    • Switch + Octopath Traveler. I'm 40 hours in. Amazing and beautiful game

      • Agreed. That game is brilliant. Best Nintendo JRPG for a long time maybe two decades.

All the good JRPGs have been on Sony in recent years. This title was needed to bring that back to Nintendo

      • thanks :)

    • +8

      None. Enjoy your travel.

      • +1

Agreed. Seriously, leave the games at home. Enjoy the travels.

        • Ok :)

      • That's a pretty patronising response.

Flights, waiting at the airport, long bus rides…there are many occasions whilst travelling where one might have time to play a game while still enjoying their travel.

The two things are not mutually exclusive.

        • I understand there can be waits. I look at it as a potential distraction for the rest of the trip. If it’s not there at all, you’ll always find something else to do and enjoy a different experience.

I’ve played plenty of games in my life, just wouldn’t do it while travelling.

          • @jwh: Cool, that’s totally fine for you. Absolutely! And for many people, I’m sure that’s absolutely true too!

But it’s patronising to tell people to leave the games at home in order to enjoy their travels. What you are implying is that they aren’t enjoying their travels - that everyone else will see it as a potential distraction just like you do. Which is just not true at all.

I have taken my Switch/3DS on holidays multiple times - and I guarantee you it was never a potential distraction. I soak up the culture of places I visit and enjoy my travels just fine, thanks! (More than most, I’d say - I have super FOMO!!!)

For me, like many people, the Switch is purely for filling in waiting time - time that would otherwise be filled with checking Facebook, etc. Or sleeping. NOT as a distraction from enjoying and taking in the culture of places i’m visiting - I’m WAY too busy trying to do all the things, and see all the things, and eat all the things, or just sitting and soaking in the vibe! (My favourite part of travelling is sitting on the side of the road and watching the world go by!) There is always way too many things I want to see or do or eat, so I would never even think of playing games when those things are there to be done! Only ever in wasted downtime, eg flights and airports (and don’t worry: if there are decent cultural experiences to be had within the airport, I certainly will be partaking in those first!! Even outside the airport - not sure how many people would duck out for a bowl of noodles on a 3hr stopover! But I have!!!)

So when someone asks whether they should take their Switch or 3DS, it’s patronising to presume that they would be better off taking neither. You do you! Totally! But don’t presume to tell people how they should enjoy their travels!

Tl;dr - you may think it’s a clever “life lesson” on how to truly enjoy life, but really it’s just an unhelpful and patronising response.

            • +1

@caprimulgus: All good mate, I’m probably just not into games enough these days for me to even consider it.

              • @jwh: No worries, all good! Sorry, just me being pedantic! :)

      • Yea. Enjoy the flights and long transits by playing with yourself instead

    • you're probably less likely to be mugged carrying a 2DS XL. If you take the switch, say goodbye to the Switch!

      • Well, I was just in Vietnam for a month, and I took my Switch with me (two actually!). As long as you take appropriate precautions, it’s fine.

But yes, if you are concerned about it being stolen by pickpockets or bag snatchers, then the 3DS would be a much lower target for theft! (Not many people would bother stealing a 3DS!)

      • Thanks.

  • How do you check how many units are left for purchase? I can only see the percentage that has been claimed.

    • +2

      You don't

      • +1

You can see when only few left

  • -7

anyone want to buy a pokeball edition for $170 bargain

      • Here they come…

        Ooops posted a gumtree link……yep the $170 one.+

  • Hesitated to buy the Pokémon 2D XL, now I'm regretting it.

Been using Amazon more lately. eBay needs to catch up

    • +6

Same. My default now for almost everything. Amazon Prime for the win as well!

    • +7

You mean you don't like 10% off jacked up prices with $120 minimum spend? Get outta here.

      • +4

yeah not sure ill renew ebay subprime

        • Ebay need to up their game more than just using Cashrewards to promote their discounts

          • +3

@easternculture: No more cashrewards with ebay:

            Important Notice - eBay Australia
Commencing 9 Dec 2018, eBay Australia has paused all activity with Australian Cashback partners.

What does this mean to our valued members? There will be no Cashback on any eBay Australia purchases from 9 Dec 2018 until further notice.

We acknowledge that whilst eBay's decision is untimely and unfortunate, we remain hopeful that it's only temporary.

We'd like to thank you for your ongoing support and apologise for any inconvenience this change by eBay Australia may cause.

            • The Team at CASHREWARDS -
    • +2

Amazon return is way easier and customer support is great.

      • Yeah eBay is only good if you have plus for returns else it's crap.

I won't renew plus. I don't get steaming like prime from Amazon

        • What are you steaming? Pork buns I hope.

  • +2

And I thought getting a preowned, refurb New 3DS XL from EBGames a few weeks ago at $133.40 was a good deal. lol

    • +7

      press F to pay respects

    • A "good deal" from EB Games, that's a good joke

  • +4

Amazing price, don't need one, but all you guys making me feel like I should have got it.

FOMO - one of the stages of OzBargain anxiety.

    • same here… especially the claim rate…

    • I regretted not getting the 2ds, did not miss this chance

  • Right, so just purchased a 3DS XL for my 5yo, seeing his big brother is getting an iPad that his school requires him to have next year!

What's the best game to purchase now that will suit someone of that age? He's a Mario fan if that helps.

    • +4

      Super Mario 3D Land
      Mario Kart 7
      New Super Mario Bros. 2
      Paper Mario: Sticker Star

      • +2

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

    • +1

      Super Mario Maker

    • +1

There are also some nice SNES classics on the eshop. Donkey Kong Country is a great game. Super Mario World. Original Mario Kart.

    • +1

I'd suggest reading up on using a 3ds at that age for kids, they say it has potential damage.

Turn the 3d effect off in the interim.

    • Picross 3D Round 2!

  • Don't know what to do with it but bought one :/

    • +2

      Play games with it lol

  • +4

There will be a surge of download count for "Steel Diver: Sub Wars"

  • Is it worth doing a jailbreak thing on this? Any fellow OZB'ers have a handy guide to link/PM? Cheers.

    • update 2ds to firmware 11.9.0-42!
format sdcard fat 32 (up to 32gb is supported with sdhc)
      setup nintendo id
from nintendo shop download steel driver sub wars old version
Turn off Spot Pass automatic software download under Internet Settings as well as sending of system info
Under Friend List app > Setup- turn off Show Friends What You're Playing.
Get your own Friend Code associated with nintendo id written down.
and then start following the FrogminerGuide

      • yeah I watched a recent (October? 2018) youtube video on frogminer and hacking the 3DS - a lot of steps but once it's done, then it's fun, fun, fun! :) )

  • Nice - kids are now old enough to make use of these….Got 2 of them

  • +1

Still holding out for $99 SNES themed 3DS

    • +1

Target had them for $99 but hard to find stock

      • Yeah I know, hoping to see them crop up for that price again!

  • Can anyone provide me with a screenshot of the $79 on Amazons website please?

    • +2

Good luck price matching out of stock items

  • Fomo made me get one even though i had not intentions of buying one before

  • -4

Thanks for the deal bought one. What do we do with these? What kind of games are available?

    • +3

It's a hand-held console used to play games. Have you by chance heard of Google? Revolutionary website. Allows you to search for answers to your very questions. Good luck!

  • anyone regretting your pokemon purchase? dont cancel yet. Contact me!

  • +9

So I bought a PS4 pro on Black Friday along with a Switch for the kids (for Christmas) and now a 2DS XL plus a 3DS XL… my wife only just found out about the PS4 & the Switch but is gonna hit the roof when she sees these arrive in the mail…

    • +5

      get a parcel locker

      • +1

Second this. Parcel locker near work. Hide yo shit when you go home. When wife sees you using it, just say you bought it ages ago and just never really used it.

      • +2

or smuggle it home like i do, then when she sees the new 3DS u just "oh honey it's the old 2DS". she probably wont know the diff.

If all else fails….get a different wife?! ;)

        • I had to tell her it was the slim ps4 with 500gb on super dooper special o_O

    • Just explain - nay - TELL her you are the man of the house and have made this decision.

Then let me know how it goes as I have the same problem ;D

      • Hahahahahaha, surely there must a section in OZB for husbands/partners like us :(

  • possible to download free and play any 3dxl game on Hacked 3DXL?

    • yes

  • Are there any must have accessories?

    • Hori TPU protectors in black for the New 3DS XL are quite nice.

  • Thank you picked up a blue one!

  • Blue also 100% claimed now. Picked one up just in time. Cheers OP!

  • (profanity) me spent so much time justifying this purchase only to have it all claimed

    • +12

Ahh you forgot the simple rule of: buy first, think later

      • especially with Amazon - if you change your mind, return the purchase.

  • What are Amazon's return policy?

Seems like I can't cancel my order.. bought it without thinking but I already has a New 3ds that I'm content with and a bigger screen doesn't justify having another one

    • -1

I would try selling it on ebay for a profit.

    • +5

      buy first think later

      • haha @ramona nailed it!

    • Your better off selling than returning at this point.

    • You have the opposite problem to everyone else haha - think first, buy later :P

    • easy or make profit

  • im surprised black was more popular than metallic blue

    • Black always….

    • +6

you will find that the blue shows much less fingerprints and dirt than the black XL. Something about the finish of the blue XL just generally looks a lot cleaner than the black
