I have the card. Good card for flight alone. only issue is poor points earning after 2k. I max out 2k and then put the card away each month and churn another card.

  • I've got the QF Frequent Flyer Black card with ANZ, can I still get this and hold both at the same time?

    • +1

      Yep!

    • +1

Yes. I had the anz black when i applied for this card number of months back. Received the bonus points with no issue.

    • Yes - literally have both cards in my wallet at the moment.

  • +1

Also a super decent card for travelling with!

    • Is this card a 28degrees killer?

      • -3

28 degrees is crap and has been for many years

        • -1

What makes you say that? I get this card has rewards and the free flight which makes it better than the 28degrees but it also has a $225 annual free, but if you use 28degrees for travel, there is no annual fee and no transaction fee, so its no frills?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Most of the time flight is higher than the annual fee.

          • @[Deactivated]: ING is better for international travel; rebates for interna international ATM fees is a winner. No points, but neither does 28 degrees.

ANZ Travel Rewards is a decent card, definitely worth getting it for the sign up bonus and flight but wouldn't keep it a second year.

            • @ely: If you think you can reasonably use the flight, it's probably still worth keeping for the second year and worth getting even without a sign up bonus.

              • @illumination: I got the card for the points/flight alone, but used it on a recent 3 week trip to the USA and was a perfect CC for travel with no fees.

            • @ely: Um how is ing better for international travel? They have a 2.5% foreign currency fee.

              • +1

@watwatwat: If it's your primary bank account, it's waived. Basically, you have to fulfil a criteria in the calendar month prior. If you do, you get some pretty good perks in the month following:

                • Waiver of 2.5% foreign currency fee
                • No charge for using any ATM charged by ING (including in Australia)
                • Refund of any charge any ATM charges you themselves (whilst a bank may not charge you, the ATM itself may have its own fee) - no other bank in Australia does this, as far as I am aware
                • Higher Savings interest rate for the linked Savings Account (up to balances of $100k)

So basically, if it's either your primary bank account (in which case you're likely to fulfil the criteria without additional effort) or you're willing to qualify in the preceding month, it's probably not only the most complete bank account, but also the best card for overseas travel at the moment

                • @illumination: Thanks @illumination.

Qualifying is pretty easy; it's technically my main bank account, but as all my transactions are on credit cards one time a month I make a split payment at the supermarket and put through $0.01, $0.02, $0.03, $0.04 and $0.05 transactions. I make a redraw of my mortgage each month to pay the CC bills which meets the income requirement and then we're done.

                  • @ely: Yep that's what I used to do (except I'd just do $0.01 5 times haha)

And now you can actually just use Beem It to send money to someone because they're treated as card transactions/payments

                    • @illumination: I did the 1c thing, but missed one one month and ended up with some international fees… Only $3, but I've been careful ever since :D

I'd forgotten about Been It, should revisit that.

      • Yes.
        1) Better UI
        2) Same or better FX rates
        3) Earns points on overseas spend

28D is just used as a back up.

  • +1

So if you have had other ANZ cards but not ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card in the last 12 months, you are eligible it seems!!

  • Anyone knows if I apply and approved today, the card can reach me by 14th next week?

    • Ring them up and ask for express post. You'll have to pay for it though.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Will sign up after my 12m exclusion ends

FYI - the bonus points are Velocity, but the point earn is ANZ Rewards - these transfer 2:1 to Velocity (a little higher during bonus promos)

  • Is this card better than the Citibank card? The Citibank points seems to be transferable to Virgin and SIA and the annual fees are pretty low.

    https://www.finder.com.au/citi-rewards-platinum-credit-card-…

    • +1

If you use the free domestic flight to Perth for example, that pays for the annual fee. It just depends if you would use the free flight.

      • Remember it is a return flight, so even flying Melbourne to Sydney would pay for the annual fee.

  • +1

Applied for this card back at the previous 80k offer. The card is amazing! Yes it does have a low point earn after $2k spend but it has a pretty decent point earn rate if you save it for when they do the Velocity 15% bonus, ANZ usually matches it so you essentially get 30% bonus making it .975 points per $. Also comes with some pretty cool bag tags :P

The $225 annual fee kills this deal. The St George deal (Amplify Signature Deal with 80,000 QFF points and NO annual fee for the first year) is a much better bargain in my opinion. The St George card comes with 2 Qantas lounge passes too. However, the return flight via Virgin Australia might offset the annual fee and be attractive to some people here. Unfortunately does not include Sydney to Perth return flights so I'll pass!

Does anyone know which is better - 80,000 QFF points or 80,000 Velocity points?

    • +2

      You already pass :)

    • I'd prefer the QFF, but can't answer which is better. I do fly and collect both.

It would appear to me that QFF has more products available that allows extra points to be earned per dollar spend. For example, they are currently promoting 10 points per $1 spend when spending through DJs.

    • +1

Yes it does include Sydney to Perth return flights.
You might want to revise your entire statement as you have based it on wrong information.

      • You're correct - just checked on the ANZ website and it does include Sydney to Perth. Thanks for pointing this out!

        • Why did you think it didn't include it?

As I've said elsewhere in this thread. Even a return flight from Melbourne to Sydney would be more than $225 usually so the annual fee pays for itself.

    • but it does include SYD-PER

sorry others comments got paginated at the time :(

  • +3

I cancelled my ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Card more than 12 months ago, am I still eligible for the bonus points? Yes

    • +4

Lol I like how you answered it yourself hahaha

  • So if you transfer the points to Virgin, book the flights and then say before you travel, cancel the card within 12 months do you

    a) lose the flight booking ?
    b) still pay an annual fee ?

    • +1

      No and no.

  • Is 1.5 reward point =1.5 velocity point?
can i book return ticket for antbody else?
how is the return flight ticket availbility?

    • They convert 2 ANZ : 1 Velocity (sometimes higher if you stack them up and wait for a promo)

    • 1) 1 ANZ reward point = 0.5 Velocity points. More during the promo periods in May and June (has been anywhere from 10% to 50% bonus).
      2) No.
      3) You have to call up and check yourself. Book as early as possible, especially for peak periods. Anecdotally the availability is worse than Amex flight redemptions.

      • thanks. May i book the return ticket for additional card holder?

        • Don't think so. Needs to be for the primary card holder.

    • Works out 2:1 so it’s .75 points per $ or .975 if you wait for the 30% bonus points promotions

    • how is the return flight ticket availbility?
They are T Class fares - you can search on the Virgin website - it's a bit tedious though.

  • +1

Great card this. My black out period is up at the end of Jan so will be jumping back in.

    /sets reminder.

  • +1

What is $1500 of "net eligible purchases"? Is that including bills and all?

  • I was going to cancel this card and wait 12 months, I forgot tho! FML!

It normally pays for itself with the free flight hwever, nearly anywhere as your U can get on peak hour flights. I fly to Canberra and the flights are $400 4 months ahead, and the card costs half that.

  • Hi,

My question is, do the 80,000 points expire? Also, what if I book high season? Will the points be soo high 80,000 is not enough? I can only go during high seasons sadly.

And with the eligible purchases, is it everyday things like groceries, fast food, ebay, amazon and all that?

    • Hi MrNice

      https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/ProgramBenefit…

And yes those purchases will count.

    • Your Velocity points won't expire as long as you earn or redeem one point every 24 months.

There's no points difference in reward seats between low and high season. The only difference is reward seat availability, which will sell out quicker in peak periods. Do you'll have to book early.

  • Hey all,

Just a quick check, say I have ANZ Rewards Platinum at the moment.

Can I apply for this card and get the bonus? So a new applicant, then once the card is here I will cancel my Rewards Platinum.

    TIA!

    • +2

Many comments above addressing this… but yes you can.

  • With the flight, does the card holder need to be the person flying or can I book a flight for someone else?

    • Yourself.

There is another set of restrictions to know about too—the account holder must be the traveller on the complimentary flight when it is redeemed, and you will not earn Velocity Points or Status Credits or able to upgrade to Business Class.

      Outlines it in the link.

  • I'm on a TSS (482) visa which expires in 20 months. Am I eligible for this card?

    • No only for PR or Australian citizen

      • +2

And pretty sure kiwis with Australian income and Australian residence are fine too. Just pointing that out because Kiwis are not PRs nor Australian citizens.

        • +3

          I stand corrected.
          Valid for:
          Australian citizen/resident/valid visa
          New Zealand citizens
Working, Business, Investor or Student Visas

Someday I’ll prove you wrong illumination. Some day.

          • @nightelves: Hahaha I'm not trying to compete

Just trying to plug information gaps..!!

And in fact, you've plugged more gaps too. As of my comment, we covered Kiwis, Aussies and PRs, but not others on working visas (which don't fall under any of those categories) that also earn Australian income. They're also eligible!

  • Noob question: Can you like get this for a year and then cancel it?

    • Yes
You can cancel right after you earn the points too if you want.

      • So basically I got free points then? And they wont cancel the points or chase me or something afterwards?

        • +4

The federal police will be after you for hit and run.

  • does anyone know if i tranfer the points to Krisflyer - are they considered elite miles and ill automatically be a silver or gold member? with lounge access

    • No. You only earn elite miles by flying. These are for redemption only.

    • If it were the case no one would need to fly.

      • Yeah we'd all just hang out in the lounges for OZB meet ups!

  • I got it from this deal:https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/403728
not sure if there is any difference

  • Did anyone get asked to enter their velocity number during sign up?

    • +4

They will send you an email once application is approved and you have activated the card. Then enter code in email and your velocity details via link provided.

      • Haven't received the email at all..
How long after activating the card??

        • Mine was pretty much straight away but give it a week I would say.
Subject line: Hi [NAME], welcome on board.

Then if you look at the bottom banner of that email there should be a code and instructions on how to register your velocity number.

          • @KingJuf: I activated the card by phone, if that makes any difference?

            • @gembel: Not sure, I activated via internet banking.

  • -1

Can the flight be sold or does it need to be under the cardholders name?

    • cardholders name only

  • I already have the free for life citi rewards signature card. Should I apply for this card? Is the ongoing reward points better than citi signature?

    • Anything is better than the citi card.

  • If i've already recently done the qantas version of this, am I eligible?

    • Yes

  • Good deal but I've already hedged my bets on Qantas. I wonder if I should also consider this too.

    • +1

Was in the same boat, but I'm almost certain I will run out of good card offers that I'm eligible for (i.e. not in the waiting period) a long time before I will run out of expenses necessary to meet the min spend.

If your situation is similar then you might as well take up all the good offers whilst they're available, even if it's not your preferred FF program.

    • Hedged bets on QF but signed up for this last year.
For my flight patterns have found the award availability better (and surcharges lower) for ANZ flights on VA.

  • Could I still get the bonus point if I cancel my low rate ANZ visa card and reapply for this one?

    • first just apply to qualify for bonuses then call quote application ref no and reduce limit on current card by 6k, never cancel just do split limit and consolidate them

      • Why never cancel?

        • you loose access to that credit limit unless you reinstate it within 60 days. its harder to get approved for new limits . just do split limit and consolidate the cards to avoid fee and keep limits. besides you can call up and ask for 0% b/t offers etc

  • -2

I have applied for this card just now but they didn't ask for my Velocity membership number during the application process. Just wondering when do we supply this information to link the velocity with credit card

  • Approved. Hopefully card comes quickly - got some USD expense to put on it to save on that pesky forex % now I've cancelled BW Plat.

  • -1

i did not know that additional cards has extra fees on top. oops guess i should have read the fine print.
Has anyone managed to get the additional card holders fee to be waived before?

    • not sure why someone down voted you.
not all credit card companies charge for additional card holders (eg AMEX) and I just checked the anz application where you can add an an additional card holder, and there is no mention whatsoever of a fee for it.

I believe it should be mentioned on the application form.

I doubt they would waive the fee, but you can probably ask them to cancel the additional cardholder if you didn't wish to pay the fee.

  • Anyone know if you get the bonus points as soon as you meet the minimum spend, or always 3 months after approval?

    • never as soon as you hit. usually toward the end of the period they stated. but experience with ANZ is they dish it out relatively quickly, usually on the next statement after your spend.

      • cheers

  • Is anyone here a customer of ANZ?
Contemplating getting this card and moving all our banking to them but the online reviews are pretty horrendous.

    • No need to do that. Get the card, stash the points and bale. Then in 12-months time, repeat the cycle.
