Who actually pays these kinds of prices on products from individuals for such a paltry discount? I'd rather pay the $23 more and not have to arrange meetings with people, have warranty etc. I don't get it.

      • I assume they list it at that price and accept less?

        • I'm not sure about that. Often these sellers, in my experience, seem to be the same ones who complain about a 'lowball' offer, rather than seeing it as my opening shot of the haggling game (as I saw their outrageous pricing).

Thanks OP. Mine arrived this morning. Impressed with Amazon delivering it within 20 hours.

    • Damn that was quick im with prime and delivery estimate was monday i paid and extra $9 to get it delivered today …. which of course with my luck means i will get it monday ……………. my tracking says it's getting delivered today unfortunately they used aussie post and at 5.45pm still hasnt arrived , bollocks

      • In the same boat, still says it will be delivered today.

EDIT: Just found two boxes dumped outside my front door. Yay I guess?

        • Cool so was it the 3Ds ?

          • +1

@Twodogs: Yup and the delivery sticker had 'leave in a safe place' on it… not that they ever asked me about that.

            • @stinkychicken: Mine arrived this morning amazon kindly refunded the postage for priority delivery +1 for amazon, just glad its here.
Just heads'up i paid $3 odd for it to be gift wrapped and very happy how it looks.

    • My experience is the opposite. 31 hours and they haven't even shipped it yet.

      • 55 hours and still not shipped.

Shipping date now completely removed from order tracking page and replaced with "Shipping Soon"

        • I'm in the same boat. Really hoping it ships on Monday.

        • still waiting also

          • @gladbear: Still also waiting, hope they send soon.

            • @rhinda: I hit them up on live chat and they upgraded my delivery to priority and now says it will arrive by tomorrow at 8. We will see.

    • Mine telling us what Firmware it is on?

  • -7

My 2DS is due on Monday. Will probably sell with the Christmas rush. Just don't think I will use. Son has New 3DS.

    • Is 3ds xl newer than 2ds xl?

      • No. 2DS is latest model but lower screen specs and cheaper to manufacture. New 3DS XL screens aren't ideal anyway, a bit drab colour wise for TN versions, update refresh rates a bit slow for fast update games like Mario Kart on IPS versions.

  • +2

Belated thanks, OP - I manged to score one the other day when in the sticks with hardly any reception and came back to it waiting in the mailbox an hour ago.

Will have to score a charger tomorrow.

    • Where else to buy charger from>? besides the previ comments :) i mean a solid good one?

      • +1

Besides the $5 one from Target (mentioned previously), I can't help you out with a good solid one - my plan is to borrow my gf's spare charging cable while I wait for 2x $1 cables from eBay.

  • 2ds xl shipped arriving monday

  • Just received today.
Charging it up to update to firmware 11.9

  • there are already resellers on gumtree

    • If I were in the market for one I would find it extremely suss that so many people are suddenly selling the same model brand new. Kind of a giveaway that you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

  • asking for a friend - anyone work out how to get 'decrypted' 3ds titles generated for Citra to convert back to CIA using godmode9?

  • -3

Hey guys, after having, do we have free game to play? Which kind of games please? mine is 11.9

      • -2

I'm been reading alot of threat about hacking 3ds but no one ever confirm or point to the source of what game can be freely downloaded after hacking.

        • +2

          Because it's illegal?

          • @em: because hack/exploit does not equal to playing "torrent" games. The hack itself is just a way to say "no system is perfect" but no way it would encourage people to download games.

            • @sywater: Illegally downloading games that need to be purchased, is illegal.

I didn't say anything about hacking the 3DS itself as I understand the difference, unlike the person I was replying to.

  • +1

A nice surprise.. consoles were due to be delivered tomorrow but sitting on my doorstep this afternoon.. charging them (yes, I ordered extra chargers) in prep to hack.

EDIT: 2DS firmware 11.5, 3DS firmware 11.3 - now for lots of reading.

  • The black one just arrived at my door (yeehah), but the blue one hasn't even shipped yet.

If the firmware is 11.3 I'll be doing the "Homebrew Launcher (Soundhax)" method, after which the process involves updating to 11.9. Easy enough process just using readily available files and the supplied 4gb sd card. I haven't tried the frogminer method before so I can't really compare.

    • +2

I went through frogminer and boot9strap over the weekend after updating to latest 11.9 from 11.3. It took a couple of hours but very glad to have be able to use 3DSCIA files.

I understand a lot of people don't agree with it, but I honestly wouldn't have bought a 3DS if it wasn't possible.

  • Didn't take long for these to show up in Facebook Marketplace at $160.

    • I'm amazed at the number of people advertising the pokeball 2DS at $180-200. I wonder how many will actually get that much.

      • RRP is $249 I believe. It's a real bargain at $99 from Amazon with a warranty. At $200 from some stranger, I think it'd only appeal to desperate money strapped kids and parents.

  • Received today. Amazing service

  • So… use the Soundhax method on 11.3 or update to 11.9 and use frogminer?

    • +1

Soundhax is easier from what i've been reading. You'll end up updating to 11.9 through the process anyway. Mine hasn't even shipped yet. Hopefully I'm also on 11.3.

      • When does it update to 11.9 in the process?
        Thanks!

        • When everything else is done.

  • +10

Just opened the black one - also 11.3.

I used soundhax and virtually finished the whole process in a 1 hour lunch break. (But it's my second one so I had a lot of the stuff already prepared).

    Some tips:
    1) Rather than unscrewing the back to get the sd card out, the 3DS has it's own windows network sharing feature (sytem>sd card management) - but windows 10 doesn't play well with it unless you go to "Turn features on and off" down to "SMB 1.0" and enable the options then reboot. Then it worked like a charm transferring stuff back and forth.

edit: you may want to upgrade sd card eventually, but the whole process can initially be done with the 4gb included. A copy and paste will sort you out later when upgrading.

    2) When downloading the soundhax stuff, you get an option to choose "5.X-11.2". This works fine even though the firmware was 11.3. I was nervous about it, but took the risk for your benefit.

    • Did the exact same thing with my 11.3 firmware Black. The ease of use with SMB is recommended but it does take a longer time transferring over plugging the microSD into a reader on your PC.

In the end it is the CIA files being installed using FBI that takes the longest time. I heard the FreeStore is not really a thing anymore and CIA's are the way to go?

      • What region did you use for Soundhax? Are we EUR?

        • +1

We are europe from what I have read from homebrew sites, and if you are 11.3 as ajm07 mentioned don't be alarmed with using Soundhax version 11.2 it still works for our 11.3 3DS XL.

        • +1

Sorry I didn't reply sooner looks like you got your answer, i.e. EUR, NEW 3DS, 5.X - 11.2.

          • @ajm07: Cheers! What version do you select for the download otherapp payload - homebrew launcher?

    • Better to do 11.3 with soundhax or update to 11.9 and use frogminer?

  • +2

fyi - these new 2ds-xl / 3ds-xl devices take a microSD card, rather than the old larger SD card that the original 2DS leveraged.

  • +1

Hey there, anyone who bought the blue 3DS get theirs shipped yet? Mine still says shipping soon, after it changing from saying it would ship Monday 17th (yday).

    • Mine went from 'we'll ship on 14th' to 'we'll ship it soon'.

      Still waiting…

      • Got mine yesterday. Firmware 11.3 - Soundhax :)

      • +1

Finally they've sent it out and it's arriving tmrw, hopefully yours has too!

        • Sadly…not yet.

Care to share what time your order was? Mine was 13:11pm.

Don't worry I'm not obsessing. I can quit pressing refresh any time I want to.

  • So if I dont bother opening my 2DS now, am I at risk of missing a CFW? I know 11.9 is hackable. If they release a secure 11.10, can I still upgrade to 11.9?

    • I doubt it. Normally it updates to the latest

    • No, there's only one button for system update and it updates the system to latest version.

      • Ok thanks perhaps I'll open and update and put it back

    • You can update to lower fw if you have cart with the fw included. Doubt any would have 11.9 but.

  • Does the DS auto update firmware? Or the user will need to initiate it?

    • Auto downloads (unless you block it with DNS), nags for you to install it.

      • Thanks. But it won’t auto install will it?

  • +1

just got my 3ds xl too, anyone in melbourne want a black 3ds xl for $99 let me know, maybe it's easier to sell this then return it, condition is that you need to pick it up from knox area

    • What don’t you want it now?

      • +2

buyers remorse, ozbargain syndrome, buy now and worry later

  • -7

Thanks my 11 units arrived. Will resell most and keep a few hopefully funded by the others

    • +2

      User name checks out.

  • +2

Had it for a few days now. Not a bad little device.

I'm impressed at how well the 3d effect and face tracking works. It gives a great perspective to mario kart. I'm not sure why the 3D mode copped so much hate.
Bigger issues with the device are the shocking resolution and texture quality (somewhere between a ps1 and ps2) and the strange c-stick 'nub' instead of a proper dual analogue. On the whole I'd have to say that the graphics look slightly worse than playing Infinity Blade on my 2009 iPhone 3GS.

Still lots of good titles and at least the unit is pocketable (unlike the Switch). At the end of the day we buy these units for the games library, and there's certainly no shortage here.

    • +2

I wouldn't say the 3D copped hate, but the novelty just wore off after the first few days of use. People perma switched off 3d because that face tracking wasn't available on the older models, giving it a tiny, uncomfortable sweet spot which wasn't practical for longer sessions, and it slowed down framerates, almost to a halt in games like pokemon x and y.
The new 3ds is a lot better in terms of design and 3d implementation, you're just lucky that was your first experience with the 3ds

      • +1

Yup the new 3DS face tracking is very good - it locks on and it doesn't shake off.

The original 3DS you had to sit and stay still in a sweet spot.

      • wouldn't say the 3D copped hate

It did from me. 3D was the worse fad of the 2000s. Thanks Avatar.

        2DS ftw.

  • New to Nintendo DS. How can you install games on the micro sd card? Downloaded the ROM and transferred the nds file to the card but cannot see it in the menu anywhere.

    • ….nds are DS, not 3DS.

Also, you don't just put them on the card. You need to install the CIA.

      • Oh OK. I thought they were all backward compatible. Could you please confirm the file extension for the 3DS. Also eleborate on the CIA. Thanks heaps

        • .CIA is the file extension for the 3DS. Have you installed CFW? You won't be able to play backups without it.

          • -2

@Not a Toomah: Nope. I thought it was as easy as droppimg a nds file and the game recognising it as a playable file. Guess I need to learn from scratch. What is CFW?

            • @Dealayed: This will be a long conversation….best to check the wiki that has been linked many times.

            • +1

              @Dealayed:

I thought it was as easy as droppimg a nds file and the game recognising it as a playable file.

Why would Nintendo make it that easy to pirate games??

            • @Dealayed: Thanks guys for helping. Will check wiki and learn about this system.

Is there still issues with the n3DS XL shipping with TN panels instead of IPS?

    • How do you determine TN vs IPS?

      • From what I've read, viewing angle and brightness levels. The blue version was mostly TN, black version had more chance of IPS.

    • I'm almost certain I have TN in mine, as there is some white out when viewing from the sides.

It's still more than fine, we are talking about sub SD graphics after all.

      • Most are TN. Just tilt to check. Especially when you change the vertical position. You can also run 3dsident to check your panel type.
I just checked and got TN/TN on my black n3ds xl. It sucks but the screens are all pretty terrible so it doesn't make a big difference. You only use a gameboy in a straight on position anyway. What's more annoying is the lottery - such inconsistency. You don't know what you're gonna get!

I'm actually surprised that Nintendo would be seen using TN screens. Normally they are only associated with cheap pc laptops and yumcha chinadroid phones.

    • Thanks Richard i just grabbed one , still weird that they dont have any charging adapter or at least a cable to try the unit out …..and its written on the box but so small and really hard to see that online .

  • Are all 2DS XL's TN?

  • I wonder if we will see a repeat of this deal on Boxing Day.

  • +1

For any subscribers to this thread who missed out, another lightning deal available now.

  • Both 3DS's are back for Boxing Day. Missed out last time.

  • bookmarked this thread for the mod info on page 6. thanks guys!
