Sony MDR-1000X (Gen 1) Noise Cancelling Headphones - Headband Cracked

After two years the headband on my Sony MDR-1000X's snapped, one ear piece has fulled broken off from the headband & the other side has cracked but not all the way through.

Purchased from JB Hi-Fi Online who've refused to help & so has Sony Australia, deeming it a wear & tear issue.

I paid almost $500 & you'd expect the headphones to last longer than they have so I've filed a complaint with the ACCC.

Just wanted to see how many other people have had the same problem.

Thanks.

    • I bought them when they first came out so I wasn't aware it was a common issue. Sony has never officially adressed the issue in Australia either. If I get enough people we might be able to do something about it.

    Last resort:

If you have a 3d Printer or if you have a store that can do 3d prints for you, you can create a replacement part yourself.

If you need a list of locations where you can find and 'rent' a 3d printer, Choice has an article on it. They are mostly libraries and maker spaces.

  • So has this problem been addressed in later versions? Was thinking about getting the latest xm3 at some point?

    • AFAIK it was the first model that was affected.

  • wouldn't you be raising this issue with your state's Fair Trading rather than the ACCC?

    • I've contacted Fair Trading, thanks for the tip.

  • I just raised a case about this with Sony and as expected, they're palming it off as "User Damage" despite the countless claims about this online. Has anyone been able to get them to honour their so called "Warranty" ?

Call me pessimist but I'm fearing an uphill battle on my hands..
