eBay Seller's Deceptive Listing Practice with Regard to Free Shipping

Hi,

I've come across a seller who lists items with starting bids of US$0.01, with free shipping. However in the description, there is a note that reads: "low Starting price just for Promotions, please pay attention that's not the total fee, total fee is Starting price add postage."

Under "Postage and payments", it clearly states "Free postage" for "Standard Shipping from China/Hong Kong/Taiwan to worldwide". There is no also no mention of what this additional postage fee is.

This is a link to one such auction: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6mm-Blue-Sapphire-Gemstone-Round…

Has anyone else come across a similar situation?

  • Nope but that's pretty scummy.

  • Report it?

Well postage is free, so it will be whatever the auction ends up at +$0. They probably keep the same listing template for each auction.

He sounds like a nice guy, I don't think there's anything to report.

Obligatory "What did the seller say when you asked them?"

No complaints in their feedback about getting stung for extra postage.

The seller is being upfront. Buyers should ask questions before purchasing the item.
