With more bonus data.
Was in store today and they advised just updated last night, and to go into store for offer!

For new or port only, not for existing Telstra customers.

Note: The $200 & $300/$500 gift card deal is for new or port in customers (as already stated). However existing customers are still eligible for the extra double data on both plans and are also eligible for $300 credit for a phone purchase on the $65 BYO. Thanks BenTennyson.

Just successfully switched across to this from the $39/m for 20GB deal from a month ago. I originally signed up about 6 weeks ago, but went into JB today and upgraded to this $45/m for 50GB. Contract got updated to today’s date (not that it bothers me; 6 weeks isn’t a big deal) and obviously didn’t get the gift card as I didn’t port in.

  • Is porting to Aldi Mobile considered outside telstra seeming they use that network? I cant run on anything but telstra - this time last year I did the 2hr vodaphone port out then back into telstra.

    • My understanding is that Aldi use Optus but you should confirm that with Aldi mobile before you decide to switch providers. As long as you are not using the Telstra network (through a reseller like Aldi) you would be eligible for the Gift card.

If your reseller uses the Telstra network you would NOT be eligible (Eg. Boost Mobile) as your details are already found in Telstra database.

It should also be noted that various Ozbargainers have said that some JBHIFI stores are enforcing a minimum 30 days / 1 bill cycle to be eligible for the gift card. Should you already be a Telstra customer so even if you were to port out and port back in (under 30 days) you may not get the gift card.

      • Fairly certain Aldi Mobile uses the Telstra network.

  • How long does it take for the plan to kick in? I signed up yesterday (changing from Telstra BYO $39/15Gb to $45/50Gb) but my Telsta 24/7 app still shows my old plan. JB staff said it was only take 10 mins to activate.

    • After you get the SMS to confirm your new plan changes.
Make sure you log out of the Telstra app and log back in.

You can then see the changes and the app should show the new plan.
That is what I did when I changed to one of their new plans.

  • I am deciding whether to keep my $39 30gb or go with jb $45 for 50gb. $6 extra for 20gb is just great value. However i dont usually go past 25gb but i could be a bit more relaxed with my usage than being consevative. Long term the $45 could be value as if i upgrade through telstras byo i will lose my $10 credit. Their lowest is $49 so i will end up paying $4 more.

    • +1

The question is, you’re paying $39 a month now for 30GB. Would you like to pay an additional $6 to go to (the same) 30GB? Because if you rarely exceed 25GB, that’s exactly what you’re doing!

As for moving to a different plan in the same family, my understanding is you can only move to a (same? or) higher plan. In this case, the $39 (really $49) and $45 Plans are probably on the same level.

      • I dont usually go past 25gb but sometimes it gets close to 30gb. Now i could relax a bit if i am on the 50gb. But then again i could keep my usage the same (not to be tempted to watch an extra few youtube vid each day to keep it under 30gb and save $6.

        • +1

You do get warnings as you approach your data limit, right? Your call.

If you get closer to 30GB than 25GB each month, then you should do it. $10 per extra 1GB adds up pretty quickly otherwise. Extra $6 a month is $72 a year, so going over 7 times a year by up to 1GB you're no worse. That's 7 times, not 7 months, as you may have hit 31.5GB one time, that's $20 thank you very much!

          • @quarrymaster: Yep. Thinking more about it more, its quite a deal for an extra $6. Wont have to stress if i went over my daily avg after a few extra vids.

Also, if i need more data and tesltra has upgraded their $49 byo to more GB, i will lose my $10 credit so i wil be paying $49. Whereas jb deal now for 50gb seems to be bullet proof for my usage and pay $4 less to telstras. Thats my analysis.

Will look to upgrade for long term purposes.
            Cheers

  • Quite a few comments from both Telstra deals have commented on speed decreases with Telstra, which is a huge shame if true…

  • Can someone confirm if I can hotspot my iPad from my iPhone using this phone plan when away from my home?
Also when does this deal expire, as I’m away and can’t get to a jb until the weekend of the 20th.

    • You can always use your iphone as a Hotspot and have your ipad connnected to it as this has always been allowed.
Although the current new Telstra plans (including this one) do not offer Data Sharing so you cannot have (the iPad sim card tied to your main phone sim data pool) as it is no longer available.

The only way to get Data Sharing is to sign to a Business Plan to which you will need an ABN and does not include this deal or other BYO Sim only deals which are for personal use.

  • Can the $200 gift card - and/or the $300/$500 towards a phone - be used towards a pre-order? Would make getting a Pixel 3 sting a little less heh

    • +1

$200 Gift Card you could use any time. $300/$500 credit must go towards a phone as part of the contract — if you terminated your contract before the 24-months, you need to give some of that back. When's the Pixel launched here? If it's launched but on backorder, I think you're ok.

      • Thanks.

Yeah JB has them, though it says "Pre-Order Delivery". I'll pop into a store tomorrow and ask I suppose

        • Did you get an answer whether you could use it for the pixel 3?

  • Hopefully they will have a good Pixel 3 phone plan like last time for Pixel 2.

  • When will this deal end?

    • +1

Jb hi fi person told me it ends tomorrow

      • So we can still get it (Fri Oct 12)?

Is there an official jb page or something I can show them concerning this deal? (Already with Telstra so going with the deal w/out gift card)

        • +1

I just got mine today. Other people say deal is ongoing? shrugs

  • I ported out to optus prepaid for 5 days, went back to JBHiFi and got ported back in.
Bought 65 plan and bought iphone xs max. was bit of a ride, but settled.

    • How much credit did you get was it $300 or $500 off gift card from iphone max? Also does the receipt comes in full invoice of the iphone price so I can do tax return?

    • Did you get charged fees to port?

      • +1

Not yet, my first bill just said $65.

    • can i ask how much you got the phone for?

  • Signed up to the $45/m plan yesterday arvo, though still waiting for my number to port from catch mobile. Hopefully it goes through today, cause you don't get the gift card until it's finalized.

Probably going to use it towards the already discounted S9 - and the headphones via redemption make it too good to pass up

  • I've been on the $49/20gb plan from JB hifi since Sep 2017, does anyone know if I'll be able to get the extra data without having to sign a new contract?

  • -1

Been talking to Telstra chat to get more data for my BYO plan and trying to match JB plan.
He says the JB offer is at a slower speed… has anyone else been told of this?

    • ..

  • I've had a quick read through the comments but maybe I missed it. I take it this no longer comes with the extra $10 off as a port-in credit?

    cheers

    • +2

I spoke to telstra live chat and brought it up. She gave me a $10 discount on the $65 for being a loyal customer. $55 for 80gb, plus phone credit, seems like an amazing deal to me!

I don't even need that much data but I can't help myself. She said that the sales reps at JB Hi-Fi can bring up the reference number so will go in and see how that goes (If I can find a store with the XS in stock)

      • What was deemed "loyal" in your case? Plenty of sob stories on Whirlpool, and rightly so!

        • Didn't give her a sob story. Don't think they care. I told her that I don't want to port out and port back in. I asked her what the best deal was and that was it. They know waving $10 in our face will make us jump for joy.

          • +1

@Shmuel: So more importantly, you are eligible for the phone credit without needing to port out and back in? That’s cool.

            • +1

@quarrymaster: I believe so, but will have to see when I go into JB. They might say no but I doubt it. Will update later on.

              • @Shmuel: Telstra live chat is so hit and miss. I’ve read many comments of people getting better deals, bonus data or credits from live chat for being loyal customers, however any time I’ve tried I get told no. So last week I moved to Kogan. I might come back when the next good new customer deal comes along.

Well I took the punt and ported out on Tuesday, just signed up in store today and got my $200 voucher. No mention of the fact I ported out 4 days ago. Was done all via phone, even when the credit check was going through the lady mentioned “it’s all still here from last time”

    Your mileage may vary.

Edit: I can confirm it’s full speed. 160 down and 50 up

    • +1

Good work mate. I visited 2 stores yesterday in Adelaide and they both told me it couldn't be done - we even discussed me doing it last year.
      I might try another shop.

He also said the $45 50GB $200 GC deal was on-going and he didn't know an end date.

      • +1

I was told that the value of the voucher may go down in future, but they can’t see the plan disappearing. I ended up visiting 5 stores in total. After the 4th I just ported out. Walked into the 5th and just asked a few questions, let him sell it to me.

        • I’m assuming you didn’t mention that you ported out a few days ago? I think that’s the key. If you tell them it’s less than 30 days they will say no but if you don’t mention it you have a high chance of it going through.

      • Hey I'm planning to do this tomorrow, which ones wouldn't do it for you? And was it because of a recent porting away?

  • anyone able to get pixel 3 $500 off?

  • Is this deal still going? Can't seem to find it on their website

    • +2

In-store only. I’ve never seen it on their website.

      • Cheers mate!

  • I've got this deal. But where in writing does it say you get 50gb??

The telstra summary emailed to me says 15gb

    • +1

      Your plan inclusions

      • 15GB Monthly Data Allowance.
      • Unlimited monthly calls, SMS and MMS to Standard Australian Numbers.
      • MessageBank®.

For more important information about your plan, download the Critical Information Summary: JB Hi-Fi Mobile BYO Plan 12 Month

      Add-ons & Bonuses

      • Telstra Live Pass

      • 5GB bonus data per month.

      • 30GB bonus data per month.
      • where do you see this?

    • Go to the Telstra app and it will show 50 GB.
Mine also shows 15 GB in the summary unfortunately.

      • +1

yeah i can see that. I just wonder what would happen if one month down the track it changes back to 15gb. Then we have nothing to refer to.. i didnt get any receipt from JB either.

        • Ok if you check your bill it should say what extras you have.

  • +1

I need a new BYO plan, so bought a sim from amaysim today morning and ported to Telstra in the evening for the $45 per month plan and got the $200 gift card from JB Hi-Fi. I also have another mobile also with Telstra on 2 year contract. After reading all the comments, it seems I might ask them to add unlimited international calls and move $49 ($69-10-10) plan if they allow me :)
Thanks OP for the post by the way.

Looks like Telstra is now trying to beat Vodafone with their amazing offers. Previously Telstra was too expensive.

    • To be clear, you only needed to port out of Telstra for a day, not a month, to be eligible for the bonus gift card?

      • First part with Amaysim is a little unclear. Not sure if the Amaysim SIM was a completely new number, or ported from Telstra then back again same day.

        • Completely new.
Actually I needed a new number so that's why.
My other number with Telstra is on a 2 year contract, so can't get out unless I pay the phone amount, which I didn't wanted to.

          • @crazyboy: In that case, I think the Amaysim part was unnecessary. The JB deal should apply to port-ins and new services.

  • Anyone know what the cheapest option might be to port out of telstra for a day or so? I don't want to waste too much money trying to get this giftcard…

    • +2

Update: spent $12 porting to amaysim this morning. Went into JB this arvo and got the gift card no worries. Going back on Friday to pick up Red Dead Redemption

      • Which JB? The two I go to in Sydney seem to know what can’t be done! LOL

        • +1

Barkly Square in Melbourne. All I can advise is just keep trying different stores, and don't say a word about how long you've been with your current provider XD

  • +2

Just signed up a new plan today at JB for $45. can confirm got the gift card okay. 35gig is bonus data to make 50 gig total.

Also asked about existing numbers. he said you can change to this plan, you just dont get the $200. and showed me the option on his computer to confirm this was the case.

So if your wanting the extra data for the price, you still can and dont need to port in to get it.

Also the $65 plan, the $500 is off any phone they had in store in case anyone wanted to know about that and hasnt read previous comments.

    • Thanks for the info regarding existing numbers, though probably is worth the hassle for multiple numbers with $200 gift cards each …

  • Just a note for the OP. Apparently all new Telsta plans from 24/07/2018 will no longer support data sharing.

"All data expires at the end of the month and is not shareable. Data is for personal use in a smartphone only" - Alito Telstra rep 18/10/2018 11:30am - Noon.

    • Does this mean I cannot create hotspot or connect phone to my Mac to use internet anymore?

  • I 'ported' 2 days ago and still stck on Optus. Multiple calls to the Telstra line have proved fruitless with the latest telling me it was 'stuck' in the system and they may have to cancel the order and get me to reapply. Over it already. If I cancelled altogether then whats the go with the voucher that I already have right here?

    • +1

Keep it as compensation for the trouble you went through and try to reapply again.

  • +1

FWIW, I'm an existing customer and been able to obtain $39pm for 35GB ($49pm plan with $10pm credit and 5GB extra). I don't want to go through the hassle of porting so quite happy with this.

    • Did you go through live chat? What did you say to them to give you that deal ?

      • If the experience on Whirlpool is anything to go by, it has more to do with who you get than what you say.

      • Yes I went through live chat. I pointed out I want the small plan and $10 loyalty credit.

I was told then only the medium plan can have the loyalty credit - which is the existing advertised promotion on BYO page at the moment.

I said thanks but no thanks as I don’t use that much data. The rep said wait then said ok can do $10 credit for small plan.

The 5GB was negotiated separatedly with another rep the day after I re-contracted.

I might have been lucky as both time I got what I asked for withoht having to do the rep lucky draw again and again.

  • Guy at JB said the cooldown from porting out from Telstra has to be at least 30 days.
Promotion ends at the end of the month but he wouldn't be surprised if it was extended.

  • Guy at jb said he thought it was 30 days, couldn't get a definitive answer so gave it a crack anyway, and it all went through easily. Only ported out 5 days so to optus.

So, I think there is some policy/advice regarding telstra being unhappy with the 30 days but if you can find someone willing to give it a go, it will work on the telstra end and jb will be happy with that.

  • Hi,

I have finished my current optus contract and am looking at getting this deal. How can I go instore to JB and keep my number? Who would I have to contact? Thanks!

    • Just go to JB and they’ll do the rest. You’d need some ID, look up your Optus account number and that’s pretty much it. Anything else they’ll ask. The $45 Planis for 12 months, the $65 over 24.

  • Just ported missus on $45 and got $200 gift card and then ported mine on $65 and got the $500 of a phone outright. Stacked together and got the iPhone XS 256GB for $1179. I confirm that the deal is still on only on jbhifi stores and go up to 31st of October.

    • Did you port out and then port in? Or were you a non Telstra customer before?

  • Apparently this ends after the 29th, so I'd get in soon if you want it!

  • +1

Got this deal today at JB Hifi. Only ported out of hellstra 2 days ago over to Kogan prepaid, kept silent on that. No problem. Took 10 minutes tops.

    • Did you get $200 JB Gift Card

  • I am currently at the 12 month mark of a lease plan with the iphone X with Telstra. I know it says for port in customers but has anyone in a similar boat had any luck upgrading to the new 24m plan to a new handset with JB even thought you're an existing cust?

    • Buy a $2 sim, port out. Then walk into JB no problems. I did it in the same shopping trip. Took about 15mins.

  • any month to month deals?

  • I just signed up to this, they ported my Amaysim within 5 minutes, was super easy. Bought the $45 plan, when you do the maths including the $200 giftcard ends up being like ~$28 a month for the plan, so good

    • Yep, just make sure you leave or change by the 13th month.

  • Just got the $45 plan with the $200 gift card. Showing the full 50GB of data :) Had only been on an optus prepaid a couple of weeks previously on Telstra.

  • +1

    When does the promo/deal end?

    • Most comments previously state 31st October.

  • +3

Went to JB today and they said this promo has been extended to November 24th.

  • woohoo! $200 gift card is now within reach!

  • Local JB insisting I need to have been off Telstra for 3 months to be eligible for this deal. Bit hard to argue the point without any terms and conditions available anywhere. Might just have to try with a different staff member

    • +1

Which JB? At least in which state?
