Damnit, beat me to it by 15 seconds. Maybe I should apply some Rain-X to my face for the ensuing tears…

    • +3

Pretty sure it won't work on nerds as they're naturally repellent.

      • -1

        Maybe it's Maybelline…

  • Never bought before
do I need to clean screen first or is this an all in one Cleaner / Repeller ?

    • +4

you need to clean (and dry) screen first, then apply the solution (in circular motion) and wait for it to dry and create haze. Finally you need to clear the haze by using dry cloth or sprinkle some water and wipe it off.

In other words, Wipe On…..Wipe Off

    • +4

no, you need to prep your windscreen. I normally just clay and prepsol or whatever wax & grease remover you like to use
Edit: Prep is always the key with any coating. Do not think any wax & clean is good enough. If you are going to all that trouble applying a coating you may as well do a bit more and prep your surface

      • +1

If you apply a good quality wax (like dodo juice) you don't need any rain X.

The wax becomes the repellant and lasts longer!

        • That's what I do as well. Works much better than rainx

          • @jeffcarras: Best cheap option i've found that has long durability is aquapel.

    • You clean it well and put it on (make sure you're not cleaning it with any wash and wax product as the rainx won't bond onto the wax).
You can chemically decontaminate/clay/polish it etc for extra durability however this isn't necessary for a product like rainx where you're reapplying every 2 months anyway.
If i was putting on a ceramic coating or something with 6month+ durability i'd do it but it's simply not worth the time doing it for rain x.

  • Wow thanks for the Quick replies
    cheers bogak and kungfoopanda !

    • I've used this on my very old Nissan Sentra many years ago. At certain speed and condition of the rain, the wipers don't need to turn on. Pretty cool.

      • Absolutely, water will refuse to "sheet" on the window and stay as "droplets" and roll straight off with the wind - I do my car windows every 2 months or so - I hate driving cars in the wet without rainx. It's the best product for keeping your car windows clean.

AVOID THE WASHER FLUID ADDITIVE total garbage in comparison.

        • +1

I actually found the washer fluid to work fantastically. I find the wiper blade life span lasts longer as well. No streak marks when you wipe.

When applying the washer fluid additive spray it through your windscreen washer once a day for approx. 3 days & your windscreen will repel rain like you wouldn't believe. It can be absolutely hammering down rain & my wipers will only be turned on in intermittent mode……….& it lasts for weeks.

I've been using the washer fluid additive product for approx. 8yrs & have never experienced a moment where it did not work. I like it so much I have recommended it to many friends & relatives over the years.

          Best stuff ever!!!

          • @Drewski181: I suppose I was expecting the instant effect I get with this rub on stuff.

I personally found this stuff to be superior, albeit more difficult to apply.

  • Suitable for shower glass?

    • "It can even be used at home on the shower glass!"

    • +1

I've tried it on shower glass and tbh it didn't last more than a week. From what i can see, if you keep hitting the coated area with water, it slowly washes away the coating so to speak. This also applies on the car windscreen, i remembered applying it before leaving for a interstate drive and while i was on the road it rained very heavily throughout the day and by the time i arrived (Sydney to Brisbane) the RainX had pretty much worn off.

Applying to correct side of glass?

        • lol that would be funny

Good post OP - I missed out the last time!

How many applications does a 207mL bottle last?

    • +2

Never measured it but you only use a small amount (maybe 20-30ml?) per application. Tip: Use a paper towel + disposable gloves to apply, then a dry cloth to polish once it dries. If you don't wear gloves your hands will feel funky for a few hours afterwards. I actually prefer the spray bottle, less hassle + more economical to apply

      • Does this need to be put into a spray bottle?

        • +1

No, just apply a bit to the paper towel/cloth then rub onto glass. If you have a spare spray bottle you can transfer it, works better for me. You can also buy Rain-X in a spray bottle, although it'll be more expensive than this special.

Supercheap must be getting hammered as I couldn't order online when I was logged in. Rang the help line and they said to use checkout as a guest as they have issues when there are a lot of orders.

    • same issue. Guest checkout fixed it.

    • I cant checkout either, after logging into paypal it throws up an error…Cant checkout as a guest because I want to use Loyalty credit…

Another issue with the site, I haven't been able to look at order history for a few months now…

Oh well, I'll try again later…

  • Works well on the boat offshore, spray and waves sheet off the screen far better.

    Thanks. Ordered 2.

  • fantastic product - once you'll experience this you'll be a lifelong customer. Really handy

This is essentially wax for those who want to understand how it works.

It needs to be applied as a thin layer to the entire windshield.

You will potentially encounter visibility issues in certain conditions, as your window is now covered in a thin layer of wax.

    • What kind of conditions have visibility issues?

      • cold early morning haze when a thin skin of moisutre build up on your car, and on such humid morning it leave flare and haze under street light

  • Does anyone know if this stuff works well on helmet visors by any chance?

  • Autobarn is terrible.
I tried price matching at Autobarn but they refused to honour their price match policy, and even tried lying to me.

  • +1

Still cant place an order online, grrrrr

Edit: got there in the end, emptied cart, deleted all supercheap and sca cookies, restarted browser.. then checkout worked.

  • Apparently, drinking this has a diuretic-like effect.
