Cheaper Netflix Via VPN for Existing / New Subscribers (E.G Basic $4.07, Standard $7.11, Ultra $10.16 Per Month W/ No Fee Card)

9530

Greetings everyone, I was trying to figure out a cheaper way to get Netflix easily (rather than use iTunes billing and other avenues) and I found this thread over at MyDealz, I thought it was worthwhile to share it.

You can get Netflix for significantly cheaper by signing up / renewing via a quick VPN trick. I only just updated my plan 30 minutes ago, and signed up for the Ultra plan (UHD, 4 Devices) via Argentina and got charged 229 Argentinian Pesos which equated to be $8.99 for the month via my no fee card.

This works out to be approximately 50% of the pricing of Australian Netflix (Basic $9.99, Standard $13.99, Ultra $17.99).

Neil also completed a great write up a few years ago about this, check that out for further reference to assist with getting the deal.

Some examples of the pricing can be found here (I have highlighted the cheapest for each package in bold:)

Turkey:

  • Basic: 15.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$4.06 AUD Per Month)
  • Standard: 27.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$7.11 AUD Per Month)
  • Ultra: 39.99 TRY (Equates currently to ~$10.16 AUD Per Month)

Argentina:

  • Basic: 129 ARS (Equates currently to ~$4.97 AUD Per Month) Now 149 ARS
  • Standard: 169 ARS (Equates currently to ~$6.51 AUD Per Month) Now 219 ARS
  • Ultra: 229 ARS (Equates currently to ~$8.82 AUD Per Month) Now 299 ARS

Argentina has now been updated to a new pricing structure. Turkey is now the cheapest.

Hits has kindly made a spreadsheet with the current pricing in AUD from the cheapest countries.

If you have access to a VPN, it is an extremely easy process:

For New Subscribers:

  1. Connect to a VPN that has the cheapest pricing for the package you require per the spreadsheet above.
  2. Go to Netflix and enter your details to sign up to a new account.
  3. Go through and select the package that you would like, make sure the prices are in the desired currency per the VPN.
  4. Continue through and sign-up, your billing will now be in the currency per the VPN.
  5. Turn off the VPN and your account will be Australian, but will bill in the cheaper currency.

For Existing Subscribers:

  1. Go to Your Account and Cancel your subscription. It will expire at the end of the billing period.
  2. When the billing expires, Connect to a VPN of your choice, login and click reactivate your subscription.
  3. Go through and select the package that you would like, make sure the prices are in the desired currency per the VPN.
  4. Continue through and complete the reactivation, your billing will now be in the currency per the VPN.
  5. Turn off the VPN and your account will be Australian, but will bill in the cheaper currency.

Your account will only have titles from a different country if you are connected via VPN. With this method, It will charge in the foreign currency, but your account will have Australia titles :)

It is worthwhile to continue to check which country is the cheapest each month to get the best price :)

There's heaps of VPN deals around if you don't have access to a VPN yet, I used Windscribe for reference and connected to Argentina with ease.

I really hope this helps people out, it's definitely helped me out :)

All credit must go to Luca Lutz @ MyDealz for the help.

As always, enjoy!

    • Yes, same error with my ING, however Macquarie card worked though

      • And Citibank Debit.
I was sent a citibank txt though, asking me to confirm the shady-looking activity (same as 28 degrees). Australian card paying Netflix Netherlands for Turkish services.

Maybe other banks are just bouncing it. OR citibank is more world-based, in Netflix's eyes. Hard to say who's stopping it.

        Browser won't matter.

  • I use nordvpn to vpn to turkey, but when i go to netflix website, it gives me the plan in US$ 15.99. can anyone help me?

    • nordvpv doesn't work, try other vpn provider

Account expired today so thought i'd give it a shot. SaferVPN didn't have Turkey so I just went with Argentina.

Opened SaferVPN and connected to Argentina
    Open up Firefox on IOS
    Accesed https://www.netflix.com/ar-en/login
Went to payment screen and used my 28 Degree Mastercard
Select Subscription Type and Boom it worked :)

28 Degree will send a text to confirm it isn't fraudulent activity.

  • Finally got it to work with Chrome (not Samsung browser or Firefox). I used Cyberghost and got new email address, which might be key. NAB Debit didn't work, called them and they said international transactions were blocked but couldn't turn on due to unknown reason. No matter, Qantas Travel card worked perfectly and at better rate.

Just signed up using SaferVPN. Too easy. Picked Argentina as location and signed up for 299ARS, not swearing, that's their currency code 😀. Charged $9.47 AUD in 28DegreeMC. I couldn't be more happier. Thanks OP.

  • I have used world VPN and followed all the instructions while setting up as mentioned on their website but it is taking me to Netflix US. Trying to do it on my iphone and tried both private versions of chrome and safari. Any help will be great

    • saferVPN (24h free trial) still works for joining Netflix through Argentina pricing

  • +4

So I tried SafeVPN on iPhone and Safari private mode and connected to Argentina, created new account and tried paying with ING and it was not successful. I had an active account which I cancelled last month and it got lapsed today. The trick that worked for me was I updated default payment method in my existing account to ING and instead of creating new account, I re-joined my existing with ING already setup as method of payment and it worked perfectly. Suggestion for someone with existing account. Hope this helps. Thanks OP.

  • Nord VPN using not getting above mention prices.

    • try saferVPN from memory I didn't have luck with Nord

  • Thanks OP used getflix VPN and changed my account to Turkey almost half price

  • WorldVPN trial + Chrome incognito + CBA Mastercard just worked for me for Turkey.

It did ask to verify my phone number, and I just entered +614xxxxxxxx and was sent a verification code.

  • Looks like Netflix have cracked down on this.
Using Getflix VPN and Chrome incognito I get presented with the following pricing
    Basic Standard Premium
    15.99 TL 27.99TL 39.99 TL

I am definitely connected to a Turkey VPN as my IP address is showing Istanbul.
    Any ideas?

    • Basic Standard Premium
      15.99 TL 27.99TL 39.99 TL

What do you mean? Thats the correct and current price in Turkey. 15.99 TL is about AUD3.80

      • +1

Thanks for alerting me to this I didn't check the spreadsheet I was originally presented with ones about a 3rd of the pricing which I couldn't select only the pricing above but when I checked the spreadsheet again you were totally correct.
All sorted now account restarted using a Suncorp credit card, Getflix VPN and Chrome browser.

  • Doesn't seem to be working for me.

Using Android phone, world VPN trial, incognito tab. Comes up with the 39.99 TL currency.

Tried 4 different credit cards, each time get the error saying "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use".

Can they detect if it's an Australian credit card?

    • Worked using safervpn and Argentina.

    • That was the standard Turkish rice for Ultra. Now 2 TRY more.

  • Turkey just worked for me using SmartVPN + renew lapsed account using Westpac MasterCard. But they're charging me 7.99TL PER WEEK for standard plan, which is more like 34.62TL/month. Don't remember seeing a monthly option at all.

    • +1

This happened to me and I can't remember what I did to get around it. Not sure if I used a different browser or zoomed the screen out or something else. Hopefully someone can help.

      • +1

Their is a radio button on the plan selection page

  • Finally worked with winscribe and Topcashback visa.. Chose the cheapest option for mobile only. $2 a month is good value. Thanks OP.

  • Just worked for me:

    • Existing membership with lapsed plan
    • WorldVPN trial — Turkey server
    • ANZ Rewards VISA (billed as A$6.98 on my statement)
    • 27.99 TRY/month

Something to note: WorldVPN has an admittedly user-unfriendly UI, so it's not very clear if the VPN has connected yet. It takes about a minute for the VPN to actually connect, so make sure you double-check the connection time has started counting before navigating to Netflix.

  • Success renewing using windscribe Argentina + ING orange everyday. Using LastPass browser on mobile. I'll try turkey next month

    • How did you get around the phone number verification? Was it because you used that funky browser? Been trying to no avail

      • Think i see your supposed to use +61 minus the 0 and your number

        • Can't change the flag / put a plus down on the mobile browser :(

      • I didn't have to, it must have carried over from my previous subscription details.

  • Tried ibvpn which has argentina and turkey servers 24hr trial
No issues connecting and getting correct prices but 2 ING cards and 2 CBA cards both gave the "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use" error.
Called ING and they said that the cards are fine and that there wasnt any declined transactions on the cards - so seems to be something netflix side?

    • as an update, i managed to get through on the argentina server using a windscribe free 24hr pro trial for the VPN, and got to the ph number bit on a CBA card - i put in the +61 replacing 0 but unfortunately didnt get any texts
Every time i tried again it reverted back to the card issues problem.

Anyone have any insight on how to get it working?

Just got an email from Netflix saying my Ultra ARS299 will go to 369 from July. Anyone else get the same email?

    • I got the email on Sunday about the HD plan going from ARS219 to 269, so I’d assume it’s applying to all plans they offer.

    • I just got the email today. Not sure if I want to risk trying to changing it to Turkey's pricing.

      • +1

I'm thinking of using another email and same credit card to subscribe to Turkey and then cancel Argentina.

        • Ooooo good idea! Thanks for this - I might give that a go too.

  • Signed up successfully using Windscribe Turkey server, had to use ANZ Visa as wouldn't accept my CBA Mastercard. Still same price 39.99TRY for Ultra.

    • simply doesnt work my my cba issued master card nor amex nor ing visa nor 28degree….
got freshly created account yet neither of them worked out for me ….grrrrr…

  • +1

Just successfully signed up existing canceled account using Windscribe and Citibank Debit MC.

Prices however are 2 TRY more on each plan, 17,99 for basic.

  • I tried NordVPN with Turkish and Argentinian Servers, but all prices show as USD, when attempting to create new account, or using my existing AU account. I'm using Firefox and deleting all my browser history each attempt.

    • try incognito mode.

I tried Firefox Focus mobile and Firefox standard on mobile and still getting USD (Argentina).

Turkey was just too slow to even get to the Netflix home page.

        Update: Turkey https://photos.app.goo.gl/Rprpof1A5dmNQbUE6

        • try another browser. There is clearly something left behind in your browser that they can see

          • @Pyrock: By design Firefox Focus stores no history whatsoever. But I'll try another browser just for fun.

          • @Pyrock: Fresh installation of Opera gave the same results. All prices in USD.

        • I can confirm success (Argentina) with Windscribe VPN. I do not understand why it wouldn't work with NordVPN. Next month I will try Turkey.

          • +1

@felipe1982: they may possibly have flagged the NordVPN argentina/turkish servers?
I could use Windscribe as well as iBVPN to get through successfully

  • Just done it.
Previous subscriber, I have used worldvpn, turkey server, Microsoft edge incognito mode. I got asked for a phone number but I skipped it. Automatically it charged my ING.
I have tried previously with chrome even in incognito mode but I had no luck

  • Netflix increasing Argentina price to ARS369 which is about $12.46 AUD.

    • +1

Cancelled mine. Going to buy discount gift cards from Woolworths instead

  • This is the easiest and most likely way to successfully sign up using Argentina/Turkey

Cancel your current subscription or trial before it bills
Once the subscription lapses download chrome extension Hide My IP
Register trial but use 10 Minute Mail to save using your personal email.
    Connect to Argentina/Turkey
    Reactivate account and choose plan
    Remove Hide My IP extension

Much easier way to get half price Netflix here at the moment:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/467651

I've stocked up on gift cards for the next couple of years.

  • Turkish price-rise: 2 Turkish Lira on each plan (50cents)

So Argentina is cheaper again, by a small margin (depending on currency swings on the day)

    Argentina: AUD$10.24
    Turkey: AUD$10.68

    • Finally bit the bullet, and jumped over. Netflix Turkey.

New email address, citibank card, turkish IP with TorGuard, free month.
Citibank sent me a text, blocking the transaction until I reply with YES, due to Netflix Netherlands attempt.

And works with my dedicated USA IP from Torguard.

I never count my eggs, but for now FREAKIN SWEET. Sharing the dedicated VPN & Netflix, costing PEANUTS for PRIMO watching.

      • Can you use gift card to pay for it?

        • No way. Different currencies. And you'd be waving a flag around your intentions.

I did wonder about finding discount netflix gift cards in Turkey/Argentina. Bah, can't be bothered. Bah, (the law of) diminishing returns.

  • when I use HolaVPN it asks me to provide the telephone number. how to get around this ??

    • Ignore it.
      It's an option, for recovery.

I opened the account page in a new tab, to be sure. Worked fine.
On the original tab, where it asked for phone number, I left it empty, and clicked on the, CONTINUE below. Worked fine.

  • Got an email to say that the standard plan would be going up to 29.99 TL per month from 9 August
