about VR than 'needing it', so to 'test it out' I figured ~$188 (after Cashrewards cashback) for the VR1 set was all I needed… and I already have a sealed copy of GT Sport at home anyway that I picked up in another Ozbargain deal in recent months.

I think the evolved enhancements of V2 are probably worthwhile if you're likely to be a heavy user of the tech but, for me, I think V1 will probably meet my needs and will be much easier to recoup original spend if it turns out it isn't my cup of tea.

In terms of games, I'm also not that interested in VR Worlds - more likely to look at some of the other titles. There's an FPS that sounds pretty cool (Farpoint), and super hot (currently on sale in PSN). Later this month there's a boxing title coming (Creed), and in October another FPS.

        • @fookos:

Please reply when you get your psvr
and tell me how it goes with regards to

          -VR experience
          -motion sickness
          -3D and normal movies

I am also interested it trying out VR.
The experience google glass was interesting
but this PSVR would be much better due to the higher quality..
It won't be as good quality as a HTC vive or occulus..but it is cheap enough to test out VR.

I still think the V2 of the gamesmen deal was better since it was only $80 more
          and had those two games.
Those games may not be the best but since it included is still a good deal.
The V2 has a few some improvements that may make the extra $80 worth it since it is not that much more expensive
and you get those two games.

I can wait for another ebay sale to get it, so no rush.
Also what are the chances there is a V3 coming out soon?

Yeah I heard of farpoint..seems to be the best FPS out now..
Wish they had other more known games though like DOOM, Half life etc..

          If you are interested
Get Resident Evil VR and Skyrim VR
          I heard they are good..
and resident evil in VR will be quite a scary experience…

        • +1

          @pinkybrain: Thanks for that.

The differential between the two deals is more like $90 when you factor in the cashback that Amazon attracts v eBay.

If they were the same price, I'd naturally get a V2, but I'm treating this purchase as an experiment at the cheapest price point. If I love it, I can upgrade and still likely get most of my money back on resale of the V1.

The other deal is/was nice if you have neither game already. But, TBH, with the current crop of games I never really considered needing VR at that higher price. For me, sub-$200 is a trigger buy-in price.

In terms of V3, no-one can answer that yet. The only references to it that I've seen suggest it will release alongside (or after) the PS5 and likely cost more than the current VR offering. Who knows!?

Either way, it's good to see VR being embraced by consumers as that means devs will continue to push the technology :)

        • @fookos:

          There's also another option…
Wait for amazon to put the V2 on special..on those black friday or prime specials..
They have done some insane prices so far with the xbox, ps4 and wii deals.

From what I read, seems like most of the other retailers no longer stocking V1..
So these may be the last stock of V1.

Personally I don't think this V1 is that good of a deal, once I saw the gamesmen deal for $80 more
It isn't really that cheap when you factor in that this is an older model and no included games..
The biggest factor is older model, since the newer does make some good improvements.

With the cashback it does make it a bit better, if you want VR and below $200 price point.

        • +1

@pinkybrain: Mate, let's leave it here. The Gamesmen deal, which you didn't purchase either, is over. If you don't want this Amazon one I think you've hit the nail on the head - wait for Black Friday or the next blue moon.

        • +1

@fookos: the two VR games offered in the other deal are not great. GTS VR is a tacked on gimmick on a mediocre simcade and World's had little to no replay value. It's worth a play (at least the heist and the shark thing are) but best to borrow it from someone as they won't be playing it and neither will you after a couple of days.

  • To watch 3D blurays on the PSVR do you need a 3D telly any one know?

    • +1

      No you dont

      • Awesome cheers bud.

  • +1

In case anyone is after some Moves - big w is $99 for a pair, and they’re the version 2 models

      • Yeah sorry I should have linked it, but I just went to the local big w instead of ordering online.

    • what is different about version 2?

      • Micro USB (same as PS4 controller) vs mini usb, and a slightly larger battery

  • Also, for those interested in getting the AIM controller: $89.95 for Farpoint bundle from EB games on eBay using "PAYGRADE" with free click and collect

    • Thanks mate… although I'm kind of tempted to hold off and wait to see what reviews Evasion pulls off when it releases early next month in case the new kid on the block raises the bar on FPS VR.

I'd expect it to have the option of coming bundled with the AIM controller too.

  • So those who have ordered, did you get the PSVR yet? Thoughts, impressions? Happy with the purchase? Any regrets?

    • Got it last night along with the move controllers ($99 from big W). Spent some time playing Superhot VR and even the mrs was impressed. I think you need the move controllers to make the most of the VR experience.

      • -1

how about VR movies, 3D movies and normal movies

can you test and reply back here?

    • I bought the original one at launch (same as this model actually) and sold it after about 3 or 4 months just because there wasn't a huge amount of content, and I still got close to the original price for it. I felt that, while it was great amount of fun, the money was better for me back then spent on something else.

I ordered this late Sunday night and paid the extra for express post and got it yesterday. Also bought the move controllers from Big W to go with it - as Meatball said, they're not necessary but you will want them to get the most out of it. For $199 it's definitely worth it, but you're going to spend 100 more on the moves. There's a few games out there that really make it worth it - the more recent ones I haven't played, but honestly the one that made me go "WOW" was Batman. It's only about 1 hour if you power through it, but I spent a couple of hours just enjoying the experience.

Games like Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes are awesome when you have a group of people - my wife, her sister and a mate of mine played for hours once and they aren't into gaming. There's plenty of others out there that justify the up front cost of this IMO, especially games below the $30 price point

      • Batman was only twenty minutes iirc if you powered through. If you looked in every nook and cranny you'd get an hour. I'd suggest people should borrow it from friends as it's not something you'll come back to like several other 'VR experiences'.

  • Anyone's order being delivered by Fastway in Sydney and it's tracking days it's with Fastway franchise support office?

  • +1

Just posting to say this was the bargain of bargains – VR has surpassed my expectations. I’m still in the honeymoon phase with it but, even if it’s only a ‘sometimes tech’, at $189 (after Cashrewards cashback also factored in) it’s amazing to have this experience at home.

Some of the moments in Batman VR are jaw dropping wow!

Going to give Superhot a run next, and then hoping to try the new platformer, Astrobot (will probably wait for a price drop) or a FPS.

Very immersive and impressive tech. Hope others new to VR through this deal are also happy.

    • +1

Couldn't agree more. Have finished Super Hot, incredibly fun game. Now halfway into the beautifully designed Astrobot.

      • Finished Batman VR last night - would have like it to run a little longer but what an experience?! Very happy with what was there. Cool ending sequence too :))

What I would have liked was to be able to see my 'batman boots' when I look down. You can see your hands in the game, but it would also be good to see where you are grounded - I hope Sony bring out 'foot sensors' sometime down the track.

It would be a nice addition for the immersion of your place in the 'space' of whatever game you're in (where fitting).

        Next stop, Superhot :)

        • Would you rate Batman on par with Super Hot?
I enjoyed Super Hot, heard good things about Batman but not sure if it aged well compared to current offerings. Cheers

Edit: oh oops, reread and realised you haven't played Super Hot, my question still stand, please let me know after you finish ;)

          • @zonra: Superhot is better than Batman, if it weren't for the license Batman wouldn't get a mention.

            • @[Deactivated]: Umm… yeah… the license is the whole point of the Batman VR experience. And it's done really well.

I picked up batman on a PSN sale earlier this month for $14.95 - at that price I still think it's a must buy.

Also picked up Superhot VR (and non-VR bundle) for ~$24.

              Get both if you can.

              Anyone tried Farpoint VR?

              • @fookos: I thought Batman was kinda crap tbh, I'm a Batman and VR fan so I didn't go looking for faults. Superhot is great, Farpoint is probably the #1 reason to buy VR.

                • @[Deactivated]: Did you pick up the Aim Controller with Farpoint?

                  • @fookos: Yes, I think I paid $88 iirc. Aim is a great controller, well worth it.
