Pet Insurance Company

Hi,

I am reviewing my pet insurance company again with 'Pet Insurance Australia' because I am paying more than what I am paying for my car insurance and I'm not sure if it even covers for some conditions as they might be 'pre-existing'.

What would classify as a 'pre-existing condition' if I have not taken him to the vet for any issues apart from a paralysis tick?

He's a pure bred golden retriever, so I am guessing hip problems and ear infections won't be covered as they are common issues?

Is there any pet insurers do you recommend? I am paying $921 annual for my pure breed dog (8 years old) and I heard after 9 years old they don't insure, or some companies don't accept.

  • Have you tried a couple of comparison sites? That should give you a starting point, and you should be able to determine what is constituted as 'pre-existing' with your short list of providers.

After that, the value in the insurance versus the cost is up to you to decide.

  • Bowwowmeow have been good to me. I've made near on $25000 in claims and they've lived up to what they were meant to cover.

I have PIA, my dog was sick once which had many symptoms including cough before policy started. almost a year no symptoms have a chronic cough now won't cover it because she was "Sick in the past". My vet wrote both incidents were not related, they won't budge on. complained internally they confirmed no cover. Will be taking them to the ombudsman. Paying like $70 / month for years for nothing cant even make $300 claim, pathetic. I would avoid them once I settle with the ombudsman

    • I have PIA too.

They are so bad! I'm looking to change now …

  • Have a golden retriever as well.

Since he’s 8, you need to verify changing insurers won’t be the same price. I think you’ll find they will keep insuring your pet when they turn 9 but you can’t insure them for the first time at 9 because unfortunately with goldens some problems do start then.

I’m with Medibank because I have them for health insurance. It was $500 for my 4 year old. It’ll be more for your boy.

  • pre-existing conditions usually refers to conditions that were present prior to the start of an insurance policy being taken out. The hip issues and ear issues are not pre-existing if your dog didn't have these issues as a young puppy prior to you starting your insurance policy. breed-related conditions may be something for you to check on your insurance policy

I would not pay any money to pet insurance companies, they are all a rip-off

I instead I would set up a separate bank account & put money in there instead

When/if required, you have money for your special mate
