Help! Virgin Domestic - Lost Baggage

Hi fellow bargain hunters. I posted a topic on whirlpool initially to get some advice but thought I would broaden the scope here on OzB too. I might even be lucky enough to get the attention of someone working in the industry or VA that can properly look into my case as the help I've gotten from baggage services so far has been rather lacklustre.

See the original thread here:

The TL:DR version is that VA lost my check in baggage on a domestic flight from Mel to Per. Baggage was a box containing some car interior parts and all my shopping from Melbourne. The compensation limit doesn't even come close to replacing the contents, and it's widely known they rarely ever maximise the payout claim anyway.

The box had labels all over it, and the one lady from VA Melbourne that cared enough to look deeper confirmed with me based on last scanned, the box has left Melbourne and had a cargo detail attached to it.

I've been issued a world tracer reference no with no updates or results. I even informed them they got my flight no wrong on the database but they haven't yet amend it, not sure if that'll hinder retrieval.

I also went to the contract logistics handler who may have mixed my baggage up with commercial cargo and on 3 occasions, they said they didn't find anything.

I'm now wondering if my box may have been left somewhere in Perth airport's cargo hold unnoticed, otherwise it would've been scanned in some other location by now. It's been almost 3 days since it went missing.

Im at wit's end now. I don't have enough social media exposure to trigger a movement so VA will take my case more seriously. I'm fully aware there are hundreds, if not thousands of cases such as mine everyday. So, I'm hoping any advice or help rendered to me here may give me an advantage.

Thanks in advance!

Sometimes it shows up weeks later…

    • weeks? :(

What happens if you make a claim and they give you some kinda compensation then it shows up weeks later?

      • It's yours as inconvenience compensation. Maybe you had to buy clothes to fill the gap.

        • If I made a claim, it would be 7 days in and it'll be for the loss of the box, not for inconvenience.

          • @plentifoo: You should be able to make a claim for delayed bagged, then make a claim for lost baggage at 7 days. So 2 claims.

Looks like you need to give them 7 days I locate your baggage.

Our luggage was missing for about a week before it got couriered to us. Be patient.

  • I even informed them they got my flight no wrong on the database

What does this mean? Maybe your luggage went somewhere else ;)

How long has it been missing for? Seems like only hours from this post. Give it time to show up

    • Nope, missing since new years eve.

Darn…. 3 days, but its the 'slow' time of the year, so once everyone is back on staff, it'll show up again :)

        • thanks i love the Optimism on OzB!

  • Might turn up eventually.
I had a bag once that got lost on a syd-dubai-rome flight. It turned up 5 days later and based on the stickers all over it, it ended up going to Japan and Switzerland before finally getting to Rome.

Perhaps your box just took a wrong turn at albuquerque

  • I get that this may happen for international connecting flights. But this is a direct domestic flight :(

    • Depends on the airport but it can easily be all the one baggage system.
