Split System Air Conditioner for Bedroom

Hi, I'm in the market for a split system for my bedroom. It's 20m² and has a north facing window.

What system do you recommended? Are there any good deals at the moment?

The system will be installed on an external wall, so hopefully that will reduce the cost of installation.

Thanks for you suggestions!

  • Pretty sure next week 24/10 Aldi are going to do a split system and portable air cons as well as fans.

  • aldi split air conditioner is crap.

    • I have an Stirling split system aircon. No complaints. Better than my Fujitsu one, imho.

      • really..? I had 2 and thought they were quite noisy and the start up weird…it'll do a sudden blast of air move the louvres and then it'll settle in… it didn't remember the last louvre position and the beeping from the remote buttons loud.

may be I just got duds.. I bought 2 of them 2 years ago. lucky for me I sold the house they were in.

        • Did you try to call them up to fix it under warranty?

          • @geek001: I bought 2 at the same time… they both did exactly the same thing…

to me that would be what the machines would be like… nothing compared to the Mitsubishi ones and fujitsu ones I have had in the past

      • Stirling is better than Fujitsu ? hmmmm how so?
Ok, within the warranty period, what if a Fujitsu aircon having issues, you call a service center and they will do a service call.
What going to happen with Aldi system? you need to remove it and take to the shop? :)
I would stick to known brand with service.

        • The Fujitsu I had was the weaker performer between the two. Both aircons had the similar power rating(Stirling 3.3kw vs Fujitsu 3.5kw). In fact, the Aldi one also had 1/2 extra energy star for cooling. Not sure about longevity though as both are still quite new.

I think for Aldi aircons if you had an issue, they call out a technician,(in home service they call it I think) like any other aircon manufacturer? Same with their dishwashers, etc.

I normally stick with known brands too. I was pleasantly surprised when I installed what I thought was inferior in my garage and it worked better than the Fujitsu in my living room. Just saying..

  • Daikin.

  • I have a Fujitsu 3.5kw/3.7kw model which is ample for my room. I figured saving maybe $100 on the unit by going with a smaller one wasn't worth it when the install costs almost as much as the unit. My only complaint is the Fujitsu remote control is just as crappy as the 15 year old aircon I have in my lounge. It would have been nice to see a RF/Bluetooth/App control functionality but I'm not sure of any other brands having better controls either.

  • Fujitsu 3.5kw.

Approx $600 - $650 to be installed if in Syd

  • Seek an electrical certificate and a plumbing certificate.
Gumtree may find an all in one person for a back to back install.

    How far is the breaker?

    • Air conditioner would be ~10 metres from the breaker.

      • Power run would most likely be from breaker to ac units.
Surface mount conduit vs conceal cable run.

Surface mount exposed in conduit cheaper.
