  • My roof is on a slant/pitch, maybe 30 degrees. Will these do the job, or should i get downlights where the angle can be adjusted? Thanks

  • kool

  • Thanks for the vote!

Yes, you need to have a gimbal downlight to make sure the light beam shoots straight down.

This one is 30-degree gimbal, should do the job.

  • Will these be ok outside? Undercover…

    • Rated as IP44, it protects against water spray from all direction.

As long as it is undercover, they should do the job.

  • Great deal OP.

  • Currently using Philips 5w led mr16 gimbals 90mm. Looking to replace them with a recessed led down light kit that is dimmable. I'm worried about cheap led down light brands. Can you recommend any dimmable recessed kits on your site to replace these Philips mr16 down lights?

  • Hi i am thinking to replace my mr16 leds with this, will it do the job? Do i need a new converter? Thanks

    • +1

The MR16 downlight fitting comes with a driver that converts 240V alternate current into 12v direct current before it reaches the bulb.

This 12W LED downlight Kit comes with an in-built led driver, you can wire it straight up onto the roof circuit, no more converter is required for this 12W downlight to work.

        Thank you. Getting some now

  • Is it usual that halogen downlights have standard power sockets to plug into? Or is that a more recent way of wiring them?

Unfortunately, I can't get into the roof to check due to a back injury. My halogens are MR16s and in an extension built in the 90s. If I understand correctly, if I do have power points to plug these units in, it should be possible to replace the existing downlights entirely from below?

    • The most recent way of wiring downlight kit is using surface socket

Install this surface socket in the ceiling next to the downlight hole, then plug the downlight in to make it work.

I'm guessing most likely your existing halogen downlights are wired straight on to the roof circuit.

You might need to call an electrician to check the roof circuit and install these surface sockets in the ceiling, it will be also easier for you to manage the lighting later on.
